| News Comment | Southampton V Stoke City The Carabao Cup Verdict at 09:31:20
I think RM worries that by scoring goals he gives possession back to the opposition on the half way line. Have to agree with Nick though. I've had enough of this boring sideways walking football where forwards making runs in behind are just ignored. Even Tall Paul was giving his team mates some ear-ache over their lack of decent service last night. Fact is last night showed Saints to be at a pretty average Championship level. It's decision time for SR. More of this insipid nonsense and relegation to Championship mediocrity with the lowest ever points total or change the plan to at least give us a fighting chance of avoiding the drop. |
| News Comment | Jack Stephens Given Further Ban And Fine at 17:33:18
Nice to see Stephens handing some stuff back to the EPL prima donnas. Also nice to see that he'll not be back just yet. Probably his last game under RM. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Sunderland The Preview at 17:10:52
It's now a game in hand but automatic promotion was lost when RM indulged in playing at tinkerman yet again. Best now to just take each game as a step towards the play-offs. In order to win those games we need to stop conceding and to start converting those chances. Personally I expect Saints to be playing Pimpley in the Championship next season with a much weaker squad. That can be directly laid at the door of last season's mismanagement. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Rotherham United The Verdict at 21:53:36
"we are nicely poised" Are we? I also prefer not to look at games in isolation. The last 7 games have returned two wins and seven points. I'd say we're nicely poised for mid table and nowhere near the play-offs, let alone automatic promotion. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Liverpool The Preview at 11:09:29
I appreciate that Nick will have his ear closer to the fans on the ground than many of us but is there any evidence that large numbers of fans will be turning on either the current or the future manager? A few blokes venting their spleen on internet forums just might not be representative. Anyway, on to the game. The end is nigh at last and I have no idea what to expect beyond yet another Saints defeat. Put this episode to bed and just hope that is was all just a bad dream. Oh yes, and thanks to Nick as well of course. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Brighton The Verdict at 09:57:42
"at least Ruben Selles did look to the future with his squad selection, sadly it looks like he will not be a part of it himself.". If that was a look to the future then we should be worried, although Tino looked good so he'll likely be gone soon enough. I also really don't think there's much to be sad about if Saints approach a future without Selles. He's been a common factor throughout this awful season. Nice chap but out of his depth. |
| News Comment | Saints Forward Commits Himself To The Club Next Season at 09:14:29
I'm sure AA could do a job for Saints just so long as they actually try attacking the opposition for a change rather than fannying around at the back and ignoring forward runners. AA is another in a seemingly long list of natural goalscorers who've arrived at Saints only to have that flair knocked out of them. I'm finding it hard to think of a player who has actually improved during their time under Ralph and Selles. We've now ended up with a demoralised squad that have a losing mentality. That has to change sharpish. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Fulham The Verdict at 10:06:40
"the same gutless offering that has been mainly the case since the arrival of Nathan Jones" Surely the same gutless offering since March 2022. Something changed way back then. |

"Bella-Kotcha doesn’t appeal for anything". Saints players never seem to appeal for anything. They're totally passive, as if being led to the gallows. |
| News Comment | Ruben Selles ! A Good Man In The Wrong Place At The Wrong Time at 09:41:43
Isn't Selles really just Ralph 2.0 with the return of crab football and JWP playing too deep? He's been there right there right through this awful season so cannot avoid being at least partly to blame. Who's to say that he wasn't the cause of Jones' well-known frustrations as well? Regardless of all that, the problem surely lies with the fact that Ralph wasn't shown the door at the end of that poor run towards the end of last season. That there was relegation form and it was the time to put a respected and proven man in charge. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Newcastle United The Verdict at 11:23:13
Look at the Saints collapse of form at the end of last season for a reminder of why Ralph should have been replaced back then. He is not the answer and the Ralph 2.0 in charge currently offers us some idea of what might have been the result of another season with Ralph. I'm beginning to wonder whether we might have had a better chance under Jones. That's how bad things are right now. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Newcastle United The Preview at 10:15:21
If there's one thing to look forward to it's that this game takes us one more step to ending this miserable season. Actually it's more than just this season though. We've seen relegation form at least since the start of 2022. I'm also given to wondering whether Jones could have done any worse than Selles who, let's not forget, has been there all season. I'm pretty sure Jones wouldn't have had Saints fannying around with the ball at the back without any sense of urgency in "must win" games. |

" it’s been basically 15 months since we won a game by over 2 goals (against Brentford at home in January 2022)! Which ended 4-1) in the league, which just shows of how poor we’ve been over this period." That fact tells a story of where Saints' main problems lie in itself. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Manchester City The Verdict at 17:23:14
Whether or not the EPL is the best in the world as Sky Sports keep telling us (open to debate) or whether the football pyramid is corrupt (obviously it is) I still want to see a decent Saints side throwing their weight around among the big boys. The reason that Saints will not be participating next season is down to incompetent management and a bloated inexperienced squad. It'll be a long haul back up from the Championship - that's if we're lucky. In the meantime enjoy the delights of secret no 9's or goblin midfielders or ghosting defenders or whatever the latest football management consultant gobbledegook is of late. That's what'll send us down without so much as a shout. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Manchester City The Preview at 11:16:35
I wouldn't be dropping Perraud, simply because he's currently our greatest threat in the attacking third. I lot of money was spent a couple of months ago on players that it was thought would make Saints more of an attacking threat. Maybe it's time to give them some game time. Oh, and stop JWP fannying around deep with all that passing sideways/backwards before eventually getting Moi/Stu to give the ball away. If there was one thing that Jones got right it was to push JWP further forward. Might as well lose 2-6 as 0-1. |

Shankly:"If a player isn't interfering with play or seeking to gain an advantage, then he should be!". I'm from an era where having 3 or 4 players offside in the penalty area would have been more than enough grounds for awarding a free kick. There'd have been no room for dispute either. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Brentford The Verdict at 12:08:55
"there is still a long way to go yet". There really isn't. Saints will now need to win pretty much half the 11 games left in order to escape the relegation trap door. Given the inability to score goals I'd suggest that it won't be long before we're beyond salvation. |
