Absolutely does my nut that when someone disagrees with a player being rightly criticised they instantly accuse the critic of labeling that player a scapegoat.
It seems a convenient way for some to ignore the fact that many players (Fernandez, Taylor, Ki, Routledge and possibly others) simply are not good enough, at least not at the moment. If you honestly believe those players have been hard done by then something is wrong. They can rightly shoulder more blame than most (although no-one is blame free) for our poor form. |  | | |  |

When you take those 10 out of the squad there ain't much left, which proves that the squad needs a major overall, which should have been started at least 3 windows ago, we can't do that over one window it'll be madness and as you say the old board couldn't give a shit all their priorities were on getting the biggest buck they could, now we either sink or swim, January isn't the greatest window to try and get the right players in, plus we'd be paying way over the top for what are basically journey men.
Perhaps we might be better looking now at a few that are unattached with points to prove. |
Agree completely. We shouldn't have Leon or Rangel as starters now. Arguably not Routledge either. Others just aren't up to it, are unproven or just aren't a good fit.

But even without it, you can work in the 'same wavelength' principle in training. I wish we bloody would! |
That's what Martinez especially, did very well. Yes he recruited well, but he got the entire team thinking as one. They all knew what their teammates were likely to do next.
Brendan and Laudrup also did it. We had Dyer and Routledge tearing up defences in our first couple of seasons, whereas individually they probably weren't good enough to do it at that level, they had the likes of Leon, Gower, Danny Graham, Rangel making their job easier. Leon aside, I wouldn't class any of them as great players, but they knew how to drag defenders all over the place with clever runs and simple passes | | | |

And that's ultimately why some posters get p*ssed off with others slating players, when more often than not the player in question has contributed to successes in the past. Most of our players are proven to be good enough IF they are in a well-drilled, and confident team. |  | | |

Naughton should not be in that list based on the Arsenal Game.
He had by far the highest pass rate of anybody on the field according to 442 stats with
13 to Fer, 13 to Barrow, 11 to Fede and 10 to Cork.
He was also the main outlet for both Fede (14) and Fer (11)
He made 2 clearances 4 interceptions and one block.
Plus he had 3 "Chance" passes in to the Penalty Area.

While you are on there you can compare how ineffective Routledge was in attack and better in defense then Barrow was.

Taylor isn't all that bad don't know why people are slating him constantly. Naughton isn't much better surely?
Ki had a stormer in 14-15 but has been dogsh*t since. Routledge has faded slightly but it could be confidence, although yeah maybe he has lost pace. Fernandez has patches of being very good and average. Personally I'd be playing Mike vdH with Amat at the moment. [Post edited 16 Oct 2016 19:08]

Dyer's only 28. The way some people bang on you'd swear he was in his 30's. His biggest problem was he simply didn't fit the way Monk wanted to play. |  |

That's true in the grand scheme of things. But we're only going back to the end of last season when we played some half decent stuff with most of this team and caused other teams problems.
But yeah, of course in the bigger picture we've never been able to replace some of our core players who got us promoted. Time is certainly catching up with Leon and Angel (Angel's still our best FB though imo). Dyer should be ok for a little while when he gets fit again. Routs is a worry though. He's been a lot better for us than people give him credit, but he's not getting in behind teams this season like he used to. I'm not sure whether that's down to him or the way we're playing, but he looks like he slowing up. The club would have the stats to confirm this.
It's amazing that we still rely on the coolness on the ball of a bunch of players who were with us in the lower leagues. | | | |
