I hope you’re right, but after 2 losses I fear they will be fired up. It’s 2 hours from me and was considering going, but after journeying to Spotland for last week’s defeat I wanted to avoid another one.
Guess that means we’ll win and I’ll be happy and hacked at the same time.

I’ll put it another way. Neither side deserved anything from the game. It was a stalemate and neither team deserved to win.
No Southend fans spoken to since I got back have said Southend played well. They watched a poor game like myself.
You thought Southend probably had plenty left in their locker and could step up a gear if needed to You may be right and that may be why the fans here are not happy with the their team’s inconsistency this season. They could just be dossing their way to mid table obscurity. But I think Maher is to smart to allow that.

We deserved a draw on Saturday, only because Southend were equally poor. We truely only deserved a point last night on the balance of play, but ended up winning. So three points rather than a deserved two over both games. Overall a positive outcome.
Have to agree that the foot on the ball stuff in and around our own area is an accident waiting to happen, again. It kills the atmosphere, and long term will only be tolerated by the majority of supporters if we win. There is so much about Jim that exudes a manager of men, who gets people playing for him / the fans. The after match celebrations last night demonstrated that. But we have two forwards who like the ball played in front of them at pace. He needs to set his team up to play to its strengths more often, especially at home. The more he does that the more engaged the supporters will be.

Just got back from my Rochdale visit. The game was dreadful. Neither side deserved anything from it. When we started to exert some pressure we let he momentum drift away again. Southend didn’t need to wrestle it of us. 500 mile round trip and I will just end up with grief from Southend supporters.
The only saving grace was the company of the good folk in the Comrades Club. Plus I was able to stock up with Smiths pies before it closes for the last time.

Although I live in Southend I haven’t seen them this season. The people I have spoken to tell me that they are really inconsistent, and lack height. The forward that went to FGR and the centre half they had to sack have really exacerbated the situation. However their weakness is also one of ours. In that we do not score many from corners. Ferguson and Beckwith are both big lads and I would be tempted to play both on Saturday, fitness allowing.
We can beat them but will need to be on our metal as they can turn in a very good performance, like scoring 4 at Solihull.
Travelling up for the game so I hope Dale turn up and graft, if they do I think they will win.

At least 8 players.have scored in 14 games. I don’t think that is too shabby. Managers won’t start changing their set up to try and subdue Mitchell. He’s not Messi. I think the likes of Burger would love any additional space caused by more attention being given to Mitchell.
I do agree that when Wesley went back it left us light up front. So I would expect someone to come if either Mitchell or Hendo were to get injured or even before. But if JM isn’t panicking neither am I.
Really chuffed for KM so far. I have always had time for him, but he has really found his mojo this season.

Interesting. There must still be money in the kitty. I really like Josh but didn’t see this as a priority.
Let’s hope it yields results, however unmeasurable they may be.

What a strange comment about Robson. The ball is lost in the muddle of the park. He is offering and option so is out of the area and the forward passes it into the net. Then he fails to save a penalty. From your comments I presume you thought Kelly was nailed on to save the penalty. Because other than that the keeper didn’t need to make a save.
First look at Dale this year, and on a compact field they were able to have full control. TAR was really good, and East and Burger dovetailed well. McBride is interesting, he looks half a yard short of pace but still seems to make good contributions.
Fully deserved 2 up at half time, with 2 good finished. Early second half we still kept domination. Then Ferguson and maybe Burger leave it for each other and their forward says thanks. Then the penalty is needless penalty and we are in a fight. We wrestled back control and Beckwith hits a pile driver which is blocked. Short or wanted TAR to try a pull back rather than try and find Mitchell in the six yard box with the numerous byeline crosses. But that has been successful more than once this season so I get it.
Five minutes of poor decision make cost us a 95 minute game. BJ can only mange the manageables so cant lay and blame at his door. Frustrating, but this was night and day compare to this fixture last year. We are still a good side. UTD

