In February, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he was prepared to send long-range missiles to Ukraine, and the British government opened a bidding process for their procurement.
"Together we must help Ukraine to shield its cities from Russian bombs and Iranian drones," Mr Sunak said then. "That's why the United Kingdom will be the first country to give Ukraine longer-range weapons."
On Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow would take an "appropriate" military response to any British-supplied Storm Shadow weapons used by Ukrainian forces.
The Storm Shadow missile has been operated by both British and French air forces and has been used previously in the Gulf, Iraq and Libya.
The British-supplied missiles can only be fired by aircraft, but French missiles can be fired from ships and submarines.

Difficult one to call, but on the balance of things I’m more inclined to send the missiles than to with old them. I’d only send them on the understanding they are to be used at targets in Ukraine only. It’s a difficult one to call. Be interesting to see how they’re going to launch them.

Was not allegedly but a fact a radio active toxin and nerve agent were use by Russia to kill two Russian citizens opposed to Putin. One succeded the other did not kill its intended victim but did kill an a UK citizen. | |

How best to end the killing quickly…?
This action might be seen as an escalation.
I guess it has full NATO backing.

It’s difficult to know what’s best, but I feel we have to support the Ukraine.
Over the last 30 plus years we’ve seen increasing levels of aggression from Russia and a lot of stuff has been written about them wanting to extend their influence back to more of what it looked like in the old Soviet Union days. They’ve gone in to Chechnya twice, Georgia, they’ve provoked other conflicts and been involved in Syria, the Wagner group are active in Mali, CAR, Sudan and other places and we’ve seen the use polonium and novichok in the U.K.
Russia is a big country, it’s got about 150 million people and if it subjugates Ukraine you can add another 35 to 40 million. There’s been attempts to destabilise Moldova and I date say politicians elsewhere have been bought off. If the Russians are intent on expanding, at some point someone’s going to have to do something.
Let’s hope common sense can prevail and a last peace can be secured. | | | |

Her Majesties government persuaded Ukraine to hand over its nuclear missiles to Russian back when the Soviet empire collapsed and promised to help Ukraine h keep it independence and safety once the missiles were handed over. It is a UK obligation.

Says nothing about arming Ukraine with long range missiles when no other country has.
Of course, the uk should be part of an international alliance that supports Ukraine
But I am not yet convinced that our latest actions will not be viewed as a unilateral escalation.
As i said, lets hope our top brass military know what they are doing. | |
