Cycling is the obvious example of athletes competing for days on end. Hundreds of kilomotres very day, sometimes for three weeks on end. So athletes are capable of incredible feats. Footballers in our division play twice a week, once at the weekend and once midweek. QPR players play 46-50 games from August through to early May, so it's actually far less than twice a week over the season. I have no knowledge of sports science, but QPR's training surely has to include game-based training as part of most sessions, and those have to be played at high intensity otherwise you're not training for the real thing. So, to play (or to be available to play) those 46-50 games with added pre-season games and inter-squad games and training (short) games our players are probably hitting the red zone 120 times a year. That's maybe as much as cycling. Plus, for most of the peleton cycling is more of an endurance sport than a speed sport, so muscle injuries don't seem to be as much of a concern for them as they are for footballers. For us, it's about avoiding muscle injuries, and allowing enough time to do pre and post-match gym/pool recovery/injury avoidance sessions. I have no doubt that our sports science people are all over it, and I do try to understand it. But I still genuinely can't figure how Barry Bannan is 103 years old, and never needs to be rested, whereas we need to throw two cup competitions every year so we can finish mid-table in Division 2. |

I can't figure it, Kensal. We're 6 points (maybe 7 with goal difference) off the playoffs. We're 9 points (maybe 10 with goal difference) off relegation. But they think we're twice as likely to be relegated as finishing in the Top 6. Maybe the bookies are getting heavy money on the Top 6. Maybe they think they'll spend heavily this month. Maybe they think their squads are bigger and able to withstand injuries. All of those things would be vaild, but put it all together and - while I think we're most likely to stay in this division - are we really twice as likely to be relegated as finish Top 6? Seems skewed to me. |

Glad it's a good read, Counsellor. Having thought about it, I'm still going to give it a miss but thanks for the recommendation anyway. |

"I do miss working in smaller businesses in some ways though that comes with its own challenge. Megalomaniac owners, zero cash flow, cutting corners often etc. but you do get to the end of the week usually feeling like you’ve actually achieved something." Me too, Watford, and I never thought I'd say that. |

"...but it feels to me with the internal company calls these days everything (zooms calls, emails etc) is decision by committee (ten million people getting "looped in" on every fkin email) as no one wants to make a decision themselves about anything for fear of accountability even if it is in fact their job to actually make a fking decision." Similar with me. It's unreal! I also think that a lot of people are consultants hiring themselves out so an hour's zoom call with an hour's imaginary prep for the zoom call is two hours they can charge. |

Teams/Zoom Meetings Doing a lot of work with Continental Europeans at the moment. Their addiction to monster online meetings kills all speed and progress. You phone someone, they don't answer, you leave a message, they don't answer, you email them telling them you want to talk to them on a phone, they email back suggesting a Teams Meeting with 18 other people which will last an hour. You just wanted a 30-second chat. How does anything get done? |

Well, the report says that a Rangers supporter was abused. If so, best wishes and much love to that Ranger, and to that poster if you happen to be on here. |

I haven't. I admire his intelligence, and liked that he was different and unapologetic about it, but I have read comments from him in later years that I thought excused the systemic racism at his club and also the behaviour of John Terry. |

That's where I am. Have to want it, and whether I like aspects of Division 1 or not, it is Division 1 and it is success, so yes please. I absolutely would not trust the present ownership to be prudent if we did go up, though, and would worry that they'd endanger us with a supermarket sweep. |
