I am not sure what to make of him.
On the one hand, he's pacy, prepared to get stuck into a row with the opposition defence (especially as a second half sub), has already got a couple of goals, is young enough to have a good career here and still get a big move etc. And above all that, he's one of our Dev Squad successes, in as much as he's hit the First Team and is making a contribution most weeks. Big thumbs up from me.
On the other hand, however, his control and first touch just aren't consistent enough (which I put down to experience), he gives away some iffy fouls and, Hull City aside, he seems on a different frequency to the rest of the team at times. To be fair, so was Yang yesterday, so it's definitely not just him.
Now, I actually like Alfie, I want him to succeed, but I'm pretty conflicted about where he is currently. Is it that he is being used incorrectly, his age / experience or is he not what I'm hoping for? I don't think he's the messiah buy I'm not convinced he's just a naughty boy either.

Highly likeable young man, but nowhere near good enough at the moment. 22 next month.
However, second to none in his ability to hold out his hands questioningly while asking 'what?'. Getting penalised for what he hasn't done because of all the things he has done.

He was superb at Hull. He and Saito in different ways totally turned that game from a dreadful 0-0 or 1-0 defeat into a 2-0 lead and relatively comfortable win. Great when he came on against Luton. Lovely finish at Miiiillll.
Chasing a game against a team sitting deep he’s not up to it IMO but there’s a player there. If we had capable and mostly available forwards he’d be getting much needed loan time so he’s getting 15 mins here and there mainly which isn’t helping him. | | | |

He has less than 50 senior appearances, most of which are subs. Definitely want ourselves in a position next season where we can afford to get him out on loan just to learn the game, learn his body, learn CONTROL. At the most he runs around like a beyblade - great for a 20 minute sub but I think half the time he takes poor touches and makes silly decisions because he's gassed.
I watch Harrogate a lot (up yours Mark Hughes). they could use a striker like him, although i'm sure the club would prefer somewhere closer like Gillingham or whatever. If he does well enough in League 2 maybe we persuade Orient he's the next Charlie Kelman... |  |

He's a prospect playing for a lower half Championship club.

He was up against a solid top Champ defender in Bartley. And he got dominated.
However, despite that, he tried, and it was just not his day. Nothing came off. Hopefully, he will learn from that and get better.
Also, he is a forward who plays the channels. But he could not do that as we had plenty of wingers on, so he was forced into the middle against Bartley, who was all over that. Taking lumbering defenders down the wing is Lloyd's asset, but he was unable to do that in this game.
I am not convinced either, but Smyth, when he came back, was just okay. As we have seen, Smyth developed to become a decent winger in this league, nothing amazing, but decent. So, there is time for Lloyd, too.
As we have seen with Armstrong, though, if you don't improve, then we shall sell you. And it's probably the correct decision at the time. |  |

Just reality, I think. He must have spent at least ten years being trained either at an academy or in a pro setup so if he hasn't got the basics by now, when will he?
Experience in competitive games is obviously very important, but compare to Morgan who's come straight in to Championship football from an academy and already looks the part. |  |

Sometimes he does OK and sometimes he doesn't. Not having this stuff he is 'only' 22.....he is 22 and should be a lot more consistent and generally better if he is going to be any good.
Some of the fouls he gives away and then nods his head are rather silly - the foul on the keeper yesterday was stupid and he nods his head!!!! His ball control is not very good. Should have done better a couple of times when goal bound. I am changing my mind about him the more I see him play.

I don't think you're being harsh Danny.
Like most of us I really like the lad but his touch and control are far too inconsistent for this level. Sadly at 22 they are unlikely to improve enough for him to have a career this high up the league ladder.
I really hope he makes it but the Championship is getting more and more technical. The battering ram sub is fun on occasion but it's probably not enough. |  | | |
