| News Comment | Southampton V Everton The Verdict at 17:26:56
Paper and cracks come to mind. We are a poor side with only a few players good enough at this level. We were lucky to win this game and are still nailed on for relegation unless we get a new manager with a new approach that makes the most of the good players we do have. It is nice tho to have a few days without the cloud of defeat hanging above. I would love to be proved wrong but suspect this will be the only win between now and Xmas. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Manchester City The Verdict at 11:31:25
A one nil defeat is flattering. If they had been a bit sharper it could easily have been four or five and at times our passing at the back looked good but was in fact dicing with death. No team is going to win many matches with a defense like ours and Martin (lovely guy tho he is) doesn't have the ability to improve that. Owners need to bring in someone who can get us organised or we will be so far adrift by Xmas even eleven points will be beyond us. |
| News Comment | Kyle Walker Peters Giving Russell Martin A Dilemma at 08:55:12
He's been a good servant but football is football (or shoulfd I say fitbah as I've just moved to Scotland). Each game has to be taken on it's merits and I feel Taylor and Sugawara played well and fit our style of play. Personally I would play Taylor on the left, Sugawara on the right, play KWP right midfield and give Dibbling a free role a bit like LeTiss under Alan Ball. Out on the left I feel it is too easy for Dibling to drift out of the game. |
| News Comment | It's Official Adam Lallana Returns To Southampton at 11:18:12
My memory of his leaving wasn't a bitter one like you seem to have Nick. He tried to do it in the right way but as usual the media got up to their tricks. He gave us great service and deserved to be a legend and I am very happy to have him back as he will bring much needed experience as well as more on the pitch than some suspect. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Liverpool The FA Cup Verdict at 11:08:00
Don't agree with the idea that this game was somehow just an irritation we could have done without. They had injury problems and we had a chance to progress in the cup and a payday at Manure. We aren't going to get automatic promotion because we aren't good enough so this was a chance to do somethting really positive for the fans and the players. On the game our finishing has been woeful all season and this just continued. They need to get in some shooting practice that avoids hitting the keepr. Also making the most of good positions is often scuppered by our players being selfish and not looking for players in better positions or offloading the ball sooner. Mara in particular is often guilty of this. The game should have been over by half time because with a 2 or 3 goal lead we could have shut up shop and seen the rest of the game out. As far as I am concerned this was a big opportunity missed! |
| News Comment | Tall Paul Heading From Southampton To Turkey at 10:54:21
We bought him then didn't get any crosses in or play to his strengths. Just another part of what was one of the most mis managed badly judged poorly organised seasons I have ever seen as a Saints fan. Good luck Paul hope things work out well! |
| News Comment | Does Kamaldeen Sulemana Have A Part To Play In Southampton's Season at 11:35:36
Footballers even at this level are obscenely overpaid and not sure if it is the issue but if he or any other player doesn't do what they get paid for then they should have their wages cut. When times are hard for many of us they should be grateful for what they have and knuckle down and get on with it! Rant over! |
| News Comment | Southampton At Plymouth Argyle The Preview at 19:52:11
Cant see Stephens moving. How about Doyle in midfileld. If Adams out I would play Mara or Ballard. Good time to give a few youngsters a chance. Maybe 3 at back with Lyanco |
| News Comment | Southampton Need The Rumours To Stop And Serious Offers To Come In at 19:48:09
JWP coming to the end of his career? He is 28 and age Don Revie thought was the peak for combining fitness with experience. The fact that his game isn't based on pace, I could see him in the Premier League till he's 35. On the transfers front I just think you pick your best team for each game from the players available and if someone doesn't want to play then they are unprofessional and should be called out in public. Some of these overpaid tw...ts should get a kick up the arse and told to do what they are paid for. Then if we are offered a fair amount fine ship em out! |
| News Comment | Southampton V Fulham The Verdict at 11:53:39
Been a mess all season. Something wrong at the core. I wonder if SR realised they had overcooked things with a massive overbloated squad on high wages and so the best thing to do is get relegated, dump most of that squad to free up wages as well as pulling in a substantial amount of transfer income and start again. The match itself was a carbon copy of most games this season with a reasonable start followed by poor defending, heads dropping and game over. Considering most of the 1st team squad will I think leave I would build the team around Lyanco as captain with an experienced old head beside him, keep Bree at right back and Perraud at left back, midfield bring in Doyle to play alongside JWP (I think he will stay), up front I would play Tall Paul if he is willing to stay and support him with Ballard, Armstrongs and Sulemana if he'll stay. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Bournemouth The Verdict at 11:15:12
