Injured Southampton Striker Could Play Some Part In Promotion Push

It was expected that Ross Stewart the man signed to score the goals to push for promotion would be out for the rest of the season, after a brief couple of appearances he returned to the treatment room and hasn't been seen since, however it seems the ex Sunderland striker could well be pressed into action.

Russell Martin has revealed in his post match press interviews after the last gasp win over Watford that Ross Stewart might well yet make an appearance this season.

Although one of the top scorers in the division, there is an opinion amongst some Saints supporters that we lack a striker that can put the ball in the net on a regular basis.

That may sound strange as Adam Armstrong is still the second top scorer in the Championship with 20 goals and Che Adams is only 7 behind him.

But Armstrong has been mainly used in a more wide position and with 12 assists after his superb cross for Will Smallbone's opener on Saturday is as much a provider these days as a scorer.

Adams gets goals, but many feel he should have scored far more than he has done and has missed too many good chances, that has been the case during most of his time at the club, he can put away the hard ones, but struggles with the easier chances.

footballleagueworrld have revealed though that Russell Martin gave a little clue that Stewart could yet play some part in the season, speaking to Alfie House of the Daily Echo when asked about Stewart's progress he said.

"Hopefully, he will impact it at some point this season."

That was a short but sweet insight, but it seems that Stewart could make an appearance in the final games of the season or indeed the play offs if the situation demands it.
