Yes it was a bitter and childish comment IN RESPONSE to A BITTER and TWISTED childish comment.
Normally I don't use such language, however I am fed up with tvvats that think it's ok to make derogatory comments about certain people.

a bit hypocritical...you jumped in calling someone else for making derogatory comments not even aimed at You?

And the Cap on social care, and also a couple of other elderly benefits. Also they wouldn't rule out VAT and othe tax rises. As far as winter fuel payments, it would depen on the level to what they were to be paid at, as to how many, or whom would be adversely affected, and the Tories would say what that level would be. Let's not forget that when you move away from a universal payment, it costs quite a lot to administer, so any savings might be largely wiped out.

Hold on. Tories bring in a universal credit programme- Lefties up in arms, not fair, blah, blah, blah.
Tories want to scrap a universal system for winter fuel payments, which will stop wealthy pensioners receiving unnecessary payments- Lefties up in arms again....

I will have a go. From my understanding of the policy of renationlisation, they were going to offer government bonds, in the case of water and other utilities. I honestly don't know, how this works, but from my understanding it has worked in other countries. Something to do with the income from these industries would pay off investment/cost of the bonds.

Railways, would have been done as each franchise came to an end, instead of governing money going to a private firm, the money would going into the running of the newly nationalised franchise.

The actual day to day spening and spending commitments were costed, though yes there was debate , questions as to the actual amount the new tax levels would raise. Of course, with people having more money to spend, tax levels could have been higher, especially in VAT, and income taxes etc. The actual cost of doing away with Student Loans would not have been as high as mentioned, as at the moment the income to the treasury from student loans repayments, is only a percentage of the amount actually paid out in loans.

Good try, I knew how the railway plans worked. Now lets go back to FACTS. You said the Labour manifesto was fully costed, as I've pointed out it wasn't. That is a FACT. It shouldn't take you to try and explain it because it WASN'T in the manifesto.

The problem with UC, is not the actual idea and principles, but the funding and some of the rules, like the payment of UC four weeks in arrears, and not allowing HB to be paid directly to landlords.

Re the scrapping of the WFP, at what level, would it have stopped being paid? They refused to say, or did not know, therefore someone getting it now, might not whether or not they were going to get it in the future. At least people knew at what income level, Labour were going to make you pay a higher rate of income tax.

Universal credit will lead to mass evictions, universal benefit to pensioners costs nothing to administer and will save minimum amounts to scrap

Blimey. This thread has meandered into a sloth of left v right with some pretty unpleasant things being said.

I generally follow current affairs quite closely and I'll say from the off I do not like Corbyn at all, or his closest allies. Or Labour.

However, whilst I might not like him, I respect him now much more, and am impressed at his ability to draw a crowd, his oratory and debating skills, and his ability to rise above a vitriolic press, and his ability to get up to a million first time voters to go through the rain and vote for him. He's confounded the polls and has reminded the Tories that if they don't up their game, there is an opposition now out there who can win seats held by Tories for decades. For a man of his age to do all that at a moment's notice is impressive I'll agree.

Yes, he was helped by an awful Tory manifesto and campaign, plus May has come out of this looking a bit shit.

Despite it all The Tories did still win although it's a hollow win, and they deserve every vote they didn't get. Ruth Davidson showed how to run a campaign, and her stance against that awful little Scottish woman earned her 13 Scottish Tory seats. If the SNP weren't so myopic about UK independence, the SNP would probably have held their 58 (I think) seats and without doing the exact maths would probably have been able to form a coalition with Labour.

So the irony, from my viewpoint is the SNP have inadvertently helped the Tories to cling onto power with the help of the Irish!

I bet I'd have got 500-1 on that a week ago!

Why am I desperate? I wrongly fell into the trap of arguing with someone who can only talk of 12 million people as being thick. I wrongly said, what I said about Tories.

For clarification. I should NOT have responded by saying that about Tort voters. Should have just aimed any remarks at the individual poster.

People who voted Labour are not thick. Many are extremely intelligent like Proffessor Steven Hawkins. There are Captains of Industry who voted Labour etc etc.

The problem with UC, is not the actual idea and principles, but the funding and some of the rules, like the payment of UC four weeks in arrears, and not allowing HB to be paid directly to landlords.

At least people knew at what income level, Labour were going to make you pay a higher rate of income tax.

Regarding the payment to tenants rather than landlords this was something specifically requested by those on the left as paying directly to landlords was demeaning and belittling to those in receipt of housing benefit. In reality as many cannot budget, especially with the move to four weekly payments many people have got into arrears. Housing associations can apply to receive payment directly from benefits after a certain amount of non payment has built up. A well indented idea, which would and has not worked.

Regarding the nationalisation apart from the railways. The giving of government bonds to shareholders is just creating more debt. The amount paid would have to be slightly above market rate and then 10 year gilts would probably pay 3% plus per year. It would be significantly cheaper to buy up the shares, but even the very expensive. Forced purchase below the market rate or any more extreme attempt to take ownership would be economic suicide.

The IFS stated the the figures used to cost the manifesto were optimistic. High levels of taxation do not bring in more money, in fact often less money. The laffer curve illustrates the point well. It may sound good to bash business and the rich, but economically it does not make sense, especially with how complex our tax systems are. Simplifying it and closing the loopholes that think tories, Gary Lineker and Saint Bono use would probably bring in more money, but this is not as flashy a policy and the hypocrites who preach for higher taxes, but use these schemes would be affected.

"Railways would have been done as each franchise came to an end, instead of governing money going to a private firm, the money would going into the running of the newly nationalised franchise."
I don't use the railways but it seems to me there is a fatal flaw in this argument because as soon as it became policy, the train companies would, I assume, simply stop all investment and extract the maximum profit from the operation for the remaining duration of their franchises. This, in turn, would then mean that the Government would simply be taking over a system that was completely under-invested and which would cost substantially more to reinstate.
