Exactly , after the hapless performance against the Cherries by our defensive duo
Janny the fanny and Taylor (not) Swift, maybe it's time for a Capt Jack -ABK partnership to turn this shambles around.

Jack Stephens Given Further Ban And Fine

So far this season with Stephens playing we've conceded an average of two goals a game.

Sport Republic - Building for the future but neglecting the present

I've not fully given up on Archer.
Terrible player outside the penalty area going by the Ipswich game but he looks lively and sharp in and around the penalty area.
Yes he missed three chances against Ipswich but they weren't terrible misses.
Maybe I'm clutching at straws here but surely he's a better option than Ross Stewart or Armstrong who never even look like getting into goal scoring positions for all their endeavours.

If we continue getting thrashed and humiliated and go down with a pathetic whimper then I really doubt care where we'd be in the Championship as long as we can at least be a mid table side winning some games here and there.

Don't get me wrong that's a sad scenario in many respects and I'd much rather we had a side and manager that scrapped and fought for survival in the Prem and even if that still resulted in relegation, at least it give us suffering fans some hope and we'd take it to the last few games and we go down with pride intact.

This season so far, the 22/23 relegation season and the 2nd half of the 21/22 season have just been pathetic and embarrassing to watch.

Southampton At Bournemouth The Verdict
at 10:07 1 Oct 2024

So many games follow a similar pattern, bright start but I'm sitting there waiting for us to concede from their first attack.
Crap defence, crap strikers equals relegation.
Ryan Fraser.. Sentimental signing.. More like mental signing.

Welcome back Captain Jack!!!!
at 10:02 1 Oct 2024

Does it really matter if he plays other than to give people a chance to blame one player for our woes.

He maybe crap at this level but so are the rest of the defence and team.
Can you imagine the abuse he would have got last night when THB fell asleep for their first goal.. Nick would have had kittens!

We can't defend and we can't score goals.
As you say we are a Championship team in all but name.

My lad has given up on the team already, sits there during the game on bloody crap tock where it's so bad.
No enthusiasm for any away games as it's a waste of time.

Just wants us back in the Championship as we had such good memories from last season.
Can't blame him tbh.

Agreed, solid defensively with Taylor on the left and Les and Flynn mopping up.
Three in front that have shown they can create chances.

Just down to Archer to show he's the man.

Agree, best manager and era in Saints history.

Don't agree about the players being over coached.
Yes there were great individual flair players in the past but the players overall are far better, technically and physically.

As much as I have great memories of the 80s supporting Saints the standard of football when you revisit games via YouTube is woeful.

Slow and endless long balls pumped down the channels or straight up the big man up top.

It's like watching Eastleigh now.

5 Things About The Ipswich Game
at 12:53 24 Sep 2024

I took a family member who only goes occasionally, he's quite the observant type.

I sit just to the right of the half way line in the Itchen and
One of the first things he said was previously all he ever heard was the away fans and yes I used to find it embarrassing sat there whilst divided lot were outsung.

Definitely better now and you could clearly see everyone in the Northam joining in.

Just needs the players to battle and show some fight and score few goals.

5 Things About The Ipswich Game

I thought the Northam end was really good and vocal and I wouldn't say they missed any away fan banter at all.
It was just much louder than normal and it spread around the stadium.
We just need to the players to perform and score a goal or two and the crowd respond accordingly.

The positives today
at 10:41 22 Sep 2024

For me our status as a genuine Premier league club came to an end when we chose not to give Ings the big bucks and instead chose to give Theo Walcott 50k a week and then replace Ings with Armstrong.

To allow a top class finisher with experience slip through our hands was a fatal error for our club and we now look like yo yo fodder.

As an example of a similar club, Palace paid big bucks in wages to keep Saha happy and his presence and ability played a big part in establishing them as a mid table club that led them attract the likes of Eze and Olise . ...meanwhile at cut price Saints the owners were patting themselves on the back on saving Ings wages.

Water under the bridge now though. Just hope Archer gets sprinkled with the magic fairy dust.

Yep agreed, it's harsh on Dibling to put him in such a responsible role at his age but your right as he's the only attacker we have who has the strength and technique to receive the ball and shrug off the defenders and either drive forward or lay it off to a runner.

Plus he'll score goals.

We clearly lack that focal point that Che for all his inadequacies used to offer us.

We can all pretty much guess where this seasons going as we neither have the funds or the savvy recruitment required to bring in the striker that would get the required goals to survive.
Same as last time we were in the Prem.

All we can hope for is we put up a fight and give us something to cling onto and just hope and pray someone in that forward line other than Dibling can raise their game.

Archer showed his sharpness and ability to get in great positions in the box but missed three good chances.. Not good enough sadly.

He offered very little outside the penalty area and struggled with any sort of hold up play /winning the battle with the CB.

The positives today

Trying hard to ignore the usual forever angry/ hysterical types that post on here and add a few positives from today.

The crowd. Particularly the northam wall, loud and proud today and the rest of us joined in.

THB , Bedders partnership . Admittedly less challenging as Ipswich will likely be bottom dwellers but they look a decent pair.

Lallana. Class act , like a conductor of the orchestra. Shame he couldn't last the distance.

Fernandes. Top young midfielder .

Downes. Worked so hard today and looking more more comfortable as a Prem player now.

Dibling. WOW. Forgetting the sublime touch and finish it was that beautiful outside of the boot pass to set Stewart free .

Ramsdale. Two fantastic saves, some of his passing out was ropey today though but top top keeper.

Top 3 things about being in the Prem
at 08:11 20 Sep 2024

1. Praised by Guardiola.

2. To see the joy on the faces of the away fans at the end of the game.

3. Daring to dream that we might score two goals in a game.... One day.