I have seen some poor Saints sides over the years and this has to rank with the worst. Three managers who every game seem to make at least a couple of odd choices in their team selections. SO many games where we have looked tactically inept it makes you wonder if the plan is to lose as many games as possible and get relegated. Realistically we are now down so I wish Selles would do something a bit different and try Tall Paul from the start with some speedsters around him and keep getting the ball in the box. Or how about bringing in some of our talented yougster to get some game time. Can't be any worse than just repeating the same old failing ideas over and over again. What is it they can't see that every Saints fan over the age of 5 can? |
| News Comment | Southampton At Arsenal The Verdict at 13:11:42
A good point but could have been more if right decisions made by management. If you take off a player every time he's booked you'd end up with a strange lineup. Thought Walcott and Alcaraz worked well on the break and that could have continued. Lavia should have stayed on and bringing on Big Paul was a mistake as someone like Dnepro would have done a better job of harrying and more threat on the break. Ref was poor and inconsistent and why he ignored push on Kamaldene at end I'll never know. We were a bit unlucky with the the 2 quick goals as the ball fell well for them but as usual for most og the game our defensive marking was poor and the way we stand off them when they had the ball wide gave them too much time to cross or play the ball into the box. Don't feel anything will change against Ballmouth and we will revert to being rubbish tho hope they prove me wrong and we have turned a corner. Suspect not tho! |
| News Comment | Southampton V Crystal Palace The Verdict at 12:30:14
Also just a quickie but what the hell were we doing at corners with lot's of faffing around before JWP took it anyway. Looked like time wasting but surely not. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Crystal Palace The Verdict at 11:52:55
It was just more of the same. All season we have had 3 managers who have mystified with their line up choices and tactics. We often look OKish in the first half but not great. The opposition then adjust and we fail to adapt. We have no chance unless something radical is tried. I would stick the Big Guy up front and surround him with 3 fast forwards including Ballard and keep getting balls in the box either down the wings with some players who can actually cross the thing. Bring back Lyanco to scare the hell out of our players and get them fighting. Drop Bazunu and put Armstrong in goal. |
| News Comment | Southampton at West Ham United The Verdict at 13:05:06
The reality is we are not good enough at this level. There are a few reasons for this. 1) Our recruitment of palyers has been poor with too many inexperienced youngsters and players no more than average at this level 2) All 3 of our managers have made poor decisions on a regular basis both in tactics for the game and the inability to change it quickly enough when it isn't working 3) The choices of players and the expectation of what they should do on the pitch has been weak with strange choices almost for every match. None of the managers seem to know their best lineup and stick with it 4) By having an enormous first team squad it has stiffled the chances for players like Ballard and Doyle to get a go in the team. I would do that now as there is nothing more to lose with the way we are currently playing. I can't see us escaping relegation now unless there is something radical from the management team. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Brentford The Verdict at 22:06:05
OK here is an idea to chuck in the mix. How about make JWP player manager with a couple of old pros like Big Sam and Dean Smith to assist? |
| News Comment | Ralph Hasenhuttl An Appreciation at 10:13:25
I think Nick you have a bit of a bee in your bonnet about Saints fans not liking Ralph or being disrespectfull towards him. All the Saints fans I know liked him but felt he wasn't quite up to the job with his baffling team choices and occasional tactical failures. Nothing personal but way too many times when he got it wrong. |
| News Comment | Southampton Sack Ralph Hasenhuttl at 10:08:22
I think most Saints fans thought he was a decent bloke but many of us were just baffled by his tactics at times and his team selections on a regular basis. The feeling that it is good he has left is not personal but we all knew it was coming with the failure this season added to the problems before that. Wish him good luck for the future but now hopefully we can get a manager who can do a better job of organising the defense and making the most of the players we have. |
| News Comment | Southampton V Leeds United The Verdict at 19:07:37
Sense of frustration with the manager and coaching team continues. In pre season we played 3 at the back and it clearly didn't work. Against Spurs we played 3 at the back and it clearly didn't work. Against Leeds we played 3 at the back and it clearly didn't work. Finally they go to a back 4 and we look like a different team. When we play 3 at the back we look like a disorganised shambles for whatever reason and sit too deep, don't have enough bite in midfield and virtually nothing up front. Change to 4 4 2 or 4 2 2 2 and we play further up the pitch and are more proactive. 3 at the back and everyone seems to be looking around expecting someone else to be doing the job required. Bazunu looks good. KWP Kotchap Salisu (or a new signing) and Perraud in defence, Adams and A.nother up front and 4 from any 10 in midfield. I also feel JWP isn't a captain and isn't indispensible because his corners and free kicks have been poor for a while now. |
