It was 2 weeks and then it was another 2 weeks but now he is not mentioned at all by SFC. We have more chance of seeing Lord Lucan - for those of us old enough to recall his disappearance. |

I am with you Butty. I don't feel ready and neither does it feel right at the moment to throw the towel in with RM. I recall last season started badly, in fact, we start most seasons badly. Now don't get me wrong. I am not completely sold on his style and I have been to the 3 opening games this season and I have been frustrated with the failure to change things either during a game or for the next game, though equally I don't think some of the players have raised their game. But, I get his reasoning for giving the players that got themselves promoted a chance. I always felt it would be a struggle this season to survive. Remember we did not go up automatically and we did not even finish 3rd so there were gaps even at Championship level let alone PL level. I do think RM has to be ready to change his style and adapt more for games. If he doesn't he will be the master of his own downfall. I feel inclined to give RM a bit longer. I know each game is about results and points and the longer we go without them the harder it will become and in truth out of the games we have played we should have had something on the board as they were not difficult games or teams to play against. But, we cannot simply keep changing managers each time we lose a couple or so games. I don't believe RM has a right to remain in his job and if things don't change after this break or there is at least little sign of a change then it may be time to look at other options but for now, I am prepared to give him a bit longer. |

We just know that a team in trouble can often redeem themselves when they play Southampton Kingslandstand. Ugarte will be playing for them but in truth we have just played 3 teams who really have not been anything than average but we have gifted them wins so it is difficult to see where our first win will come from. |

Well that first sentence of mine lasted a long time. Good finish by Sugawara who has looked good since he joined us. |

Only ourselves and Morecambe have failed to score thus far this season. We are architects of our own downfall because of our frailties at the back and our ineptness in front of goal at the other end. What surprises me (given how poor we were at home to Forest) is that the starting team was the same apart from the change in goal. |

Are we getting near to a thread where we ask if Graham Potter is still available? |

Good points Dirk and I am sorry if I am coming across as making excuses for him as that is not what I intended. Also, put bluntly he is not good enough for this level. I have no idea what any of the players are paid - as far as I am concerned most PL footballers are paid way too much and I cannot relate to it at all. What I was trying to convey, and perhaps not that well, he must feel peeved from a professional player point of view, but ironically, that Newcastle howler (which he had no excuse for and he is experienced enough to have known better) may well have done us a favour. Anyway, all that aside, this window and the purchases have hopefully given us a better chance of competing though so much will depend on whether RM can find the magic formula in team selection and tactics to make it work. Lets hope we can start with some points today. |

I suspect not Kingslandstand. Indeed, I am not so sure we were going to look for a replacement for him until that Newcastle howler. But, the noise about his shortcomings became louder than our vocal home support and it suddenly became a priority - though to be fair most fans always had concerns about McCarthy's ability. He has though, been professional since his time with us and he deserves recognition for what he did for us last season. |

Though I think McCarthy is a very average keeper he did help us get promotion and today must be a bitter pill for him to swallow. I know he will still get paid but it must hurt professionally. |

A proper game of football. 2 teams who just wanted to play with some freedom. Great to see a win, some goals and some excitement - especially after the weekend borefest, |

Agree Nick and previous poster. I stayed until the end and did not rush to get out but it was a bottleneck at Northam because of the fanzone narrowing the width of the space and then Kingsland only really have one direction. We turned around and went down Britannia Road which was ok and will automatically do that in the future. In respect of the game itself - it was a borefest from my perspective and I felt I had wasted time and money to travel 240 miles to see it. I shouldn't have been surprised. Our start to seasons are always slow and I cannot recall the last time we started on the front foot. Did I hear it is one win in 17 years in a first home game??? I may have heard that wrong. Whatever we do or don't do pre-season it clearly makes no difference. I felt RM got the tactics and set up wrong and should have made the changes at half time. Did not understand why our supposed strikers were kept wide and I thought Armstrong and Smallbone had really poor games. Smallbone always appeared to be facing the wrong way when he received the ball and was unable to turn and run with it so invariably passed it back. A disappointing day all round but I should have expected it. I did not understand RM's comments about it being tense. I thought the initial fan response was good until the game itself drained the life out of them. The subs came late and were messy - Edozie offered nothing. Dibling did but it was too late. |

