And so it begins 22:59 - Aug 21 with 6073 viewsLblock

At the game behind me tonight such nuggets as

“We are sh1t, can’t play football and it’s worse than last year”

“Matt Smith is the worst player I’ve ever seen”

“Warburton is clueless”

Then on here it’s rumblings of the old tune; Rip It Up and Start Again
I will say Amos hasn’t impressed me, Smith less so and the Barbet / Hall axis at the back looks as strong and reliable as a drag queen chorus line.

Going forward I think we’ll do fine and it’s a good watch but we do loo a tad brittle
I can’t resist it..... I have to join in....

“Wigan is a must win”

Just a word to those already jumping all over 2 defeats.

We are not going up. We were never going up. We need to stay up.

Totally new way of playing and totally new management and team.

Apart from the ocean between our 2 CBs and one of them tackling shins rather than a football we have the nucleus to be a pretty good, entertaining mid table team.

Give them TIME!

Agreed Bosh. Was ever thus, lose a game (or two) and certain parties have a meltdown.

We are 4 games into a league season, with a new manager, a new playing style and about 80% change of playing staff - it needs time to bed in. All the early signs are promising but it is very early days - there will be bumps in the road for sure.

At the start of the season given the volume of change our goal this year was survival and from what we have seen so far that looks very achievable. I think the Stoke game in a way was unhelpful in that some people re-set their expectations....

Dunno about Wigan Dave.
But WBA is a 'must-win"

Disagree. WBA is a " must not lose by 7" game

Personally I don't think Smith is ready for this level of football. I was not impressed on Saturday and even less so yesterday.

He might have shown the odd good touch, but far too often play passed him by, and he showed a complete lack of awareness playing with his back to goal. The contrast between him and Chair/Eze/Pugh when playing in that position is stark. Whereas Eze/Chair/Pugh can take the ball facing away from goal, turn, and direct play forward, Smith seemed incapable of doing that. And he's a complete failure at the ratting side of the game that Scowen was being used for. It might be his best position is deeper in midfield where the play is in front of him.

He's 19, and deserves time and encouragement, but at the end of the day if he's keeping Chair or Pugh out of the side, just because we have to contractually play him, then things are going to turn ugly against him fairly quickly.

Far worse though was Hugill. He seemed incapable of trapping a ball, on the very rare occasion he didn't let the Swansea defender get there first despite having two yards on him. Even Matt Smith wasn't as flat footed as him. He started brightly against stoke and Huddersfield, and I though we had a good one, but in the last two games his overall impact on play has been poor. I know he scored the goal yesterday but other than that he was absolutely appalling.

Sorry Swiss you must have been at a different game to me. Hugills running off the ball was decent last night, his self worked volley could have been a goal of the season contender. He never gave their defenders a moments peace. And he had every right to be fuc£ed off with the lino in the 2nd half who was randomly guessing offsides. And he did score.

Sadly we've been subjected to seasons of mediocrity and the default position of some idiots is to barrack their own players. Pity as last night was never a 1-3.

Poll: Remy - can he play in the playoffs - who's opening post is the best?

I wasn't barracking anyone durign the match, but I'm expressing my opinion that he lost the ball far more than anyone else in that side last night through what I regard as beign a bit of a light weight.
In the second half nearly every time the ball was played to Hugill's feet, he stood there waiting for it and let the Swansea defender starting from a yard or two behind him get round him nick it before he even got a touch.

For it to happen once or twice in a match as a number nine isn't great, but I counted over 6 occurrences of this in the second half alone. Their CB pretty much had him in his pocket most of that second half.

Thinking back to the likes of Gallen, Furlong who were masters of using their backsides and holding off a defender as the ball was coming to them, I just see none of that ability in Hugill.

I didnt say you were barracking him - just disagreed as i thought he pretty much run himself into the ground. We need to get support closer to him IMO.

Well they’ve got Austin, Phillips and Furlong playing for them so that’s a guaranteed 3 goals to start with.

I'm really enjoying watching the team so far this season but I really hope they put on the same display against Wigan and not a chronic display, which if happens the boo boys will be rubbing their hands with glee.

Win loose or draw this team needs time, at the moment we have plenty

captains fantastic

Very true. Our two losses have come against teams who – broadly speaking – play the type of game we're trying play. They're just better at it at the moment because they've more experience. At least I hope that's the case.

I had to have a word with a bloke after about 10 minutes as he repeatedly kept telling Scowen he was a c@nt, despite the fact he wasn't even on the pitch at that point.

My favourite complaint of the night was the fella who screamed abuse at Hugill for always passing it backwards after he retrieved the ball from going out for a goal kick and knocked it back down the line to keep possession. I can only assume that he would rather Hugill had taken aim at a Swansea fan in the upper tier and booted it into the stands.

Seriously, what do we have to do to change the attitude of some of our fans? A misplaced pass doesn't make someone a c@nt. We have had plenty over the years who have deserved to have that thrown at them, but if a player is giving their all then maybe we should just get behind them?
