Joel Campbell 13:15 - Jun 25 with 2441 views | punkrockjack | Maybe nothing in this but he has retweeted sky sports tweet announcing Gomis is to sign for us today. You have to wonder why unless perhaps him moving here also is on the cards...?

That makes no sense whatsoever, for a start Joel Campbell is a winger. Given that Roland Lamah has left the club, and that Pablo Hernandez seems to have found stronger performance in the middle it would be safe to assume that we would be interested in a winger regardless of whether Bony stays or goes. We've made it perfectly clear time and time again that Bony is in our plans for next season. If he was to leave, it would be for a significant amount of money and would change our transfer plans. If we were to let go of him, you'd expect us to reinvest that money in to the team rather than to replace him with a loanee and a bosman. I don't know why some people have to always be the ultimate pessimist, and assume that we can't possibly make some good signings without letting go of our best players.

Campbell isn't primarily a striker, his usual position for Olympiacos, Real Betis and Costa Rica has been on the left wing.

Yes he is that's where he's played most throughout his career. He's had spells on the wing but he's most effective as a striker.

It's a bit of a moot point where he's considered most effective (a bit like the Walcott debate). He's played a lot of football out wide and there's no reason to think that the club wouldn't use him similarly. With his technical ability and pace, he'd be excellent for us in a front three. Him and Routs flanking Wilf (or Gomis) would be a very interesting set-up. edit - although as others have said, why would Arsenal let him go now after a decent WC so far? Don't go confusing the issue with rationality and common sense.

If Gomis signs, I'd see that as more of an indication that Bony is going. But who knows? Bony's agent is hawking him around, but Bony seems to want to stay. Maybe he's just looking for a better contract after a very good season last year? The joys of transfer window speculation eh?
