All of these guys + Carvalho from recent memory, left their 'smaller' club far too early. For every Sterling & Elliot it works out for, there are many others that should have stayed put little longer (in hindsight). Or maybe they were just overhyped and were never going to make it in the first place.. [Post edited 2 Jul 14:49]

A random thought, but would the squad be taking a commercial flight or chartering their own jet for trips like this... hard to imagine bumping into them in the security queue at Gatwick Airport, but then again how else would they do it? We're probably taking around 20-30 players & staff with kit etc. To get that may seats all sitting together on a commercial passenger jet peak summer you'd have to book that last Christmas. |

Larkeche does seem like an aggressive forward thinking LB of the little we've seen of him, direct goal involvements vs Stoke (H) and Preston (A) off the top of my head. Marti only really used him in that capacity when looking to inject some energy. Defending wise he clearly prefers Fox for that backs to wall job. With a bench of +7 subs a useful option to have. From what he has shown in English football thus far, no chance a prem team is coming in for that. |

Also, listening to Rooney my god his delivery of a message is shocking.. It may just be the live cameras but i doubt it after all these yrs. Plymouth are in for a treat next season. |

I always get the impression Shearer gets his player research given to him on a post-it note 5 mins before going live. Just sounds like he doesn't really believe what he's saying when talking about a player or team from aboard, regurgitating what someone told him to say. I'm sure BBC could do better than that basic surface level analysis, but hey maybe that's just what they're looking for... [Post edited 25 Jun 11:36]

Also having realised watching Scotland Vs Hungary, it would have been a dead rubber but at least resulted in some drama so i get that. |

Why is 3rd place even allowed to qualify? Is it just to squeeze another game few games out or give the 'bigger teams' a second chance, really don't see the point in it. Anyone care to share the purpose of this? |

When Southgate got the job back in 2016 we'd been buried by Iceland + had that Allardyce fiasco, it was a low with minimal expectations, anything was a bonus. He took a team of Lingard, Ali, Young, Sterling, Maguire to a world cup semi, come on... people actually thought we had a god-given right to beat Croatia, they were a much better team. Favorable circumstances have seen top class players develop since then and with that expectations. The reality is we now have a group of players with much more talent (and ever growing egos), but a manager with a basic skillset and almost underdog mentality that's fast losing respect of the group. He's tried to make everyone happy but when it starts rocking has nothing to fall back on. Southgate is a championship manager at best, interesting to see where he ends up in a few years. |

I agree, between the sticks he looks tiny. But googled and he's 6ft 2, is that right? Shay Given was considered a short keeper at 6ft 1, Pickford also same height. |

Really not bothered. Its not like guys like him are following home & away with clear emotional connection and roots to the club. If anything, a casual association at best, of which i doubt he's hardly perusing with much care especially now he has a serious job with another football club (of which I'm sure he's already a 'fan' of). I agree, it seems a little rash considering we're hardly blessed in right-back cover + on the back of a successful loan (Young Player of the Year / scoring 6 goals in 17). Worth another look for a yr at least I'd have thought. But those who've seen him everyday for the last few yrs must be of the opinion that's his ceiling, or not much higher. |

How about just play a left sided midfielder (Gordon for Foden) on the left, and a central midfielder in the middle (Mainoo, Gallagaher, Wharton) for TAA. I'm pretty sure that would solve a lot of the issues we saw last night as cannot be carrying players at that level. TAA in CM would get burnt alive by a decent team, if we're playing a poor team fine but if on the backfoot against anyone half decent it wont work as evidenced last night. |

Not sure about that.. Owen would not have played at the very highest level for so many years or even made it that far had he a bad touch, it just isn't true. I agree there's levels to this, not all will have Berbatov esq control but the higher up you go unless your touch is good you'll be found out as much less margin for error, only so many times can one lose possession and have moves break down before they're binned and drop to their true level. |
| Forum Reply | Armstrong extended at 17:17 13 Jun 2024
I'd get him in early for pre-season and have size 3 footballs pinged into him with a dev squad defender crawling on his back, on repeat. That should sort his touch and hold-up play. |

Unless there is some backroom friction / broken promises we're not aware of, or Barcelona B come calling then we should all be good. The guy's just got his feet under the table, completed the high pressure target of staying up, and now has time, which he earnt, and a free hit to implement basically anything he wants (budget permitting) with the team + has the fans (and players too probably) eating out the palm of his hand. |
| Forum Reply | EDB Signs new contract at 18:00 10 Jun 2024
Really looking forward to see this guy develop, started the season playing at Hanwell Town with the dev squad and finished in front of 30,000 at Coventry. That's pretty wild 8 months. At 23, under x20 1st team appearances, he's really got to make a spot his own. As we wont be starting the season with a 9point handicap (Ainsworth), i feel there will be some leeway for these young lads to develop next season. Looking forward to it. |
