This Varane saga about signing brings back memories of “Ched Evans signed and in the bath”

Trampoline gold now. The commentary from the Brits is pis.s funny. They’ve got as much clue as me. “Shes crying tears of joy, I think”…….camera switches to the girl…who is distraught at being out of medals.

Yeah that’s definitely true. Question is why is it like this nowadays? I think it’s more a society issue. Starts with the family, lack of respect for seniors, women, teachers, police. It’s a blame someone else culture nowadays. It’s always someone elses fault for actions done or not done. People need to take responsibility for their actions and their own lives and not rely on others to help. I put it also down to social media. What can government do? Well they won’t do it but I’d love to see it banned/restricted in some form for U18s. Stop and search powers without reason and lock up anyone carrying any sort of blade. Sod peoples feelings when people are getting killed.

Unbelievable. Spending 4 years to prepare and make all the sacrifices and then you fight a man in a woman’s event.

Half way through our lad is standing with a bust wheel in his hand as riders storm past him. Gets on his bike around 40 seconds behind (having been first) and chases down field including the home favourite in front of home crowd. 24 years old, won 4 years ago and competed in Tour de France but had to withdraw due to Covid. Double Olympic champion. Talent and guts.

I think it’s more about a policeman reacting to his female Colleague / friend being punched repeatedly in the face and her nose broken. He overreacted and lost his professionalism. I don’t condone what he did but I admire the police men and women who show remarkable restraint in such situations and have phones and cameras shoved in their faces at every opportunity and then get told they’re all racist.

I would never condone the actions of the male police officer in Manchester Airport, you’ve got to show restraint…..even though that can be difficult. Why would anyone want to join our police force? Women police officers punched in the face and there is calls of racism against the police. Lack of support for our police from powers that be, including the sitting MP, is shocking.

Thanks! I’ve been trying to find something similar to the Shardlake series.

On those cj Sansom books, I think Hearstone, which is I think 2 books on from you is probably the best.

Looks like they might have a few more problems to deal with given Argentina’s racist singing….

I don’t believe that. There’s a minority of sick, deluded people out there. The majority of people are not like that and are decent people. The problem is that minority are very vocal and go on social media because of its anonymity.

You’ve always struck me as an intelligent decent chap. I don’t understand why you would give this theory any credence. We had some saying the London Bridges attacks were staged too. Whatever political persuasion you are, when something’s wrong, call it out as wrong. We’ve all got to dothat surely, otherwise there is no hope for us.

I’m not saying I agree with any of that. You don’t win a Slam if you haven’t got any fight.

I don’t think it’s racism. I think partly jealousy and partly because the impression is she’s focussed more on things off the tennis court and does seem to have a lot of injuries during matches. The other issue is her looks. She gets loads of press attention, much more than a player like her would normally do. I think she has just been badly advised since her US open win. She’s clearly talented player.

Going into a game that’s likely to be against the Dutch without a recognised fit left back is all of Southgate’s own making. He’s been about giving opportunities so surely he needed to pick someone like Mitchell in the squad. Without the balance, Foden isn’t able to perform because lack of support so attack focused down right and middle making it easier to defend against us.

You don’t think that first 30 minutes was more down to Serbia showing us too much respect and giving us too much time on the ball. We’ve looked ordinary when sides have pressed us.

Think it’s embarrassing to turn up at a major tournament and for our manager to say he’s experimenting with a guy in central midfield.

That’s very unfair on Taylor. Lineker and Waddle were at the end of their careers. They were nothing like at the level under Bobby. More importantly, Gazza was injured for 1992 euros and big Holland away qualifier. Barnes did his Achilles before 92 euros so missed that and for my mind was never the same after that.

2004 was great but we lost Rooney when 1-0 up. Like losing Bellingham at that stage.

Well I can only speak for myself. I think he has done a great job, particularly at creating a club-like mentality in the England set-up. But I also think he’s got a talented squad like none before him. Poor old Graham Taylor would love to have had a chance with half the talent he has. That said, Gareth’s done well but no harm in debating how we can improve and what he should do better. I want us to win the Euros. I don’t think TAA in midfield is going to achieve that. But then I also didn’t think Jimmy Dunne should play right back….look how they turned out. Why do we have to bring politics into it? I’m trying to get away from all of that!

Beckham and Rooney were great passers and good at free kicks. Both were terrible in central midfield for England. Trent is ok there but we have plenty of players who play central midfield regularly for their clubs. Give one of them a go.
