| News Comment | Forest flop leaves QPR nursing unwanted record - Report at 14:21:39
I thought we were decent in the second half, two wingers giving it a go. As for the ref: the two fouls in the first half were nailed-on yellow cards. I can never fathom why refs are so reluctant to get their cards out early in the game. A yellow is a yellow, whether it's in the first minute or the 91st. |

Thanks for the excellent report. Magnificent, as always. Just one thing, re. pedantic refs: it is annoying, true - but more annoying still is that footballers are on a never-ending quest to accrue the tiniest advantage from every single situation. Remember when the refs' white foam was introduced? To begin with, players in the wall stood behind the line. Now, they stand on it. Soon they'll be inching forwards and standing in front of it. (And remember that the white foam was introduced because the wall would always shuffle forwards before the kick was taken.) And what possible advantage can be gained from placing the ball for a corner so that it barely touches the white paint of the white line in the quadrant? But still: they all do it. Every throw-in is appealed for, regardless of who touched it last. And yards are stolen at every throw-in. How many free kicks are taken from the spot where the foul was committed? Again, yards are stolen every time. (Against Reading, a Reading player was fouled and then rolled forward several yards - which was where the kick ended up being taken from.) And remember when yellow cards were introduced for kicking the ball away? Players have now calculated exactly how far they can kick the ball away without getting booked - and they do it all the time. This distance inflates, month by month. This all amounts to incremental cheating: trying to gain advantage by devious means at every opportunity. You, Clive, have railed against time-wasting. This stuff comes from the same manifesto: cheat, cheat, cheat at every tiniest opportunity. It's boring when refs try to stamp it out, but if players just got on with playing football rather than trying to cheat their way into an incremental advantage, they wouldn't need to. |

I agree with most of this. But what is mean by Leicester's "miraculous/suspicious" Premier League title? I've been over this in my mind and I can't think of any circumstances under which is might be "suspicious". |
