With him not even on the bench this evening, have we seen the last of him? We can but hope. The 'marquee' summer signing turned out to be the terrible one. Ah well, live and learn (hopefully).

I believe that he was on the bench BUT no one noticed because he had that invisible cloak on again - just like when he’s in the pitch !

More seriously, the bench is now strong enough that he wouldn’t justify a place even if it was in his chosen position.

What we do with next is the biggest dilemma and we need to task whoever found Dozzell a new home with this job as full time activity.

Miracles can happen.

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

Is it me or did our form change and the wins started to happen once Madsen stopped being a starting 11 player?

It seems to me that the less we see of Madsen on the pitch the better our team has become.

To be honest I think we best get shot of him come the summer. So long and thanks for the fish.

Well yes, you can't afford to have passengers at this level and his lack of physical presence makes him one most games.

If I were him, I'd get in the gym over the summer and do some core work and some conflict training to stop being such a poes.

I think we need to get some balance - the way it’s panning out, Nourry has done quite well with his signings…

Morgan - great signing
Saito - great signing
Varane - great signing
Morrison - great signing
Dembele - looked good before injury
Nardi - great signing
Madsen - terrible

& the loans (Edwards and Min-Heyuk) look handy too.

…that really isn’t too shabby

I have a question for all the excellent posters on this board and espiceally the season ticket holders .Has Alfie Loyd pushed his way past Koli in the pecking order now or is it just this few games.
I think Koli is a far bigger threat to score when the chips are down while Alfie is just a battering ram with speed ( I know he scored Saturday ).
Once Frey goes off I think Koli should be first on

I have a question as well.
Why would anyone vote down what appears to be a genuine question?

I think Madsen did better in his first games for us, when he passed the ball forward quick and accurately. Then he got a lot of flack for not tackling or running enough. Since then he looked like he had been told to do the defensive work but that came with what he was good at the quick passing, disappearing from his game. I hope he can get that back but more likely I think he'll move onto another League where football is played at a slower pace.

I think it’s horses for courses.

Frey is clearly the number 1, with the best all round game. He makes it stick, helps us get 10 yards up the pitch, is a threat in the air, and ensures the ball doesn’t come back quickly (mainly by manhandling the centre half).

Kolli is technically much better than Lloyd, although Alfie has improved a lot this season. But Kolli is less suited to playing at “9” than Lloyd, who is beginning to show he can do a job there.

At Hull Kolli started at 9 and offered little. Lloyd can on and changed the game. His pace, physicality and directness was something they couldn’t handle, but they’d contained Kolli with ease.

I think Kolli has the higher ceiling and might go further in the game, but he’s not a true 9.

If we’re really dominating a side I think Cifuentes would bring on Kolli. If it’s a bit stretched or we need to stretch the oppo, he’ll bring on Lloyd.

Either way, keeps them both keen.

Great points totally how I see it with the use of Frey, Kolli and Lloyd.
On Madsen had hopes he would improve and there were a couple of signs, but his cloak of invisibility and lack of pace and getting stuck in won't work in this league and is destined most likely back into a European league along with Celar no doubt next season.

Kolli just doesn't do it for me as a lone striker as he doesn't have blistering pace, and he hasn't got great physicality to hold the ball up.
I'm not sure where he fits or who you would play him ahead of. Maybe a 10 role, maybe out wide? Will he work hard enough, as MC loves his 'ratters'?
I actually think he has got a real challenge to get in the starting 11.

Lloyd is just chaos, and has pace to burn. Great asset away from home.

Agree. He was also playing during the horror of August to November.
The turn around started just as he started scoring. If he stays, which I hope, then next season, he could be the striker we need. He'll have better players around him.

100% agree, he is an international with a non Mickey Mouse national side ( sorry Disney) . We all saw what scoring a couple of goals did to his confidence, anyone who can score like that is worth keeping. I reckon we have over 15 players scored so far this season and not one of them Illias Chair

Once again, they aren't just 'Nourry's signings'! As both men have told us (and as common sense should advise), Marti has a big input, along with all the coaching/management staff.

I'd really like to know MC's views on that Madsen transfer in that context, but, as you say, the club is looking like it's not doing too badly wth how they're working out - though I still want to see Celar coming back and showing us he can really do, having raised his own bar just before he got injured.

it's funny how we see things in different, or more complex, ways. While I recognise Frey's reasonable goal prowess, hard-working style, and flashes of skill, for me he can also be ineffective at times and needing to be pulled off (not like that) - I think the Sheff Wed game was one instance, but there've been others. So, I've mixed feelings about him overall.

Kolli is very talented, has done very well this season at times, and will hopefully get even better with us.

Alfie I'm less sure about, but it's hard not to love him.

I really want to see Celar come back and pick up half a dozen goals before the end of the season so he can properly make his mark.

Wishful thinking and all that, but that Rovers striker last night really was what we’d like in a lone No 9 - big, strong and fast.

He had me bricking it several times.
0
Madsen on 11:11 - Feb 5 with 1359 viewsEsox_Lucius

and out fought by the likes of Chair, Morgan, Saito and Paal all night. Looking at the Rovers message board, their fans were unimpressed by him too. He didn't appear to have ny guile to his game and last night, brute force wasn't cutting it.

The grass is always greener.

Or you could argue the other way, that his poor finishing/not scoring contributed to the horror of August and November.

Marti is an excellent coach and can make a very good footballer out of less talent than Madsen. We've got in a lot of prospects this last year and Marti works miracles. Maybe Madsen will need one year with Marti and Championship football to get there, but please be patient! There are so many examples of our new players been slashed down during this last year, but Marti always delivers, even at QPR.

Nourry got huge criticism early on for supposedly poor signings only right he gets credit now, can’t get them all right but impressive Summer transfers overall.

We started with one left back and two strikers? One of whom makes me think I should have tried harder to be a pro footballer

But for the grace of Marti, loans and some kids stepping up we’d still be right in the sh’t

Have to admit, I spat my dummy with the club generally in October… still not happy about a number of things and this is very much early days relative to success or otherwise of players. What I would say is that the corner seemed to be turned when Nourry started to communicate injury updates to the supporters which showed the light at the end of the tunnel and possibly galvanised that notable support of Marti - the catalyst for a sliding doors moment?

This gives me hope that at 27 years old Nourry is still open to learning and (considered)change in approach.

Got to admire your consistency here, SE. You criticised Marti a few months ago for his involvement in poor transfers and now some of them are undoubtedly coming good, you're consistent here by giving him some of the credit. Fair play to you. By the same token, Nourry is due some credit from me to counterbalance the slagging off I did a few months ago.

On Madsen... I'd still say - whoever is responsible to whatever degree - he and Celar were our highest price and most important acquisitions and they both appear to have landed fairly wildly wide of the mark. I'd still not give up on Celar personally after 'that' night in Cardiff, though we look far better balanced with Frey in the team. Madsen though appears an absolute shocker of a transfer and completely wrong for the Championship. Unless we can get some money back on him he'll continue to hurt our P&S position for the next three seasons so not quite as easy to chalk it up to 'not every transfer works out. The swing and miss on Hevverton was exactly that and that's fair enough, no biggy. Madsen though was a significant outlay for us and with how tight our P&S situation is we just can't afford to commit what we did for a player that is far more helpful to QPR when he's sat in the stands.

The smaller fee transfers though of Nardi, Morrison, Edwards, Varane, Saito and even Frey himself have been really quite good now they're finding their feet and I think shows a much better recruitment profile than ones we've had for quite a number of seasons.
