The really best bit about the UK Election
at 09:22 5 Jul 2024

I watched with our cat until a few hours ago, and leaving the result out of it, I was immensely proud of the UK!

Just look at how the transition of power took place. Seemless, without rancor or violence. The speaches of Mourdant and Buckland were exceptional given their results, thought Hunt was interesting too; albeit a case of: why weren't you doing this in power?

And plenty of departing Tories congratulated and wished their victors the best.

Compare that with the US in 2020, and what might happen in France next week and the US soon. As Mrs PH just said to me: Last night said a lot about the UK, a lot other countries should note and admire.

Exhausted now, Girona gone for a burton, as I'll be taking naps all day.

However, with great power comes great responsibility for Labour. They certainly made the right noises on the night - so fingers crossed they not only do a good job, but also attract back lost voters to Farage. And let's be honest: Reform split the Tories, and handed Labour the win but now the big issue for the Tories is what party do they want to be? Lurch to the right to suck up to Farage or repel him and learn the lesson of last night about being out of touch.

We'll get an idea when we see who they elect to replace Sunak.

QPR preseason training/games in Girona

Do we have any info on when the friendlies are going to be played?

I know the offish says they're behind closed doors, but any ITK stuff/thoughts as to whether 'leeway' will be shown?

Short drive there/back, so if we can't jib-in, any suggestions for what to do in Girona instead?

Panenka...just gets better!
at 06:04 28 Jun 2024

Article on the BBC about that penalty that's worth a read.

Bit I found amazing was that in the event of the final ending in a draw, it was scheduled to go to a replay, however, a few days before the final, the Germans approached the Czechs and asked if they'd agree to penalties instead.

Thinking they'd fair better in a sudden death shoot out as opposed to a second match, they agreed, and the rest is history.

The reason being: several German players had holidays booked for immediately after the tournament! A classic case of the Germans having their towels out on the loungers before 'czeching' the weather!!

Weired Things Seen In A Stadium
at 09:29 10 Jun 2024

I went to the baseball at Wham! yesterday and of all in-stadia eating I've seen around the world (and I include the US in this), I've never seen a hot dog as big as was being devoured by many. I'd say at least 24 inches/60 cms in length, smothered in God knows what, it looked awful. I can only imagine how awkward it would be to eat and for those sat around a person doing so.

However, it was what happened during a break that was car crash viewing: they got two fat-fooks out to have an eating competition. Looked like two blokes sucking off a teletubby.

Anyone else witnessed such horrors?

Just when you think football can't get anymore hollow, an advert comes along and you realise, the Rubicon had yet to be crossed.

Just seen an ad for Hellman's mayo, and they're the effing BBQ partner of the Euros. Seriously, WTF?!!

To The Poster That Suggested A Bob Marley Anthem
at 08:09 8 May 2024

On one of the post-Leeds threads, one of our breatheren suggested that BM&TW classic, 'Three Little Birds' should be our anthem.

I saw something last night on Youtube of the players doing a lap of honour, and when 3LB came on, I thought, whomever that poster was, then s/he/they are definitely on to something!!

Edit - spooky, but I'm currently at Charring Cross Hospital, and guess what's playing on the radio?

Ending thoughts...
at 14:42 6 May 2024

Well as we all fall over ourselves to convey the emotion of the last 10 months, I'm struggling to think of one that has been so absorbing, demanding, and draining in pursuit of a Top 18 finish. And yet, it seems to be a season where despite the absence of silver, I feel as if I/we actually won something!

As disastrous as it often looked, it's up there with the Olly 03/04 and Warnock 10/11 seasons for me, and of all our 'survival' seasons, it's been hands down the best. Is it too early to say: but are we seeing the greenshoots of recovery and the death roll of Fernandes' influence?

Personally, a hell of a season too. Firstly, I believe it was DanielPaddox who wrote that this was the 50th anniversary of his first game. Ironically, 1 January 2024 was the same for me. And yet, the Rfosi who posted that 'anger' is in the Rangers name probably conveyed my 'feelings' prior to the arrival of Miracle Marti.

I'd given up on them at least twice, and on one trip back to London, I didn't bother to go. I can't say anymore on what has been said about Marti and how he and his team, the players and the club rose as a man to get out of the self-made mire of 12 years of incompetence that preceded it. I don't think I was more proud of them in the previous 50 years of following.

