Jurgen Klinsmann For Saints !!!
Wednesday, 22nd Jun 2016 18:34

Suddenly from nowhere a shock name has shot to the top of the bookies tables, pushing Manuel Pellegrini into second place.

A few hours ago you could not get evens on Manuel Pellegrini to take over as Saints manager, then suddenly Jurgen Klinsmann came in from out of the blue and is now installed as bookies favourite with the best price available being 6/4 on the German taking over.

Meanwhile Pellegrini's own odds have become more attractive and 5/1 is attainable at a couple of the on line bookmakers if you still fancy hi.

So why has suddenly Klinsmann shot into the reckoning, as I have said this market falls into the fun betting and it does not take much to bring the odds down, or of course someone could have heard a whisper.

Klinsmann is of course still head coach for the USA International side a post he has held since the summer of 2011.

At club level he has little experience, before taking over the USA he had a season at Bayern Munich, or I should say almost a season as he was sacked with 5 games to go.

Before that he had two seasons as head coach of Germany tking them to the World Cup semi finals on home soil in 2006 before declining to renew his contract and subsequently taking two years out of the game.

A very left field choice if Saints do go for him and not one that will please the fans at least not initially.

Yeah you could have got 75/1 at lunch time. Mental stuff. I was reading up on him to remember what he's done manager wise and he's a bit of a controversial character. He likes to focus on youth, which I know would appeal to a section of our fans. Also has experience at club level with Bayern Munich and international experience with Germany and the US. Oh reflection wouldn't be a bad fit. Played and managed at top clubs.

I hope you are right Sonic. I don't like this. He has shot in on the basis of no rumours that I can find. If he shortens further this could well be the final 'insider' money. I will be extremely disappointed if it is true. This would be a long way below the exciting appointment we were hoping for.

I'm starting to think we will go it alone next season. maybe, LR is planning to sky plus what Gary Lineker & co have to say about us on MOTD and act using the the scientific formula of what would Jermain Jenas do?

Southampton as a club are very 'Departmentalised' in the fact that there is a team in place to scout and in fact sign the players, another team to coach/train the team and a Manager to above all manage the players, motivate them and choose the team... I think wouod be a good appointment, Kilimsmann has years of experience motivating a team of players and getting results... He doesn't need to sign players and therefore an international manager would suit imo...

Great player would be disapointed if he became our manager especially
After putting a wad on Pellegrini after my source said it was a done deal 😂

Perhaps Klinsmann is favourite because the bookies think that Pelligrini is going to be the Russia manager.

You're all mental! I cannot believe that anyone could prefer Pellegrini over Klinsmann. When I first saw it on another site I was surprised and excited and if it comes off the board ill have come up smelling of roses - again. I also can't see why Nick says that it would not please the fans. It would certainly please this fan.

Sky Bet has him at 1/2 now.

Klinsmann would be an exciting choice. Plenty of experience and a name that would attract top players to St Mary's. He always integrates young players to into his team's too.

As long we don't appoint Kelvin Davies as player manager I'll be happy .

This would be a great piece of business , after MoPo goes to Barca or some other European giant Klinsman can go straight to Spurs (provided he has proved himself at premiership level)

Agree with WanderingSaint, there are more fans that wold be happy than you think!! Have nothing against Pellegrini but just can not get excited about it and as already stated just do not think he will work out for us. Klinsmann yes there are boxes he does not tick but no more than MoPo when he arrived, but like someone else said likely to move on iin a few years if he did well as oppose to Pellegrini. Tricky one but a bit like me voting in or out today!!!!
