The King's speech?
at 08:36 28 Dec 2024

A weird choice of accompanying photo too...

Dishevelled, bags under eyes look designed to show how hard he is working behind the scenes? Wouldn't have seen our Les look as scruffy! It's how I used to look turning up to work in my 20s before I gave up the drink.

Don't really mind the statement. All largely PR nonsense as noted but I'd rather have it than not Injuries updates are depressing but needed. If they don't get Dunne sorted out there'll be a riot.

Sorry Paal
at 08:18 28 Dec 2024

He does look to have been thoroughly QPR'd doesn't he this season.

I remember being very concerned by his lack of physical stature when he first turned up but he was so tenacious during much of the first half of his time at the club - winning so many headers and snapping into tackles. Absolute shadow of that guy now. A real disgrace we have no viable alternative as has been eloquently stated many times already.

Our defence is looking a bit of a nightmare with Cook and Morrison out for a while.

Ashby Dunne JCS Fox/Paal?

Costs us Dunne as a core attacking threat and he is hugely inferior at CB as we know. Field seemingly the only other one who can cover in there but that means bringing Madsen or Andersen back into midfield and not being able to rest Morgan as will be needed. Glad we've got some points on the board and the teams at the bottom continue to be utterly useless - a big month ahead in January and into Feb with a tougher (on paper) end to the season.

Prediction League - Top At Christmas winner is...
at 11:14 26 Dec 2024

Any awards for the dumbest moment of the year?

Doing atrociously and the only game I went back in and changed my prediction for was the Oxford game - having initially predicted 2-0 with Field as first scorer initially. Just about the only call I've made right all year and I changed it

Varane
at 19:43 23 Dec 2024

Even though Varane is 23 it is only his second real season of first team football looking at his appearances. 39 for Sporting Gijon last year but a bit part player here and there as a youngster so while not young young he is very much still learning and short of his prime. On less than 100 career appearances still

Amazed at his development in a short period of time and excited to see where he goes from here but yeah really beginning to look the part.

He's not the new Alan McDonald by a long shot but...he is the closest we have to him in the current team by far.

Fingers crossed we can give him enough practise catching good crosses on the training pitch!!

Whenever someone directly mentions my username on here it makes me think I really ought to change the same name I've used since joining as a 15yo in the early noughties Rivals days haha.

It's really interesting how different opinions we can all have - and I have a general respect for so many of your opinions.

For me Nardi has been a breath of fresh air in goal. On games played so far looks like the least rick prone keeper we have had in years. A very different keeper to Dieng but really struggling to think of goals that have come about because of his poor ability - beyond perhaps one of the West Brom ones on day one. We've let a lot of goals in but not sure we can place many at his feet.

Looks a genuinely excellenet Champ level keeper to me.

Out Of Contract
at 08:58 20 Dec 2024

I would love to keep Cook purely because as a, not very good, defender myself in previous days I love watching someone who just knows how to do it. Sitting by the goal this year it is genuinely a joy watching his positional play and awareness of when a team mate might be in trouble - and still has ample pace to get across to cover at short notice. It must be doing Morrison's development wonders playing alongside him at the moment - though of course if JCS ever gets fit again you'd ideally be playing him and Morrison as a longer term option.

Not keeping someone like Dunne who provides cover, and one of our bigger attacking threats wouldn't make sense to me. He's a wonderful ambassador for the club compared to some of the eejits that have worn the Hoops.

There's clearly a lot of talent with Kolli and would like to see him stay. Has shown he may have more goal threat than any other forwards who have flattered to deceive in that role over the years. I wouldn't begrudge Chair a move - have felt like that for two years though as he has fully carried the team for extended periods and deserves a chance to play in a better side imo. His moment may have passed however - he seems settled in London and no real desire to move but always thought his game might suit the Spanish league.

Paal - it is a shame how it seems to be working out. We'll miss the Paal before this season - as we saw with Bidwell, don't knock a solid 6 sometimes 7 out of 10 player.

Fox, Colback, Anderson and Frey is a big cheerio from me.

Most dramatic fall
at 08:10 18 Dec 2024

It was quite serious mental health issues with Diakite wasn't it?

Clive did a good piece on him on a match preview last year - not the Daily Mail stuff but witch doctors and general struggles with reality.

Pretty sure someone on here bumped into him at a game at Loftus Road a couple years ago and he said he still comes to watch when he is in London? Strange, strange player.

Friday Night Lights is a sports movie I genuinely enjoyed. The TV series is also pretty decent.

Also thought King Richard was a great film!

Paul Nardi

He looks to be a superb keeper and a great example of the scouting Europe model working.

For my money he is a better keeper on what we have seen then Seny Dieng is. How many mistakes has he made leading to goals this year? Very few. Seny is definitely not a rick-less keeper - and has let a few soft goals in for Boro this year already from what we've seen. I'd only really rank Seny as the better keeper in terms of playing out from the back based on the first few months of the reign of Nardi. His kicking is a little dodgy let's be fair.

6 goals in 84 career appearances to date according to Wiki?

We've got our own strikers that don't score thanks.

The club have an option on Chair's contract so he is effectively under contract to Summer 2026 tbf.

Chair
at 11:56 8 Dec 2024

I don't disagree that Chair goes straight back in the team.

Not so much yesterday but away at Watford there were a few moments where we got great opportunities and I thought that it wouldn't have happened if he'd been on the pitch as it was based on winning the ball and playing quick, incisive balls forward which is not one Ilias's fortes as a player. Of course he'd likely have created other different opportunities had he been playing.

In the current team we do seem to have players (at least in the last two games) who will make those quick darts forward that have been sorely lacking in recent years. It will be interesting to see if he can play a little quicker within this system.

Madsen today
at 11:28 8 Dec 2024

In his ITV interview Jimmy mentioned that a player sat in house house for four hours this week while a plumbing issue was being sorted out - to help him as he couldn't be there with his personal difficulties. Mentioned it was Nicolas that did that so presuming he meant Madsen - which is at least a sign he's a good bloke.

Be interesting if we wound up playing Kolli up top, with Chair, Dembele and Saito behind him at some point this year. Would surely be the shortest ever frontline if it did come about.

He's definitely noticeably quicker over 5-10 yards and getting stuck in a lot more.

Could do without his attempts to play clever flicks in our own half though - get us into trouble more often than not.

Clearly is some talent in there and the best option there. Feel optimistic about him.

I really enjoy watching him - and his lack of end product is rather more to our finishing ability really isn't it.

He's out of contract at Lommel at the end of the season isn't he - so a contractual free for all? I imagine there'll be suitors aplenty but would love him here permanently. Big if re: our staying up in there of course.

Dunno about him being an R but I grew up over the park from Melrose Avenue where the first bunch of his murders were and my parents knew him to say hello from Labour party meetings in the late 70s/early 80s.
