Pompey have extended midfielder Louis Thompson’s contract - a day after doing the same for Marcus Harness.
Boss Danny Cowley has said he is delighted to secure two of last season's team and says he wants to keep as many of the group together as he can.
Thompson, 27, arrived at Fratton Park last summer after leaving Norwich and made 38 appearances in the season just finished.
Cowley told the Pompey website: 'We are really pleased to be able to extend Louis’ time with Portsmouth Football Club. As the season unfolded, we saw his fitness develop and his levels of performance continue to grow and grow.
'He adapted his role to benefit the team, giving us more defensive qualities, and is outstanding at putting out fires. But, importantly, Louis also has the technical abilities required to then be able to start our counter-attacks.'
Yesterday Pompey said they had taken up the option of extending Marcus Harness’ contract with the club. The 26-year-old has made 134 appearances since joining from Burton in the summer of 2019.
Cowley told the website: 'We want to keep together as many of the group that finished the season as possible. In all of the successful teams I’ve worked with in the past, continuity has been a major factor in that.
'We’re delighted to exercise the option for Marcus — and it was always going to be something that we took up. He’s a key player in our team and has brought goals and assists, while he’s equally adept in a number of attacking positions.
'We know that Marcus has the pace, athleticism and end product to shine beyond this level and he’s a real asset for our club.'
