Just seen Martins comment, post match where he said, "Someone had a job to do...they didn't"
I am on hols and didn't;t get to the game. I did see the 2nd half on a stream, but can't think who he was referring to ? Any idea ?

I always hope England win, but must admit watching them is so tedious, whether under Carsley or Southgate.

He totally messed up. Introducing a formation that they only tried for 20 minutes, suggests he thought this game would be a walk in the park.

I agree his stats are not brilliant based on game time to date. However, I don't recall him getting any sort of service in the games he played and we didn't;t play to his strengths. We could have had Haarland up front and it wouldn't have made any difference given how we set up and play.
it's not as if he is going to take the place of an inform striker, so I hope he does get a chance. |

He certainly made an effort and showed some nice touches and movement.
I would like to see him be given a chance. My fear is that he would be left up front on his own, with no service while we mess around in the middle and back. |

How many times have you seen McCarthy play ? Guessing you missed the Newcastle game or the number of times in recent seasons he was beaten at the near post and from distance.

Been a few moments where we have messed around again and given ball away unnessaily, but can't fault the effort in 2nd half.
Good to see tall Paul out there. Looks a handful up front.
Just as type - 3-1. Sugawara screws up again in penalty box giving ball away. I like him, but he has been a liability today. Time to rest him. Frustrating as he was about to be replaced by Taylor. [Post edited 5 Oct 16:50]

I don't think loyalty comes into it. Stephens has had contracts at Saints that far exceed his ability, so he was never going to go anywhere.
I am no fan of Martin, but fail to see how he has been hung out to dry by the Manager. After all Stephens is one of RM's favourites. The negative response since Stephens got sent off is all of his own making. [Post edited 2 Oct 18:12]

He has definitely raised his media profile since getting paid from Chelsea. Not sure I read too much into him being a pundit for our game, however, It was noticeable how he went very easy on any criticism of Saints.
I would have him at Saints, but still have some reservations.
He did a good job at Brighton but was blessed with some very good players. His time at Chelsea was a nightmare, and makes some compelling arguments for why it went wrong at Chelsea. However, he had a lot of very good players at Chelsea and failed to get the results their squad should have delivered. That was down to him. |

I think this is a valid point and I still believe many of this squad are good players. It is down to how we set up and style of play.
It doesn't really matter who we have up front if there is no service, and the club are happy to play around with the ball in our own half creating nothing, and with an obsession with possession stats. [Post edited 2 Oct 7:36]
