When asked about Bidwell, Warnock told BBC Tees: “I think I just have to keep whatever I can to myself about the targets, I don’t like talking about players at other clubs.
“Jake is a good player but there are so many others we are looking at in that area. If Bola does det injured at the moment we have lost all the left-sided lads at the back and we need somebody in that area.
“I know Pelts can play there in a back four but not in a back five. I’ve just got to look at what there is available and try and anticipate the sort of injuries we had last year which sort of killed us.” |
He has spoken to a number of different targets, but Bidwell is understood to be Boro’s first choice with Swansea close to agreeing the terms of a deal that would see the 28-year-old move to the Riverside.
Warnock was reluctant to discuss individuals at this morning’s press conference ahead of tomorrow’s home game with QPR, but he admitted his liking for Bidwell and expressed confidence that a deal for a left-sided player would be completed ahead of Saturday’s trip to Derby.
“Something is close,” said the Boro boss. “I'm hoping to put a left-sided player into the squad this week. Will it be done before the end of the week? I hope so, yeah, it will give us some help.