I kept in touch the game through game through the medium of bet365 in play. Tellingly immediately after Mitchell scored Dale were 6/1 on to win the game. Those familiar with the betting sites will know as the game and time goes on these odds shorten. Yesterday 10 minutes after the goal Dale where 4-1 on. So that was a clear sign the game wasn’t going to plan. Not until the 55th minute did the odds change to 9/2 on. So I knew we were in a scrap and not on top in it.
So a functional win with not much more to be said. We played better at Eastleigh and lost by two. But that is now seven clean sheets. Will people continue to turn up for 1-0 win’s while getting out played in the main, strangely history says the will. Look at George Graham’s Gunners team. Sure more Woking and less Braintree is needed, but this is now a game where winning is everything.
I”ll be seeing them for the first time this year at Ebbesfleet, who seem to have the smallest pitch and where space is at a premium. Yep i’ll Take a boring 1-0 Dale win right now.

Understand. But it not sentiment to have a player already familiar with club and style to step in should Ferguson get crocked in the near future. Rather than getting one drafted in at short notice

Welcome this deal, given the how shallow we are at centre half at the moment. A deal until the end of the season seems to hit the spot. Although I would be made up if he can’t force his way into the team due to the existing CH’s being injury free, or returning from injury to keep him out.

I’ll go Dean Martin and accentuate the positive. Whilst we have conceded 9 goals we have more than 50% clean sheets. The front pairing have already netted 12 goals. With last year’s player of the season missing for over 80 minutes the midfield still controlled the game. In the circumstances who wouldn’t be pleased with the progress.
I do think another centre half loanee is now needed as we have no cover for an injury prone player. Plus there is no option to change to a back four, if desired.
I posted on here after the Ebbsfleet at home last season that I thought I was going to enjoy the National League. I am doing so in spades so far this season.

Where has that grit and grind been all season? We were generally excellent in the second innings. Great contributions from Singh,in occupying the crease, Flintoff, Wells and Balderson. Shame Wells threw away his wicket mind.
So so frustrating.

Well we have reached the vaunted 10 game mark, by which stage it’s said you know where you stand.
So we are undoubtedly better than last season with a better squad, and more strings to our bow in every sense. After8 games the defence looks great, now well let’s lets say there is work to do and confidence to restore. The midfield options are as good as any in this league imo. Mitchell and Rodney are doing what’s expected of them, and in Mitchell’s case probably more than most fans expected. If Hendo is not being relied on that is a positive sign for me. His time will come at some stage and he knows how to take them.
In the main we are playing a more agreeable and rewarding style of play. Many of the new signings have made a positive difference.
This remains a difficult league to assess but I now believe the play offs are what we are capable of. Their will be strange losses and unexpected wins along the way but the dream is very much still alive for me. UTD

Reduce “pissing about at the back”, agreed. Stop it No. there are some short memories. Sassi broke the Maidenhead midfield defence with one pass resulting in a goal less than 180 minutes play ago.
Today we lost to a perennial top 10 side. I am not going to spend the rest of the weekend compiling my dossier to BJ on what he need to change. I have come to realise, to my disappointment, I am not a football coach and never will be.

Are we still bubbling under or are we at the peak of our powers right now. I can still make a case for the former despite our league position. Three different centre half’s already had to be use and yet we have only conceded 3. The competition for place in the middle is so strong that we genuinely have numerous options and therefore training pitch competition for places. While up front we last night could not find a place on the bench for Hendo and yet nobody batted an eye lid.
I don’t care what BJ sees as his best 11, as long as the ones he chooses know others are breathing down their necks for the shirt.
As an aside, Holt, Murray, Hogan, O’Grady et al still burn bright in our memories. So Mitchell will always struggle to be held in the same affections as many of his predecessors, but that is a really high bar. I have always liked him but I am trying to resist a picture for me wall right now. The good lady isn’t to keen.
Forest Green activated a120k realise clause for Southend’s 28 year old forward Cardwell last week. That has made me wonder what some of our squad might be worth to our competitors.

I really thought Bohannon was going to be an excellent No.3, but I have lots of doubts if the openers haven’t got through twenty overs.
We seem a million miles away from that team picks itself, even allowing for the seamer v a spinner discussion. Living in Essex where the leagues structure is not as strong I think we should be a solid side every year. Disappointed.
