I remember watching the Swans in a pre-season friendly at Llanelli once, and was surprised to see Catherine Zeta Jones sitting near me. Wasn't her uncle something to do with Llanelli? |

West Brom were relegated to the Championship in 2021, so surely they still have one season of parachute payments left. |

I think the problem here is that when you see footballers kneeling you think they are advocating for all those things you list, which exist only in your head and nowhere else. This is the message amplified by the extreme right, who will no doubt be delighted to see your posts on here. Presumably, though, the footballers are actually supporting the mission statement on the BLM website ( https://blacklivesmatter.com/about/) which concerns only freedom from violence, discrimination, and fear, and all seems entirely fair and reasonable to me. It certainly doesn't sound very divisive, does it? (assuming you've actually read it, rather than basing your dislike on what Trump and Farage told you to think). I would suggest the solution is that if you don't like kneeling then you don't join in. |

The 'kneel' is meant to express the reasonable sentiment that black lives matter. It's not about anything else, despite whatever conspiracy theories you may have read online, or heard spouted by Farage or Neil Oliver on GB News. It's not about socialism, or de-funding the police, or overturning the current World order. It's simply a means for reasonable people to stand in solidarity with those who have to experience racism on a daily basis. I don't understand how anyone can have a problem with that. |

The name Wales comes from wealas, a Saxon insult meaning foreigner (ironic really, because the Angles and Saxons were the foreigners in Britain, not us!). There can't be many countries that refer to themselves using an insult. If people really don't like using Cymru in the English language, then what about the Latinised form Cambria? | Forum Reply | Will Swansea City go up this season ? Simple YES/NO : With reasons … at 11:45 31 Oct 2022
I don't think we'll go up this season because I don't think we're good enough. But I do think we're going in the right direction under a very good coach. The 2011 squad wasn't significantly better than this squad, but it did have six players - Ash, Leon, Rangel, Sinclair, Allen (2011 version), and Dyer - that were better than what we have now. |

I wasn't suggesting your players are all bad, because that's not true. But with the greatest of respect Ralls, Wintle, Colwill, etc don't have the fear factor that Chopra, Bellamy et al carried. You'd be justified in asking which Swans players carry the 'fear factor' as well, but with the possible exception of Sinclair we've haven't relied on match winning players in the Championship to the same extent that you have over the last 10-15 years. With us it's more about the team, which is why we can get away with having little individual threat. |

10 - 15 years ago they always had the odd decent attacking player you'd be worried about: Chopra, Bothroyd, Bellamy, Whittingham. Nowadays, there's not one player in their squad I'm remotely worried about seeing lining up against us. |

It's the same as when Cooper was here. He did really well with the players he already had, but the recruitment was generally awful. After two years at the club he hadn't made one permanent signing that was a regular in the team. After he left there was a major rebuilding job needed. I know people could blame the owners for not giving him the players he wanted, but there will always be restrictions and good managers will work within them. It's probably a good thing we didn't sneak up under him, just to watch him chuck that amount of money down the drain. |

I always thought Ampadu-du-du to the tune of Agadoo would take some beating as a quality chant. Does anyone know if it's being used for Ethan Ampadu? I don't make it to Wales games anymore. |
| Forum Reply | Gareth Bale to Swansea ? Really ? at 12:19 21 Jun 2022
Even if Bale had no connection whatsoever to either city, this is very much a Cardiff-type signing and very much not a Swansea-type signing. Fans may get excited about signings like these ones, but there are far better ways to run a football club. |

He could make huge amounts of money playing for a season or two in China, Qatar, or the US. He's never struck me as a big enough Cardiff fan to turn that sort of money down just to play for that shower. With the end of their parachute payments, and all their looming financial problems and court case, he'd have to be some sort of super-fan to want to go there. |

Yes, rich Russian owner, otherwise they'd probably still be in the lower leagues. Either they or Posh are the smallest club in this division. |

We nearly signed Henri Lansbury on loan from Arsenal back in our promotion season, but he picked up an injury and the loan was off. Would we have thought he was such a **** if he played for us? |

Cooper was supposed to be the manager, not me! What difference does it make who I think we should have signed!!! I'm just glad that he wasn't given money or we'd probably have spent £10m+ on Woodman and Brewster. If you genuinely think that we improved under Cooper then you and I are never going to agree on anything. Is there anybody decent in our squad who we can point to and say "that was a Cooper signing"? Anyone? I respectfully bow out of this debate..... |

You say he was asking for a striker in Jan, but wasn't given one. We both seem to agree that we weren't bringing in the players we needed under Cooper, but whereas you blame the board I blame Cooper. The fact that we've spent millions in the summer suggests that money wasn't the problem. Was Cooper suggesting any names, other than England youth players out of our budget? The fact remains that after two years in charge, Cooper was still relying on loan signings and players that were here when he arrived. We were NOT progressing under him, and would be struggling now just as much as we are under Martin. |

I'm not disputing that Cooper is a good coach, and has dragged Forest up by the boot laces. My point is that he wasn't bringing in players that were strengthening our team, apart from loan signings, and the football was terrible to watch. It remains to be seen how his signings at Forest will work out. Remember that he didn't need to sign players to win the world cup with England, and maybe a good coach is all he is. As far as saying that getting rid of high earners like Ayew would have benefited Cooper - no way! He relied almost totally on him, and showed no capability to bring in a second striker that knew where the net was. |

There's no way we were improving under Cooper - no way. We may have had more points last season than the season before, but the team was not progressing. With the high earners out of contract, and the loan players going back, we were always heading for a cliff edge in the summer because Cooper just hadn't built anything solid at all. He did an admirable job of nearly squeezing us home with a combination of what he'd inherited and loan signings, but his permanent signings just weren't good enough, didn't fit any clear style of play, and often weren't played because he didn't even want them! We can't compete with most clubs in this division - Forest included - in terms of budget/debt accumulation, so we really need to do things differently; that is, we need a clear, and long-term, style of play, and we need to identify players within our budget that fit that style of play, and sign them permanently. In all those things I have more confidence in Martin than Cooper. |
