Local resident Sharon freeguard said she was awoken by a terrific banging. We’re happy for you Sharon, but there’s no need to brag, just tell us about the steelworks.
The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

She used to be the Headteacher when I taught in Pennard. She is retired now.
So sad to see such an explosion, thank goodness no one was killed.
Very proud to be voted Planet Swans Poster of the Year 2017 by my fellow posters. Especially on a site that nearly had 20 million impressions last year.

Somebody has put on Facebook it was in front of the CES, I always used to fear that, when I worked there.
A few close misses in the past
It was by the fire station, that has taken the brunt of the explosion. Although it does look like that the windows in the CES have all been blown out.
Lucky it happened at the time that it did, if it happened through the day, especially at shift change then there would undoubtedly been numerous fatalities.
I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.
There is some footage doing the rounds on social media taken via a dash cam on the flyover. To say that this was a large explosion is an understatement and based on the footage alone it seems miraculous that nobody was fatally wounded. Best wishes and a speedy return to health for all of those involved. It’s now over to the H&S teams to flush out what lessons need to be learned from this.

Yes seen the pictures, it's toppled over with the spout facing the fire station, damage to front of the CES, boys were sent home for the day
You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game
Must have been the only person in port talbot who didn't hear it slept right through it but then again living in the land of the moving curtains the mountains perhaps muffled the noise.

It hasn't got a very good safety record
Some bloke I worked with drove a lorry with the tipper still up into overhead pipework a few weeks back. That was unreported but he's broken his back in two places and was in a coma for a few days.

It's the safest steelworks in Europe and only an Australian plant beats it worldwide
Steelworks are a dangerous place I know that myself after 28 years service and been burned ending up in St Lawrence hospital in early 90s
Whilst the works is massively safer than what it was 20 years ago, please do not believe their published injury / accident figures.
Tata are absolutely terrible at reporting true accident figures, and what they do to try and keep the figures down is disgusting. Only today i have had a blazing row with the safety department over this. They are the biggest hypocrites I've ever come across in industry.
