| News Comment | Date Set For Southampton's Carabao Cup Trip To Everton at 14:19:59
I remember my first game at Goodison; 1954 against Chelsea with my grandad, a lifelong blue! The biggest memory was the throwing of toffees into the crowd at half-time, when they were still owned by sweet-maker Barker & Dobson, thus the nickname! When the family returned home I insisted on being taken to the Dell and the lifelong stress began!!! |
| News Comment | Southampton Receive Formal Transfer Request In Writing From Player at 16:48:27
Ralph brought him in and wingers to provide him. The club immediately sacked Ralph and subsequent managers, including the current one, didn't know how to utilise his talent! Only once did I see a high cross for him to attack. 20 yards out and hit the post. Seen him play 3 times in Turkey. He'd flourished in the PL: he has a beast of a shot . Like a Peter Crouch upgrade. I feel sorry for him having been messed about by the club. Hope his next dream has a better outcome |
| News Comment | Charly Alcaraz Says He Wants To Be At Southampton at 18:08:32
As with Tall Paul, it's often the manager that doesn't know how to utilise something a bit different (Le Tiss and England?) Tall Paul scored for fun before and after arriving but was wrongly used here. I only ever saw one high cross to his head in any game, 20 yards out. OK he hit the post! He has a thunderous shot (saw him play 3 times in Turkey) Used properly he'd light up the PL (Crouch?) Carlos Alcaraz, apart from winning Wimbledon, offers something different. He needs that striker (EvertonSaint's cooment) who can feed him on the burst. Maybe Ross Stewart is the man?? |
| News Comment | Southampton Said To Have Agreed Terms With Brazilian Defender at 13:08:58
Manning and Stephens out the door. Neither are PL-level defenders. RM struggled in the Championship and, although JS had a few reasonable games at Bournemouth, he clearly isn't good enough. I'd rather see Bree as 2nd cover. He is a natural FB. So we need 1st cover for Taylor. |
| News Comment | Southampton Back For Third Attempt To Sign Defender at 14:05:20
I can't imagine Swansea selling us the club cat while the legal wrangles continue! Nick, you say Wood is young and untested at the highest level. Do you mean like THarwood-Bellis??? JanB did have some good games in the PL but Stephens was out of his depth (and usually out the team spending time out on loan) Lawrence is prime for another, hopefully more successful, loan but certainly one for the future, maybe JanB's replacement in time. We seem to have had this argument on here before - an older (wiser?) CB to steady the line. Your suggestions last time were mocked on here. But the teams those players went to stayed up; were went down!! 1-0 to Nick (and me!!) |
| News Comment | Southampton Set To Sign Out Of Contract Brentford Midfielder at 14:13:23
"good experienced signings at the peak of their powers" Two questions: why would they come to a newly promoted club; and how could we afford them under FFP regulations? We've already paid £20m for THB. There's talk of £11m to £15m for Rodon. We either sell to off-set that expenditure or go for the free/loan market. We have AL who is unlikely to be a regular starter. Saman Ghoddos is a similar type of player who would be the regular starter. One position filled for free and not crazy wages and.with PL experience. Seems sensible to me. Save money for where we most need it: PL-quality/experience striker and GK. We need a LB (Perraud would be perfect and he belongs to us already) |
| News Comment | Southampton Linked To Reunion With Armando Broja at 14:32:28
Even with us he had a great spell before fading even before injury. Done nothing over past couple of seasons. A NO from me. There are far better options at more sensible prices and wages. Definitely not a CheA upgrade. Give Ross Stewart a go. I think he could come good in the PL |
| News Comment | These Are The Six Positions That Southampton Need To Fill For Premier League Survival at 14:16:46
Sports Witness is suggesting we could make an offer to Jose Fonte!! Apart from being a crazy idea, Jose wants to spend time with his family in Portugal so that is a non-starter. (Good interview on BBC Sounds) Why do people keep mentioning ABK? Stats show he was one of the worst defenders in Europe when he was playing. Most of the time he was injured and much of the rest of the time was on the bench. No, a really bad idea getting him back. Anyone know the situation regarding Mateusz Lis? Our original purchase for goal-keeper! GB was second choice when Lis had work-permit problems. I know he is still our player, and our best GK by far, and we have held onto him all this time for a reason. |
| News Comment | Saints 23/24 Season Review - The Goalkeepers at 13:34:01
What is the situation regarding our original signing, Lis, who was sent out on loan because of work permit problems. He would have been our first choice keeper. Bazunu was brought it in as 2nd choice. He clearly has ability - regularly keeping clean sheets. Buzunu 's shot stopping is clearly suspect as shown in the official stats - in the bottom 3 of championship keepers. And that is purely shot-stopping, nothing to do with so called tippy happy. If not Lis, then we need a proper stopper. H'49's comments are very relevant |
| News Comment | Saints May Have To Cash In On Star Defender at 16:30:55
Why does ABK get mentioned? He has been dreadful and ranked one of the poorest CBs in Europe. Plus he has spent lots of time out with his dodgy shoulder as he was with us. Get whatever we can for him, along with JS, and bring in an experienced PL CB or another THB! |
| News Comment | Southampton Considering Move For Wembley Play Off Opponent at 22:32:37
It looks that, maybe, the Championship is his level? As for ABK, his time abroad has been dire. He played a few games but was soon dropped to the bench. He has alternated between injury and poor displays, certainly not the reliable CB we will need in the PL. |
| News Comment | Saints Can Now Start Planning Their Transfer Strategy For The Premier League at 10:51:00
We have a top grade keeper in Lis to come back - if he can now get a work permit. ABK has had an horrific time. Just doesn't look the part. Tall Paul is a big yes to me: if he wants to come back. Seems he and his family are settled in Turkey. Charly? Not been too successful at Juve but the incoming manager likes him and it is a big club. Adama, Stewart, Tall Paul and Ings? Not a bad strike force. Wee Man, Sulemana, Brooks (?) out wide. Downes (a big question mark) Smallbone, Aribo, Charly, Charles, Lallana, etc., etc. in midfield. We need a third CB to replace Stephens, a LB till Larius comes good (Perraud?) a RB as back-up to KWP. Simples!!! |
