The cross to Frey was one of my highlights. I couldn’t see if he looked up before hand but it was the only ball that was going to work given the position that Frey had taken.
Frey gets quite frustrated with his service at times when he takes up good positions but that was right in the unicorn chocolatier’s wheelhouse.
The more possession we have and the less chasing the game we do, appears to correlate with less injuries.
So, as long as we don’t concede the midfield and play as we have done recently, it could well be that we have a better system for managing the players health, fitness and longevity.
If can rotate players around that base and give the subs more time (maybe 30-45mins) to make an impact without making wholesale changes, then I think that’s potentially a good balance for this game.
We also need to avoid conceding an early goal because that also disturbs our karma.
Yeah, Luton reminded me a little of us when we go through a period of being unlucky combined with not very good.
You know they can play better and some of them have proved that at a higher level but they just don’t really turn up and must be looking over their shoulders at the teams below who have games in hand.
As for Rob Edwards, he had that haunted, anxious look about him with some awful body language at times. The cameras zoomed in quite a bit on him.
There’s a common theme of improvement emerging for most of the players, which I would assume is related to the consistency and continuity of good coaching/management.
Morgan appears to have many of the technical ingredients required for a successful career and progress should continue if he stays fit, adds a bit of muscle and improves stamina. Manage him well and the ageing process should take care of the rest.
It also sets the tone for other young players to come through and that rubs off in terms of culture. A great position to be in for once - it’s been a while coming but the knock on effect could be a force multiplier if it continues.
I think if Dunne had matched up with the right sized Luton player and attacked the ball, we’d have been safely into half time.
Could also have just put Frey on him or put him in an area to win the header.
I guess we lose some of that organisation with Cookie out for now but hats off to the last ditch blocking and defending earlier - Steve would have been proud of that.
There’s a great, personal highlights package on the QPR FC WhatsApp channel of Smyth’s contributions against Watford.
You don’t get to see his bra and there’s no gymnastics but there’s plenty of skill, attitude and effort on show. Mix that with some humour on the Watford assist in his post match interview, he’s been great value recently.
