| News Comment | Southampton Linked With La Liga Striker at 08:27:53
I'm really not sure we are going to survive in the PL by buying this level of player. I know paying more hasn't guaranteed success but this guy seems "average". I'm also not bothered that he is flexible and can play in other positions. I'd rather get a selfish striker who just has one job. Because if you don't score goals in the PL you are dead. |

The current problem is we only have one good half. If we have a good first half we mysteriously drop off in the second and vice verca. It would be good to see a front foot performance for 90 minutes. |

I'd play our best players regardless. We're paying their wages, why shouldn't we use them while we can. I'd also start Che up front. We will have the ball a lot, they'll be deep so AA will not have the space to run in behind. Che Adams is better back to goal and his finishing is not great but neither is Armstrongs. Che just seems to fit our style better right now. |

Honestly think that the Championship is the main reason. Fans are happy that we "might" not just be cannon fodder. the prices are more reasonable and we might actually see some competitive football. |

Hmm hardly the most toxic situation ever. We all remember worse. Also, is NJ going to play our 'best' 11 in a 442? It didn't work for Ralph, why would he just pick the same team and formation? If we do that might as we'll have kept Ralph. |
| News Comment | Should Southampton Recall Nathan Tella In January at 11:47:17
I don't understand fans. He wasn't good enough to get in the side. He goes elsewhere at a lower level and does pretty well. That tells me that is his level. do we think he's suddenly become a PL player because he's scored a few goals for Burnley? What next? You want Rodriguez back ? |
| News Comment | Southampton At Liverpool The Verdict at 12:21:05
We are misfiring everywhere at the moment. Clearly we can't finish. If we could then Ralph wouldn't have been sacked and we would be comfortably mid table. But also we can't defend. We are way too easy to score against and often it comes from the flanks. That doesn't mean it's the wing backs necessarily. There is a lack of support from midfield. I don't mind Stuart Armstrong but on the second goal he really isn't fussed about busting a gut to close people down and that is symptomatic of us as a team defensively. Newcastle are flying high, not because they score goals but because they don't let any in. We defend like the keystone cops and often have 4 or 5 chances to clear which we make a complete comedy out of. Fruststrating because we have the players but we are completely disorganised. Hopefully Jones can do this because Ralph was here for years and could never organise the defence. |

Funny how teams spend all pre season working on things, but then they chuck in new signings in the first week. You'd hope they get time to bed in. The basis of the team that played chelsea will do fine. |
| News Comment | Saints Make Offer For Swedish International Midfielder at 15:48:38
Well on the surface not particularly exciting although if he's another Anders Svensson then let's have him. Does it make you a fixture in a side if you spent 31 of 36 league games on the bench ? |
| News Comment | New Era Begins At Southampton Football Club at 13:21:18
I wish I had enough time and money to simply write off whole swathes of the season as "it doesn't matter now". These games are expensive and as we were "safe" we could just accept the utter dross on offer. I guess there are two types of fan. Those that will follow the club regardless. It is in their blood and they enjoy any good times more as they are there in the bad. somehow travelling miles in the rain to watch us capitulate is a badge of honour. Then there are fans who don't expect to win the league but at least want to see some sort of entertainment for the amount of money they spend. Is this unreasonable? This season we crawled over the line with defeat after defeat. It's not good enough to say that it's done now and we should be glad the season is over. Those games cost a fortune and we have the right to ask for more than we got. |
| News Comment | Big Night In Premier League Relegation Battle at 11:49:33
Indeed Nick is a proper fan no doubt. It is admirable. I don't think Saints fans are going to feel "silly" bout worrying about tonight's results. Leeds have broadly been shite this season with a famously leaky defence. If Leeds win their game in hand tonight, they are three points behind us (yes and goal difference). You wouldn't bet on us getting any more points - so at best that is uncomfortably close. Burnley would be the same and Everton, who many picked to go down, would actually go above us if they win their games in hand. OK all of the above is unlikely but Im just saying that it's a good job our plummet didn't start earlier cos we would be in big trouble. Certainly we are right to be alarmed at our position. |
