With the return of Kane Vincent-Young this week it got me to thinking of successful returnees to Col U, and unsuccessful ones too. When it comes to returnees who comes to mind for you? For me they have to have been a Col U player, not a loanee, who left to join another club and then re-joined at a later date. I'll kick off with Steve McGavin. Made 70 appearances between 1992 and 1994 scoring 19 goals. Left for Birmingham and returned via Wycombe, Southend and Northampton in 1999. Went on to make another 80+ appearances scoring 19 times including two in the famous 5-4 victory over Bristol Rovers. Was such at classy player for us. His son, Brett, was at Ipswich for a while and is having a very good season for Yeovil in the National League this season. |

I guess they had to plan and recruit as if he were going. He may not be back from his latest injury for a while anyway so in that respect we're not carrying an extra player. I think a number of the signings in this window have been with one eye on next season as quite a few of them will be out of contract in the summer. Goodliffe was very unfortunate to get that injury when he did. I fully expect him to be back and in the squad, maybe even starting, next season. Maybe we should be thanking Robbie rather than God. |

Closer to automatic promotion than relegation. It's been a while since we've been able to say that in February. 37 points is our best return from our first 28 matches since the 2019/20 season. We're 12 points better off than last season and 10 points better off than the season before. This is actually our fifth best season in the last 13 which doesn't say a lot for the eight worse ones! Also out of our last eight permanent managers Cowley now has the third best record behind McGreal and Bloomfield, marginally. |

A friend of mine who has connections at the club. It was not news I was expecting to hear that's for sure. Whether it actually comes to anything remains to be seen though. |

Matt Macey now has 12 clean sheets in the league which is the most in League Two alongside Wimbledon's Owen Goodman. We only managed five clean sheets last season and 10 in each of the two seasons before that. I know that this isn't all down to Macey and that the whole team has to take a fair amount of credit for this but, despite a few errors, I think Macey has definitely had a positive influence on the defence this season. Let's hope he can get another one tomorrow night. |
