If that wasn't irresponsible enough they've called a general election - if (a small if, agreed) we elected a Coalition I cannot even begin to imagine the ramifications of that
i'm really not sure there's a precedent for a country with the reputation of the United Kingdom doing what we are right now. it's absolutely astonishing.

In essence i agree with you. But the op's post? they're all juggling for position. Brexit's mad. the e.u's mad, they're all effing mad but it's us who'll suffer. Living on a small island with it's own government is illuminating, the corruption is so evident, and i imagine this is a microcosm of what happens everywhere. Not so long ago we had a crusader exposing the corruption on the island, they hounded him into an early grave and the tool of the person responsible was given a seat in our version of the upper chamber. How many people really have any idea what is going on in the EU in the past, now or the future plans?
My guess would be that the answer is very close to zero. Journalists like BBC's Katya Adler and diplomats like the recently departed Ivan Rogers (former UK ambassador to the EU) would be expected to know considerable details but I am far from convinced there are many people in the government have any real grasp of the issues likely to come up over the next 23 months. |  |

I find it completely mystifying that May seems to be so popular still. I don't understand what people find appealing about her either as a person or as a PM but then I'm in my twenties and quite liberal so maybe not the target market for this Tory regime. Pensioners, rich and poor, seem to love her- a staunch Remainer who is now so rabidly pro the hardest of hard Brexits for her own career prospects and legacy.
Is it that people are just so anti-Corbyn they'd vote for a parrot with a blue rosette that was trained to squawk "strong and stable" every five minutes or is there something about her that people actually like?

I agree, she's a more competent con-artist than Trump. People trust her because she's dresses appallingly, she never says anything with any meaning at all, and the few things she has ever done have been authoritarian yet small-time. |  |

You are not alone about May and I'm much older than you so not an age thing as most of my friends are of my age and feel the same.
I support Labour and JC on policies I can believe in, I can't believe anything May says.
Sadly people do vote on personalities both would not get far on BGT but undoubtedly JC gets the bad press and there lays the answer . |  |

I think we have to accept that the EU are going to be as obstructive as possible. They will do whatever they can to make an example of the UK thereby deterring other possible exiteers. I fully expect us to leave with absolutely no trade deal in place and chaos at Dover. I can also see major clashes over UK fishing rights with the probable involvement of the Navy intercepting foreign trawlers.
This is going to get considerably worse before it gets any better. |  |

This is a common misunderstanding about our political system. We don't have a directly elected Premier, the PM is effectively either elected by MPs or by the political party he/she belongs to. | |