If you play a striker in a striker position there is more chance of them scoring than placing them out wide or further up the field. It is not rocket science but for some reason it appears to be difficult to understand with our coaching team. |

I always felt that Alcaraz could be good for us but for whatever reason he is not favoured by the current management team. Even though they do not see him as having a place in this team I am struggling to see the point of taking this other player from Flamengo. |

I have Might do, undecided but in reality I am decided as I my preference is to use the pubs both before and after a game but I would not rule out never using the zones if there is a reason on a specific match day for it being more convenient. |
| Forum Thread | Corners at 07:54 19 Aug 2024
Watching the game on Saturday, I lost count on how many corners we had, especially in the 2nd half and I don't recall one creating a goal threat. We rarely beat the first man and we never appeared to attack a corner. This was an issue last season in the championship so we cannot say it is a PL thing. There was a time when corners were seen as an advantage. |
| Forum Thread | My summary of yesterday's game at 08:22 18 Aug 2024
The day after yesterday and my summary of the game is fairly straightforward. A goalkeeper error cost us any points and a failure of any of our forwards to make any impact cost us the chance of at least clawing back a draw. Against 10 men and in that second half, for all our possession in and around the box and I don't recall forcing their keeper to have to make a meaningful save. It was obvious that Howe would set up as 2 banks of 4 in the second half and just be happy to let us play around as much as we like knowing that they would limit our chances. Howe knows how to adopt the dark arts of football and he does it well - we may not like it, but it is effective. It is results that matter at the end of the day. You get nothing for tippy tappy football that has no impact. It wasn't all bad though. The goal aside, the first half was a good watch and no one had a bad game until McCarthy inexplicably gifted them a goal. There is no excuses for that gross error. He was not under significant pressure, he had time to just get rid of it as we were merely closing in to the half time break. More importantly he is an experienced keeper who should not be making that sort of mistake. It is not one off with him, you know sooner or later he will do that. That goal aside I don't recall McCarthy being seriously tested. If that doesn't tell RM that we don't have a good enough keeper I don't know what does. The thing, is everyone has been saying it for ages. Why can everyone see it except the people that matter? We showed good team spirit and grit and we were not a push over and those are good points as in the past we have been a soft touch at times. But, for all our hard work, our possession and forward play when we got near the box we offered no real threat. Even with the minutes being run down we did not make incisive runs into the box or create any real chances. There were some good performances and none more so than KWP. He was priceless and we would be mad to lose him. We cannot let the best of what we have go when it is patently going to be a hard and difficult season. Sugawara was very good and I was surprised to see him hooked off. Our midfield worked well together. Before the game I expected a defeat and a fairly hard defeat. The first half until the goal gave me unexpected hope. At the end I felt quite annoyed and frustrated because I felt we blew the game and handed Newcastle the win rather than lose by a better side. They were not better than us but they were professional and streetwise and whatever you may think of Howe he is tactically astute. A final bit on our fans. Absolutely brilliant. We made an atmosphere, we were vocal and supportive throughout and the support was good. |
| Forum Reply | Striker signing - Cameron Archer at 16:23 16 Aug 2024
Don't disagree. He is putting a hell of a lot of faith in McCarthy and in our defence and in McCarthy not getting injured as our back up (for what it is) doesn't fill me with confidence either. Unless he is relying on us scoring more goals than we concede but that is highly unlikely. Off to Newcastle tomorrow and I hate to say but I predict a fairly easy win for the home side. |
| Forum Reply | Striker signing - Cameron Archer at 10:10 16 Aug 2024
If we get 5 strikers each scoring 4 Dirk that will be a massive 20 goals. Perhaps that is the strategy - assuming we have a strategy. I am not sure if I should include Ross Stewart in that 5 though! |
