Interesting stats Taken over a series of league fixtures - and as i said earlier - JM could claim that what he's doing is working. Play-off spots don't happen by accident My overall concern is the growth of the club under the new stewardship. We have to get more people through the gates and for them to be become fans, i.e. looking forward to turning up. Our core fanbase remains pretty loyal, but it's not enough and how many of those who may have come along for the first time in a while would've gone away thinking "yeah, that was worth it" even if the enforced changes allowed us to play well for 80 minutes? There's no stats that can tell us that, but when even loyal fans are getting naffed off that speaks volumes |

It's been established that those changes shouldn't have been necessary, had we started the game in the right frame of mind, but we don't - we start every single game in a way that invites the opposition to establish a foothold, and most teams take that opportunity with both hands It may have made for a "spectacle" but the people who turn up aren't mere "spectators" |

"The good passages of play in between become insignificant..." I'd go further. The good passages are testament to the travesty that the manager visits upon his players, the fans and the club, by denying them the opportunity to play to our potential, and witness the furtherance of the Ogden project |

It started at the top of the football pyramid, with teams like Spain in the 00s and at club level, Barcelona and carried on through via the Spanish influence to Pep's teams That then becomes "the standard" to aspire to, and baked into coaching manuals. JM's swallowed it, and gone back for seconds As 442 suggests, the day we stop burdening teams at lower levels of the pyramid with the "rich man's game" can't come soon enough [Post edited 3 Nov 15:01]

No James... it's asking players whose levels of ability aren't quite up to playing those tactics to execute them consistently Whilst similar mistakes in ball control / weight of pass are made even at the highest levels, the further from the highest levels you drop, the more those errors will happen There's nothing difficult to understand here, except that the person responsible for organising the team is unable to face that reality We see the same words repeated in posts (post mortems) week in week out: "hope", "learn", "basics" None of them will change under McNulty. Will he succeed despite these obvious drawbacks? It's possible, but making it more difficult for not just the players but the fans to watch has drained any enthusiasm out of the game |

I fully agree TS You're right, it'll take time to remove/revamp the legacy systems. Fans are right to bring the glitches to everyone's attention What i can't abide is the "I'm alright jack" mentally that sees nothing ever get done |

I voted down the post due to its ignorance of the many issues that've been highlighted When R17ALE posted that he'd managed to get through the system at least he did so with some recognition of the problems others were having [Post edited 30 Oct 14:25]

By symmetry, do you mean Jason Kennedy scoring Darlo's opener against us in the first leg? That's when he first came to our attention, and subsequently an integral part of Hilly's success |

Quote from Sir Jim Ratcliffe (BBC Football website): "The 71-year-old billionaire told BBC Sport "something is wrong with the environment" at United, who won the most recent of their 20 English titles in 2013, but called for patience from supporters. "In the north west, we have two neighbours who are really impressive football clubs. I want to knock them all off their perch," Ratcliffe said. "The short-term issue is we want to get into the Champions League. It's a two-to-three-season challenge to get the organisation and environment right, to get the performances on the field right and win football matches. That involves the design and structure of the organisation being correct. "In the last 11 years, Manchester United have had a lot of coaches and nobody has been very successful in that environment. That says to me there is something wrong with the environment. It is not constructive for me to blame anyone, it's just a fact. My focus is on how I change that environment to get the best out of the coach and squad." |

Great initiative by the club to put this proposal forward, and i can't think of another club whose fight for survival (as the same club...) would be more worthy of being granted the chance to host the new football regulator The only drawback i can see is the aspect of neutrality. I'm not sure the new regulator would wish to be based at a specific football venue |

I really hope so too, and that he's got a direct line to the Ogdens to feed back any of the more salient issues that've cropped up I tuned into the meeting for just a few minutes towards the end. What struck me was his body language, which looked defensive, i.e. arms crossed, slight frown, which no doubt reflected something about what had gone before. I'm sure he's a positive type of guy, but he looked like someone under siege A new main stand would be great, and could increase our capacity (yeah, i know about the empty seats) back beyond 10,000 which i always think of as a minimum for a serious football club, whilst incorporating upgraded commercial facilities. One issue though: light. The side of the pitch that stays frozen whilst other parts of the ground defrost during winter would have to be taken into account, and not made worse. I'm sure some technological solution could be found whereby reflective panelling focused whatever light was available onto that side of the pitch. All at a cost, of course [Post edited 27 Oct 17:35]

Pretty well summed-up My concern is that what we're seeing is all he's got in terms of coaching. It's a "playbook" that he's been given the opportunity to implement: there's nothing beyond that - no learning, nothing intrinsic to himself It only works if the opposition play without any guile [Post edited 27 Oct 12:18]

The midfield and forwards start games in a very static way, due to the "play it unsafe" [TM] philosophy. It's an overall attempt at anti-galvanisation which is anti-sport and subdues the crowd at home to the level of a funeral service at most games. The singing section rightly got praised against Halifax but the reason why the game looked different is due to Halifax taking the game to us, not any change in tactics from the start. Just on that point about player morale: he's put Burger into a position of having to receive the ball under ridiculous pressure and before the game had settled down, destroyed his confidence. He got pulled at half time. Players make the "right noises" when interviewed (what else are they going to do?) but if i was Burger i'd be beyond pissed off I'm sure the players don't walk out onto the pitch with the intention of not taking the game to opponents. When you first start kicking a ball as a kid, you don't practise playing it safe and sideways, you want to "have a go". Talk of the team being "resilient" and "together" like after the Halifax match looks more and more like the players just celebrating having the shackles taken off and being allowed to show what they can do. Shackles imposed by their coach. And then they're accused of not following instructions, ffs! I'm sure the players also think about the effect on fans, especially at long-distance games. If we were losing because we're crap, Dale fans have an acceptance of that - we're used to it, at least the older ones are, and can have a laugh about it. What we're witnessing now is football with no fun, no joy, no spirit from the kick off, then leaving it too late. The tone has been set, McNulty won't, or more likely can't change. Never has a playoff place been witnessed with such lack of enthusiasm, and it comes from the top |

IT infrastructure was listed as part of one of the "work streams" at the first "meet the new board" meeting after the Ogden's took over One of the directors will be leading on this. Might be worth finding out who it is (may be on the OS?) and informing them Could also be it's already known about (mention of the club trying to sort it out) but since this kind of thing impacts massively on growing the fanbase, some feedback would be useful on how and when it's likely to be resolved |

Absolutely right TS, and it's about empowering staff to do a great job rather than dictating and using the place as a little empire. The sad lives of those who thought they could use Dale as a way of bigging themselves up have been laid out before us Some are still clinging on. They're way out of their depth in the new regime, and it's only a matter of time before their attitudes and incompetence are found out [Post edited 25 Oct 18:52]

Agreed. Expect the budget for the turn of the year will have been set, perhaps during the summer. I see no need to spend beyond that, and that's very much the model the Ogden's specified when taking control of our financial structure If that includes the possibility of spending say, £100k on a proven striker, all well and good but if that doesn't happen the very last thing i want to hear is a moan about "lack of ambition" What's more likely to happen is the addition of two or three players who might improve us, and that's what the majority of clubs will be looking to do. Given the signings JM has made, there's reason to be optimistic on that score, even as he seriously needs to revise his ideas about how to get a consistent tune out of decent players. Missing so many opportunities to attract more people through the gates at home means the budget he's got to play with won't be increasing any time soon [Post edited 23 Oct 13:59]
