Has there ever been a poorer election campaign? I'm trying to think of a more incompetent, awful, pitiful effort. A year of saying that you won't call an early election. Then you do after a budget u turn. Then you do another u turn in the middle of the campaign. All the while you refuse to take part in the televised debate. The election - more votes, more seats.
I'm being slightly contrary here because obviously it was a fcking disaster for her but the tories did still 'win' and Labour finished second.

Don't see how you can call this a win in any sense. She didn't win more seats, she lost seats, lost her majority, lost on what she called the election for in the first place: a mandate to go into the Brexit negotiations with a strong hand and majority, lost all credibility, lost the confidence of her party, lost on policies and ceded a huge amount of ground to a Labour party she thought was on the ropes and instead produced the greatest gains in post-war history. Even playing devil's advocate, you have to call that a loss!

North, a letter in the paper today sums up the situation perfectly. Think of the election as the first leg of a European Cup tie. The Tories, who hold the cup are expected to win the home first leg six nil even with half of their first team out. The manage with an appalling inept display to lose it. They are still champions, but they are in terrible trouble for the second leg!
P.S. If the DUP ask for cash to fund stuff in Ulster do you think May might miraculously find the Magic Money Tree? | | | |

Heh, Heh. I do think, however, his intelligence is somewhat underestimated.
More importantly, he spots the mood. To go for the Leave side was a huge gamble on his part but he called it right. To beat any Labour politician in London also takes some doing.

Yes but they didnt lose the first leg , they won it with a dodgy last minute goal despite being dire .
