Migration into the UK July 2022 - June 2023 on 22:17 - Nov 29 by Luther27 | We import them to keep up with population increase. Reducing immigration reduces the required number of NHS workers, Carers etc. As for an increasing age in our population…well thanks to COVID and Govt cutbacks and Euthenasia law that’s not going to be a huge problem within 10 years I would have thought. |
We don’t need to increase the population. We need to train our own. It’s quite simple.

It’s so simple that the best minds in Govt over the years haven’t cottoned on to that gem? Why is mass increase in population allowed by our Govt?

Because it's cheaper in the short term. They do jobs we either won't do or can't do. That has to change in most cases, but a government is only looking at the next election and not 20 years down the road.

If Labour think that flooding the country with the great unwashed is a vote winner there's no hope for the rest of us .How could it ever be cheaper ?

I wouldn't care to wash some one else's genitals either and am grateful that some are willing to do so but simple economics dictates that if you flood the market with cheap labour then wages will not rise and by allowing mass immigration only perpetuates the issue. The trouble with politicians as you say they only look in periods of power which suit them not the long term benefits to the country .The whole social care system is broken with my mother currently in hospital awaiting a care package to be formulated before they'll release her back home , she is now a bed blocker .

And that applies to family members who prefer to dump their own kith and kin rate than care for them as a member of the family

I agree. 1000000 a year is a startling number and shows why stopping the boats won't really help in the grand scheme of things and the Rwanda scheme was a non starter.

People like you are so far out of touch with reality that's it's staggering. There is no longer the extended family to look after the sick and infirm. Most have to go out to work or look after their own families. It's harsh, but most families are not like the Waltons

I wouldn’t have quite phrased it like that but certainly it’s far more comes now for families to have both parents out to work, often for longer hours and less pay than our European counterparts. Add into this the practical privatisation of the care industry making in a cash cow for hedge funds (as are children’s homes and SEN schools but that’s a different conversation) and we end up with a perfect storm.

Interesting. Apart from the cobblers about Brexit of course. The doors were thrown wide open by Blair and New Labour. Many of the problems society is dealing with currently can be laid right at Tony's feet. Caveat that it might be AI, but if it is, it's a good one. [Post edited 1 Dec 9:38]

No you wouldnt as you have class, unlike a poster that clearly supports a despot country who has invaded another and who today will be killing its citizens . People like me indeed I stand by every word however. We dump on the old Back in the day, jobs were harder, more physical and time consuming . My own grandmother physically looked after her three brothers in Rodney St shuttling along from Fleet St . No cretin is going to accuse me of being out of touch .

There's a shortage of care staff in this country. There are many vacancies in care. Brits don't want to do the jobs for whatever reasons

How will the shortage of care look like in forty or fifty years time or so when all the millions of people we’ve brought here will need care themselves? We are just kicking the can down the road. Everything shouldn’t be just about GDP and micromanaging the economy for an extra 0.1%.

The thing that should give pause for thought is that these shortages still exist even after we have seen a number equivalent to the population of Wales arrive in the UK in about the last 4 years. It is as though each cohort of immigrants makes a brief contribution to the workforce shortage problem before electing to do something else, and even during the period when they are actively engaged in shortage occupations the shortage is not fully removed. Increasing the volume of immigration even further would not solve the problem because the population to be serviced grows in proportion to the number willing to do the work. This is like an endless conveyor belt of arrivals that never gets to grips with the problem it is supposed to address, and gradually stores up more and more trouble, so that in the long term it will be unsustainable.

They do elect to do something else in most cases. The problem is that, for whatever reason, British people aren't prepared to either work at these jobs long term or build experience and a CV from the bottle up. I don't know if it's laziness, a sense of entitlement or another reason. I've said before I don't understand why the stadium isn't fighting potential staff off for match day posts. To me a steward job seems pretty easy, but a significant minority of them are foreign students. Those foreign students then end up with a British degree and become a valuable human resource and move on to something else.

I know I might sound like a broken record on this one but I’ll go again with it. History (and nature) has shown us time and time again that quality of life seriously and significantly falls with over population and significantly rises in the event of a population decrease. If we have a falling birth rate so what? If the population decreases slightly it’s not the end of the world. This micromanaging of the population and demographics of this country to drive as many people in as possible just for the sake of a few more quid trickling into the economy is insane. It really is.

Only 25% of immigrants work. It costs far more to provide them with free health care, free education than they contribute to the taxpayers. They also put a huge strange on out infrastructure and public services.
