Doxycycline is an anti-bacterial or the tetracycline family. Their mode of action is to stop protein synthesis by cells. It works on malaria as it affects prokaryotic (bacterial)’cells but also eukaryotic cells including protozoans like plasmodium (malaria) and also host cells.
It is not anti-viral. However, it can reduce inflammation as if proteins are not made it will include lower production of cytokines-
The immune messengers. In Dengue and Covid it would reduce the likelihood of a cytokine storm. So it may be have some use in severe Covid pneumonia but is not going to cure or prevent infections.

Yep I am using Access 2007 with Jet 3.5 and which is VBA 6.5 is Visual Basic for Applications, which is extended BASIC which I programmed in back in the 80s.
I also program Excel VBA, and a little Outlook & Word VBA, usually to transfer data to them from the other two. [Post edited 19 May 2020 11:34]

Doxycycline will not cure a viral infection. It may stop the patient dying. Infection may then be cleared by the immune system.

Is President Trump using it as treatment for Malaria, Lupus or Arthritis? I'm pretty certain the "actual information" that came directly from the man himself indicated that he wasn't.
Therefore the facts are he is taking it for an unproven purpose, he is overweight, he is over 70 and it seems to be linked to heart complications. What aspect of anything I have said is "disinformation"? And it hasn't come from the mass media it's purely my observation. | | | |
