I think it's time for the big switch.

My twitter feed is vile at the moment.

Anyone else switching over?

Poll: Player of the Year (so far)

Not planning on wading through this whole thread, but in case it helps anyone I went onto BlueSky about a year ago, used Twitter less and less, and eventually deleted it.

Generally people are way politer (so far), largely (in opinion of most users) because Blocks are both highly effective and not frowned on. There's no culture of "how rude of you to block me" it''s just: not interested on what you have to say: mute. If you want a fight: block. Result: not many fights.

Also there is no algorithm promoting posts based on the response - you either follow someone or you don't. Posts from people you follow appear in chronological order. So attention seekers aren't rewarded by the App.

At first there were a lot fewer journalists and such-like, so it was harder to get news or comment (but equally, you got more engagement from the ones who did.) That's picked up markedly in the last week and it's putting on users at about a million per day over the last couple of days.

Bluesky numbers are rocketing up. The numbers leaving Twitter are climbing rapidly.

Meanwhile in Palo Alto or wherever that scary prick Musk is based, he's amassing a team of his biggest brains to tackle the biggest existential crisis to 'X'. Item 1 on the agenda: Who the fcuk is Brian McCarthy?

You can bet item 2 is: How much will Bluesky and/or McCarthy cost to buy?

Has anybody ever seen Elon Musk and Brian McCarthy, together, in the same room?!

Thought I'd try an experiment and use 'for you' for a change and see what came up. To my surprise (after reading what's been said in this thread), it was all revelant to what I'm interested in. No porn, no mad, unhinged rants, or any weird stuff, and no ads... just current affairs and sports stories, along with some literature and music....

I'm not exactly sure how algorithms work, but.... šŸ¤”

BlueSky has massively picked up this week. It's not just centrist Dad politicos anymore

The 'starter packs' are great. Perhaps someone could create one for decent QPR content (people like Clive, Finney, Jim Frayling, Dave Mc etc etc).

As I said previously, my Twitter feed is OK. Although looking at the first 10 tweets 2 are adverts for crappy mobile games amongst various football bots and bobs

QPR pod have created a starter pack of QPR supporters here:

But yeah a QPR feed would be great. I'm still not quite sure how these are managed, but I've started following a few on other topics and they are good

I sacked off Twitter. Fk Musk.

I tried the alternatives. They're all shit.

Better off without any of it.

Stick to forums, like it's 2006!

Whilst the platform itself can be a nightmare in its own right, the Championship forum on Reddit is actually a pretty good laugh and is always full of Simpsons and apple crumble memes (for when teams at the top lose and are "crumbling") and actually on the whole has good discussion from fans of all the clubs in the league without it resorting to stupid tribalism that you see on the likes of Facebook.

Currently in the international breaks this year people have been trying to outdo each other in posting Championship tables in a variety of formats and its actually quite funny.

I have. Just not at the same time!

In fact, I bet if we delved deeper, we'll find Elon Musk is the Gaelic spelling of Brian McCarthy.

I enjoy the champo reddit (The "You Got Inced" memes a couple of years ago were stunning) but there's a couple of weirdo QPR posters on there who give me the creeps. Good fun overall though.

My favourite thing to do on there is to tell Americans asking what game to go to to go Millwall in a West Ham shirt

Been on there 3 days and already my timeline is starting to look like old twitter again.

Tweets in chronological order...from accounts I actually follow. No ads, bots or amateur pornstars...

Not difficult is it.

Another example of the ā€˜shittificationā€™ of social media which I think is particularly low is posting false news about celebrity deaths.

I assume the link goes through to some bitcoin salesroom or something. Hereā€™s an example on a Facebook group for people who like drawing in cities.

As the exodus of echo chamberlains continues in their droves over to BlueSky, something tells me that X will be fine as the virtuous big spenders look set to renew their advertising there post Trump's landslide victory:

I sincerely hope the boost to BS gives it a foothold in the social media hierarchy as healthy competition generally improves the consumer's experience, and it's never a good thing for just a few to have a monopoly in any sector. However, judging by the performance with Threads and Mastodon the last time there was 'mass' attempt to abandon X I wouldn't hold my breath.

Itā€™s not just a woke thing.

Loads of huge companies have moved over it seems. Mastercard for example. Hardly the bastion of wokeness there!

Itā€™s not just a political decision. The X/Twitter platform just doesnā€™t deliver for business anymore either.

Weā€™ve just created a profile for our company and itā€™s already being followed by exactly the people we need it to. Our followers on X are fake profiles of beautiful woman.

Well, itā€™s clumping together of like minded people isnā€™t it.

I thought I read somewhere that X hasnā€™t made a profit in ages anyway, long before EM took over. Maybe the whole idea is dying.

Not used X for a few days, got a notification on my phone (notifications were turned off for X so something turned it back on. It was some nasty tweet by nobody I follow about Sadiq Khan. And that is exactly why I've gone, even if you try and keep to your "following" feed it is peppering me with just hate filled stuff. I dont need it, I dont want it.

I work in Digital, I walked away from Facebook 10 years ago because I knew it was tracking me right across my digital footprint, every site I visited, my emails, down to where I was going. Here let me recommend the mother of another child in your kids class. Never asked for it, never would. Absolute liberty.

I know about the psychological cues and tricks Insta, Tik Tok, X and YouTube use the ever escalating extremeness of the algorithm. Someone above says they went on For You and it was all good and clean. Yes it would be if you dont use it, it's designed that way. Maybe you think its good and use it some more, and each time it will start to ramp up, and when it does something will catch your eye, you'll pause watch in disbelief as that is human nature and then it ramps it up again and again. That is what they are designed to do. Make you angry, desensitise and escalate because it keeps you engaged.

Musk has taken this and turned it into a propaganda weapon. I dont want it, I dont want to scroll through all the crap to get to the good.

Social media has made everyone more angry, more conspiratorial, more detached from reality. Blokes have to look like a 1980's body builder to be normal. Woman are injecting all kinds of crap into themselves to look like a filter photo. People have lost sense of what is reality, what is truth. When you step back and look at it, it's nuts!

So what I like about BSky is its Twitter pre Algorithm, you can. have algorithms 1000's of them and if someone wants to go and create one that just does QPR and championship club fan posts they can if they have the skillset. The whole point of it being federated is not to be under the control of the whims of the new oligarchs

It's a tad disappointing that none of the big official accounts have created profiles.

Threads is awful, and yet we have an official QPR account.

St Pauli in Germany have left Twitter completely and now just using Bluesky.

Hopefully it starts something but I doubt it. St Pauli are always a bit different.

Surely there's some software out that that can tap into Twitter, Bluesky and Threads so that the club just needs to post something once and it appears on all 3.
