Yes, we were aware of it for a good while before the album came out as we used to listen the the Peel show. He played 4 tracks that night.
Also regarding that track, New Order did one of the coolest things I have ever seen at a gig. Playing that track at the end of the Futurama festival they one by one walked off the stage leaving it playing off the tape machine for a good few minutes. Just that futuristic track going on. No goodbyes, no encores, that's your lot. We had seen them enough times to know they never did encores but a lot of people were just looking at each other waiting expectantly. Such a modern track, pre-dating House music by some time yet hugely influencing it. God I loved that band. |

Yes, my wife and I both play tennis so are members of our club and have to be members of the LTA. we do seem to get tickets most years. One year we got mens semi final tickets. I got talking the bloke next to me who had bought his tickets from shall we say an unofficial route (virtually impossible now) and he had paid £1,200 for his!! And this was probably ten years ago. |

Great opener that to what I would say is the first proper New Order album (Movement was a kind of Joy Division/New Order hybrid imo).
New Order are my favourite band and I do like that album but I remember my disappointment at the version of 586 that ended up on there. It seemed quite weak compared to the brilliant version they would do live or that had appeared on the John Peel Show (which of course we had all 'taped') However, fortunately that version was subsequently available on the Peel Sessions. |

Yes, you may remember 'peoples Sunday' which they would have if they got behind due to the weather and let the general public queue up to get in. They changed it all a good few years back I think. |

I got Stan to sign mine when I did the stadium tour and he was helping out. It was truly wonderful to meet and chat to my hero. He also signed my sons shirt (that had his name on it) that day which is now in a frame in his bedroom. |

Yes, I went to tons of gigs in my yoof but hardly see anyone now. I don't want the memories tainted by seeing them stumble around now.

I saw them once but as a support act. To New Order I think, at the unlikely venue of the Albert Hall. They were pretty good. |

After this years FA Cup final I happened to be up in Manchester out for the evening. I look up and there a lad in a Guinness QPR top. A U Rsss was exchanged to the bemusement of onlookers. |

I watched and enjoyed that Venables documentary last night. Great, though it was, I was very disappointed with the lack of footage and discussion about his time here. |

The concept album coincided with the introduction to Punk. Two extremes of approach. I always viewed Punk as a big V Sign to all that at the time (I was about 13) but things seemed very black and white or binary back then. You liked one or the other. Nowadays, I guess kids are exposed to so much they seem to like lots of different styles of music. Which is, of course, a good thing. |
