Media Goes Strangely Silent About Koeman Thursday, 9th Jun 2016 10:17 After a week of rumour after rumour about Ronald Koeman and his move to Everton the media has either grown bored, run out of leaked stories or something is amiss with the deal.
A week ago the press went big on the story that Ronald Koeman was off to Everton, fuelled by leaks from both Koeman's agent and the former Arsenal employees now working for new Everton shareholder Moshiri at Goodison Park, the media were convinced that Koeman would be Everton manager by Friday evening, then Saturday morning, then definitely Saturday evening when Koeman's agent said the deal was done, then perhaps not Sunday morning but Sunday evening after his agent retracted his previous statement, then certainly Monday before Koeman went on Holiday.
On Tuesday it was announced that Saints and Everton had agreed terms, that was for a whole hour before the Toffee's themselves announced that they hadn't.
By Wednesday the media had stopped speculating, suggesting either their is a hiccup in the deal or it is about to happen, certainly though something is holding it up and it is unsure whether it is Koeman himself, Saints in their demands or if the Toffee's are getting cold feet.
Whatever the reason no one seems to be briefing the media and most of the attention surrounding Saints seems to be regarding Frank De Boer and his imminent arrival at St Mary's not the departure of his perhaps to be predecessor.
One good thing is that Eddie Howe seems to be ruling himself out of the job whic is a little bit like me announcing that I am not interested in being the singer in U2 should Bono leave.
So what is happening ?
Some are saying that Saints should be taking the lead here and making a statement, but the truth is there is little to say, the club are paying it right at the moment, not commenting on after all what is only speculation, of course as Saints have not agreed compensation with the Merseyside club and given permission for Koeman's agent to meet with them, this meeting cannot have happened so how can Saints comment on it.
Saints supporters should trust in the club to get things right, the people demanding a statement are the same ones who in the next breath will berate Les Reed for making a statement 3 weeks ago that new contract talks were going well.
So in the current situation it is best to let matters take their course and trust the club to get it right, after all they have done over the past two years.
Ignore the press speculatio, most of it is just that speculation rehashed and rehashed again from stories with little substance.
If you want to read between the lines then look at what the Echoare saying and Adam Blackmore of Radio Solent, they are the journalists closest to the club, any message the club want to get out will come via these channels at the moment as in the story that Dusan Tadic for instance will be likely to stay and that that only one member of the squad has any real loyalty to Koeman.
All will become clear in the next couple of days, but the club appear to be preparing for every possibility and they are not being brow beaten by Everton hence the fact that no agreement has been reached, it will be on Saints terms and Saints terms only, otherwise the deal will not happen with the club prepared to pay Koeman to spend a year on gardening leave for the remainder of his contract if neccessary.
Southampton are now a well run and strong club, much stronger than we were two years ago.

I'm confused, have we agreed compensation with Everton as per the BBC and everyone else or have we not as per you?
tempo77 added 10:34 - Jun 9
In addition the article on the BBC that states we had agreed compensation was written by Adam Blackmore who you are recommending we listen to, therefore I'm still confused!

Bono is leaving U2? Wiz won't be happy.

That squid bloke will love the Toffee apostrophe! You use the word 'bored' and I think that's the answer. It is probably not being delayed so Everton can announce it on World Toffee Day because that would spark media interest. Boring I dotting and t crossing probably - very odd nonetheless. Howe is equally as honourable as Koeman so him ruling himself probably means he's now at St Marys - or on holiday...

That's a new one Nick..... After loads of 'no news' articles everywhere, a news article making news about the fact that there's no news ! Actually, whether there's a case for the 'anti board ' lobby to push lack of ambition as one of the reasons for RK's decision or not, I'm starting to believe that the club may have given him a bit of a 'shove'? I've argued before about it probably being a mistake to let RK wind down his contract on his terms and that if he didn't sign we were better off looking for someone else at a time of our choosing. Perhaps the club are more in control of this situation than I originally thought?

Interesting idea IWOZ. Would make sense if Koeman said "I'm staying but will definitely go next summer". Could also explain the agent change? However, the piece in the Echo about de Boer not being wanted says that Les Reed heard of Koeman's change of heart in the media...

Liverpool Echo reported that compensation was agreed about an hour after the denial. The hold up was apparently a no-poaching clause in Koemans release deal. Seemingly Southampton released the 'deal done' news before the no-poaching clause was bottomed out as, naturally, they wanted to try and force the deal through without it. Seems like they wanted to try and publicly embarrass Everton into agreeing that the deal was done rather than issue a denial. Whatever really occurred the reports are today that Pelle is in talks with us and Stoke...looks like the no-poaching agreement didnt happen?!.

