Our rivals business

Absolutely right. Getting this squad (not starting eleven) to mid table half way through the season was more than could be expected and why I defended him to that point, even though the football was often dull.

Stubbornly persisting with him after it was clear he had lost the players was a huge mistake and will continue to be so until he goes.

Matt Grimes : An in-depth look into the reasons why ?
at 12:11 5 Feb 2025

Completely agree. He was one of the few players who would have had the option to move to another Championship side and get more money. I’m fairly confident we’d have seen others doing similar if there was interest in them.

I’m sure Darling is another, but it makes sense for him to sit tight for a few months.

Whatever he said on Twitter, Williams needs to leave before we stagnate any more.

Agree with you to a point. Levein and Kaplans nationality isn’t the issue, the fact they crippled our club is. The ‘Yankee’ nonsense isn’t at all necessary.

Coleman has money in the bank for seeing those two off and attracting serious investment, but the jury is very much out based on the transfer window and his handling (or otherwise) of the Luke Williams situation.

Swansea City in absolute joke mode after deadline day
at 12:02 4 Feb 2025

On the pitch at least, it has echoes of our final season in the PL where we dragged ourselves away from the relegation zone under Carvahal and looked fairly secure quite deep into the season.

Then we went on the kind of run we’re on now, losing every game with abject performances and got sucked back into it.

For us to avoid relegation, either O’Brien is going to have to be one hell or a player or Williams needs to go. Yesterday won’t have helped squad morale, which already looks at rock bottom.

From his point of view

Bigger club
Better players
Better manager with no uncertainty about his future
Bigger fan base
More chance of promotion in the next few seasons

I can accept getting outmuscled by Norwich. What I can’t take is leaving it until deadline day and putting all our eggs in one basket. This will happen time and time again with that strategy.

Yes, but that’s not the point you made. It was about the worst parts of Swansea, not the best.

There’s not a single area in Swansea I would feel unsafe in. I couldn’t say the same for Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham etc.

And on the vibrant city point, he’s gone to Norwich.

He needs to separate the football and the business sides and get someone in to cover the part he can’t do.

Successful leaders get good people with complimentary skill sets around them.

He may be running the business side well, but he’s failed embarrassingly and damagingly in transfer windows under Levein and Kaplan and now under his own steam.

I’m the same. I did join in yesterday, but only at the end and it was very much directed at Luke Williams.

I’ll always get behind the players during the game, but I don’t think they’d take the booing to heart. They’ve effectively done the same thing by dropping the effort since he lost the dressing room

Would have been a lot louder if people hadn’t left before the end in big numbers. Can’t bland them, at least they showed up

Ok in the first half. The effort was there even if the quality wasn’t and they didn’t seem to know what their roles were individually and collectively. The crowd got behind the team. Coventry fans were up for it and that roused us a bit.

The first, but particularly the second goal killed the atmosphere dead. We all knew it was over by half time.

The East was half empty by the end. There were fairly loud boos from those still there. Williams went straight down the tunnel.

If you play 5 at the back, the fullbacks are the wingers. They attack and defend, meaning you can play 3 in midfield and either two up front, or a Cullen type drifting between the midfield and the striker.

Yesterday was just nonsense. Attacking full backs and wingers, which meant we had two in the middle and Cullen caught between helping the midfield or getting between the wingers. We somehow managed to outnumber ourselves everywhere apart from on the flanks where the fullbacks and wingers didn’t link up to any real effect.

I’m not surprised the players were confused, it was confusing to watch!

Absolutely. They were trying to get a head start on their markers because they knew they had no support if they did get put through.

Coventry compressed the playing space and we resorted to those ineffective long balls. Even when they were onside, they were up against defenders better in the air and had no one to lay off to when they did win it.

We were just giving them the ball. Atrocious tactics.

Do we really care.Seriously
at 11:21 2 Feb 2025

Yeah, I’d agree. They are good enough to scrape enough points to stay up.

It’s still one of the weakest squads in the league though and I’d guess we have the worst striking options as well as no natural number ten.

Grimes isn’t irreplaceable, but he’s a massive loss until we do actually replace him. No one seemed to know what they were doing yesterday

Vipotnik is rarely a viable option for me. He played half an hour and touched the ball maybe 5 times?

I agree though, the formation he went with made no sense and I can’t see he was expecting anything other than what happened.

Ginelly had a run out at Cardiff but it’s all gone quiet since

I thought that too. They are desperate to survive and if they have identified him as the type of player they need, he’s quite effective.

Play him in a midfield two like we did yesterday and he’ll be a waste of money

Yes exactly. Adding Christie to the back line and playing with two wingers meant we were caught in a no man’s land between being outnumbered in the middle or Cullen dropping back and having no one in between Bianchini and Ronald.

Lampard won’t have an easier game all season.

And Cullen was dropping back into midfield, Fulton and Franco were outnumbered in there, which resulted in us booting balls up to our widemen, who were isolated and easily dealt with.

Agree on his interest. I said it would be hard to adapt the way we played within a week, but it looked like he didn’t even try to.
