What is the actual point of this inquiry? To learn lessons? We know the lessons. Don’t have a bunch of incompetent dick heads running the country. We didn’t need an inquiry for that.

Quite simple really,to top up barristers pensions.
The lead barrister is charging £220 per hour.
Remember those posts on how poorly paid were our barristers !
It’s a lawyers orgy .

True - but hopefully they will note specific recommendations for next time as well…..

I think i heard them agree that you should lock down early and hard to stop the spread.
Unless, of course, you have a top notch test and trace system like South Korea.
Boris locked down late and our Test and Trace was not the best.
Result … 220,000 uk citizens dead.

No two pandemics are the same though. There have been two major pandemics in our lifetime. Covid-19 and HIV/AIDS. Both are completely different viruses with different causes and necessary responses. The next pandemic is likely to be different again. Perhaps caused by an antibiotic resistant bacteria, or a parasite. We just don’t know. But it’s highly likely that the rules and response for the next pandemic will be very different.

True but what we learn from can help with a different one ….. ‘Decades of foundational research and investments into HIV biology, though yet to yield an authorized or approved vaccine for HIV/AIDS, have now paid dividends in the rapid development of safe and effective SARS-CoV-2 vaccines. This latter success presents an opportunity for feedback on improved pathways for development of safe and efficacious vaccines against HIV and other pathogens’.

Charge her for the Abba party.
Albeit she is not elected, of course.

I do wonder why that has not happened…?
Its almost like the police do not want to investigate it for some reason.

‘the so-called “Abba party” held in Johnson’s flat above 11 Downing Street on 13 November 2020, a gathering that included food, alcohol and music allegedly so loud that it could be heard downstairs in the press office. Johnson, the then prime minister, is known to have been present for at least part of the evening.

The gathering was not investigated by Sue Gray, the senior civil servant who examined reports of rule breaking during Covid lockdowns. Crucially, however, it is now central to the privileges probe because Johnson was asked about it directly in the House of Commons. His response, which he continues to stand by, was that “whatever happened, the guidance was followed and the rules were followed at all times”.

Yes the populist right wing want that Rishi to crash and burn badly, and then for a Johnson and Farage ticket for the election after next.

I think the deaths of some 220,000 uk citizens from covid, plus the still unfolding economic damage of Brexit will just about guarantee that these uber English nationalist cannot win.

Well maybe ….🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

One of the World's most successful vaccine rollout saved an estimated 500,000 to 1,000,000 lives in the UK.

Of course the government could have closed everything down a month earlier with all the extra billions that would have cost , not to mention the impact on education, mental health, even more cancelled operations and millions of job losses.

Not really.

The disastrous herd immunity approach had to be changed in flight. We are seeing this failure in long covid cases, of course.

Also the proportion of the total population who have been vaccinated to a sufficient degree to reduce the virulence of the pandemic (“fully vaccinated”). On this measure, the UK does far less well. By mid-December 2021, 68.6% of people in the UK had been “fully vaccinated” – a figure actually lower than all the other western European countries. 🤡🇬🇧

Everything Johnson touches turns to shite. Everything.

We could have closed our borders /introduced restrictions earlier and that would have bought us time.
The government approach was shambolic and lurched from one direction to the other, ignoring the recommendations following the Op Cygnus exercise was another act of gross incompetence, but that is down to Hunt and pre Boris.

Cheltenham Race Meeting March 2020 should have been the time that lovable scallywag Bojo should have said no , cancel it , thousands then massed in enclosed spaces , loss of life affecting many people then followed , think some Premier League football carried on too .

There was a serious and fatal issue bubbling up , yet nobody will stop these events , why .

Sunak in his answers seems to be ahead of the questions , well drilled in his replies , good PR beforehand .
Also thought he was having a easy ride in the questioning .

Even the scientist could not agree what was the best approach based on non existant evidence.

Of course with the benefit of tunnel vision hindsight restrictions could have be brought in earlier.

Not really ….

It was very clearly stated at the time.

‘Matt Hancock and his officials bombarded Downing Street with early warnings about Covid-19 but were treated with ridicule and contempt, according to senior Whitehall figures, who believe that the former health secretary is unfairly being made a scapegoat by civil servants and scientists during the official inquiry into the pandemic.
Attempts by the Department of Health, in mid to late January 2020, to raise the alarm were dismissed out of hand by senior staff working for the then prime minister, Boris Johnson, because they believed Hancock was mainly seeking publicity and exaggerating the dangers, the insiders say.’

Johnson was told, but he got all the covid big calls wrong as we all know.

In medicine there is NO "one size fits all" answer. Whatwe lerned from covid needs to be remembered but it is unlikley the next pandemic will be so similar that it will help very much.

Research into vaccines is ongoing and new medicines are always a work in progress.

Experts are usually good but sometimes they can be very wrong and cause bigger problems.

Saint Sturgeon not coming across very well in the enquiry.
She has done Scotland a huge disservice when she was first minister. Scottish NHS collapsed, education system which was the best in the UK is now terrible. High deaths due to drug abuse in Europe. Life expectancy in Glasgow worse than some parts of Africa.

Finally the people of Scotland have realised the SNP single policy of independence has been a disaster for Scotland.