ITS PRETTY OBVIOUS REALLY, KOEMAN IS WAITING ON THIS GOING PUBLIC UNTIL SAINTS HAVE GOT THEMSELVES A FANTASTIC MANAGER, IE PELLIGRINI AND FRANK DE BOER(NOT RONALD AS MENTIONED ON HERE). IT WILL TAKE SERIOUS HEAT OFF RONALD KOEMAN. HE REALLY NEEDS TO PRACTICE WHAT HE PREACHES. IF THERE IS ANY OPTOMISM LEFT IN ME, IF HE WAS TO STAY AT SAINTS, MAN THAT WOULD MAKE MY DAY, SIMPLE REASON IS,THE AMOUNT OF SMUGNESS OFF EVERTON FANS ON TWITTER IS UNBELIEVABLE. SO NO MATTER WHO WE GET IN, THIS IS WHY I RECKON KOEMAN HASN'T BEEN ANNOUNCED.HES SIMPLY WAITING FOR SAINTS TO GET THEIR MAN.
SanMarco added 11:45 - Jun 9
Buck - why would Koeman worry about any of that? + I'm sure sensible Everton fans will wait for a few good results next season before getting too smug - especially if Pelle is replacing Lukaku !! Jonesy - presumably poaching clauses don't apply if all parties are happy with the deal (?)

Personally I think they are simply arguing over details - in the same way Mourinho's deal to Man U was delayed. It'll be announced sooner or later.

I think they are still haggling about the clause Saints want to put in about not signing their players for the coming season, there is no way Everton will agree to that and hopefully Saints dig their heels in and the whole thing falls through.Koeman has never been on my list of candidates.

mr koeman now knows why the english are detested all over the world why becouse we have laws & transparency . i do not think it has anything to do with the compensation, perhaps southampton have everton & mr koeman right where they want them, just 2 simple signatures then everybody moves on.

Given that it seemed Koeman wasn't keen on Pelle in the second half of the season and signed Charlie Austin to replace him, it seems strange that Pelle would want to go to Everton if Koeman goes there. Not sure that everton fans would be happy with signing a striker in his 30's who would struggle to get a game in the starting line up at st mary's when all are fit. Dont get me wrong I rate Pelle but we have better
SanMarco added 12:57 - Jun 9
"we have better" - don't say that Nick - let em have Pelle, he's the best we have....
bstokesaint added 13:06 - Jun 9
Couldn't agree more Nick. As much as like Pelle, I think Saints play a better shape when they play with a speedy attacking three. If we could get good money for him, it wouldn't be as bad as losing a Long or a Mane. Plus we have to fit J-Rod in somewhere and we all know what he is capable of.

Is there a way back for Koeman if he has a change of heart on holiday?. After all surely the mrs's have a say in where they would like to live and it elms there are three of those to be consulted. Everything has happened so quickly there has until now not been time for anybody to reflect on what they are doing. Now they are on holiday and off the merry-go-round, they have seem to think things through and reflect. Koeman is still our manager, nothing has changed and it would not surprise me one little bit if he led us out in August.

nicky, good use of commas. poor use of apostrophes as someone has already pointed out. squid has been saying for ages that there might not be a deal and RoKo might not go, although if he now stays it will be a mite embarrassing.

I have found it strange that Everton (Martinez) came to St Marys and whopped our, Saints (koeman)s arse with a 3-0 win and now Everton have dumped their manager and want ours. If deal does not go ahead (faint hopes) the relationship between Saints, the fans and Koeman will have broken down. He should be put on gardening leave(sit in the stands) and a temporary manager appointed if necessary. ( LVG is available. not too serious a suggestion)

I have been told the following: Everton appraoch agent Agent says to koeman 'everton are keen and offering a shite load of cash.....do you want to have a chat with them? Koeman - 'yeah sure, why not. You need to check with saints first as otherwise im breaching my contract. Agent - 'Les, Koeman wants to have a chat with everton, we can do this the hard way or easy way'. Can we speak to them please? Les - ' ok,but let us hash out terms with everton in case Big ron likes what they say' Everton/Saints - Agree on 5m compensation and give green light for ron to speak. Ron - 'show me the money' Everton - 'here it is, this is what we are offering, what do you think?' Ron - 'seriously, thats double what saints were offering. Ok let me think. I am keen but need some time as i just did a big press conference to say i wasnt interested....like 2 days ago. i actually said i was staying at saints. I will probably say yes but let me get back to you after my holiday' Everton - 'Ok, have a think and let us know. Saints - 'Ron thats a lot of cash. I guess your probably going to go. Ron, you can go but let us know first so we can find another manager before the media go mental' Ron - 'ok, will give you a call when im back. End result....no news Thats what i have been told anyway

Marco - when is a no-poaching clause not a no-poaching clause?. Sounds like the intro to a joke doesnt it?!. Were hoping to see the back of Kone and, likely, Niasse as well as anticipating the departure of our restless Belgian. Pelle could well fit the bill as a squad striker.