We lost Stan. We lost Terry. But I lost my mother and sadly, with her funeral approaching and the last visit to see her on the day of the Leeds game, I declined to go to that match. I followed from home, and as I relayed to Mrs. PH the goals and thus the outcome, I felt that spirit that no matter what you do, where you are, you are there.

Could not have been more delighted for the club but most of all, and as has been said on here, the support this year has been exceptional.

I do not think we can underestimate the role each has played when they've attended. I came back from the Rotherham and Preston games hoarse from cheering, not something I've done since I was a pup. I think as a fanbase, it's been the best I have known it and for that, each one of us deserves a pat on the back whether we attended a few or all the games.

Really looking forward to the summer now. Not the Euros, bollix to that, but I am looking forward to the Olympics which Mrs. PH and I will be at for the first week if any Rfosi are in town for un verre, and resumption of a new season hopefully under Marti, and Inshallah, after Pep realises life will be so much Eze with Eberichi.

Well done again boys and girls. Thank you!...this club eh?

I've begun clearing my mum's house, starting with stuff I'd left here over the years.

I'm sure if you've had to do such a thing, it's an emotional roller coaster ride through your life. Cards from my first birthday; pictures; reports my mum kept. I've stumbled upon ticket stubbs and programmes.

I'm currently looking at a stub, and I don't recall going to the game. 20 April 1986...mustn't have been that important of a game. That said, I seem to have been at Anfield the month prior!

Interested to see if there is a market for this stuff or do I bring it home and frame them.

My Mum
at 07:53 12 Apr 2024

My mother passed away unexpectedly last Sunday. Realising my worst fear, that I'd not get back in time from wherever I was in the world to be with her at the end.

Over the last few days, I've realised how integral she was to my football life. As a small boy who had part of his leg amputated at 3, she encouraged me to go out and play football as a child. I always consider this was the cornerstone that my confidence to go out into the world was built on and also how I took on my disability. Equally, how I then expected other people with disabilities that I've worked for down the years to be treated as well: encouraged and self-confident.

But her erudite, no nonsense assessments on all things QPR down the years, are what I'll also miss. 'If you'd all support the lad, he'd do better!', followed by her gloating when the lad, Tony Sealey, finished top scorer the next season! Wherever I'd ring from on the Planet, she'd cut to the chase, and I'll sum it us thus: 'What kind of a bollix is Harry Redknapp?'

On 3 April 1982, she gathered all the mums, wives from around here to listen to the FA Cup semi final, and as we all trooped home, I just remember our house was buzzing when we got home.

Several years later, she'd been very ill, I flew back from Manila for a week, and stayed 18 months and became her carer. Her health yo-yo'd, and to go to Wembley in 2014, required a number of supports to be put in place to facilitate this. I was with my chums, but was exhausted by about 8pm and came home, but my mum had refused to go to bed until I was back and we had a drink to celebrate.

After my dad died, my regular trips back to London were to see mum, and I'd try get a few games in too. But now she's gone, I realise that I won't be visiting London as much and thus, my trips to QPR will sadly decrease even more. In fact, visits will be interspersed by years now as opposed to months.

It's life. We're born, we die, but what we do in-between determines if it was a good life or not. And despite all the challenges she faced, she gad a good life. The fact she'll be buried and reunited with my dad on their wedding anniversary says it all.

In the meantime, look after my team...they are worth fighting for too!

RIP Ma Planet.

Just a brief shout out of thanks to Danny Paddox for doing me a little favour on behalf of a good friend, who was a little too close to slipping off this mortal coil!

I am sure for him it was a doddle for him but nonetheless, he obliging stopped what he was doing.

Thank you Daniel.

Substitutes
at 10:01 21 Jan 2024

I was reading the story about the AC Milan side walking off the pitch following racist abuse towards their keeper. As I looked down the piece, I noticed that they had 12 subs on the bench. Itself dwarfed by Udinese's 14.

Looking at the sides involved in ours and Brentford's games yesterday, all four teams had only nine subs. Same in Dortmund's game in Germany.

How are Italian sides allowed to name so many subs?
