Swansea City v Burnley : 2022/23 Matchday Thread : No red button ! 12:25 - Dec 31 with 12726 viewsNotLoyal

Top of the league Burnley with only two losses this season come in search of paradise at the swansea.com stadium. Swansea City play their second game at home in four days and are on a tremendous run of one win from one game since Friday. This game is not on sky sports and also not available on the red button. Not that many tickets left for home sales, be quick.

Subs didn't work today and poor second half. We said this game would be a benchmark for measuring progress, and it looks like one swallow (Watford) didn't make a summer.

Disagree John, thought we did okay and if we'd played as positively all season we'd be far higher up the table.

Ntcham did a lot of running but couldn't pass water, shouldn't have taken that shot either, still a lot of passing at the back for sake of passing, but I didn't expect anything from the game though and it was a decent enough performance against top of the table side.

Yet more dross at the back when no need. Benda has to clear the ball no matter what so why faff about in front of him. His confidence is slipping away .

Burnley were not in full gear mode and we played less badly of late.

I’m afraid we ve been so dire that now what we see is better . It doesn’t make us good though.

Hope

Decent performance, Burnley are a quality side. We will beat a lot of teams playing like that this year

We were pretty crap until we went 2-0 behind. Really raised our game after that but ultimately the yellow card for Allen reduced his effectiveness and the snap went out of our midfield. Prior to that he absolutely led by example.

Ultimately what cost us was our lack of effective width. Manning is ok from the dead ball but time and time again his crossing of a live ball is woeful. Lati seemed to be playing some sort of hybrid FB/WB role. Solid enough going backwards, but as we've seen, attacking isn't his game.

Piroe was also complete gash. Oba could have spent the game flicking V's at Russy and would probably have put more effort in anyway.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

This goal kick routine is doing my head in, Benda to Darling, who's 2 yards away then back to Benda who hopefully knocks it up field. The fly in the ointment is the opposition know its going to happen and aggressively close down causing Benda to make a hash of it more often than not.
Overall I'm far happier than I was a week ago though.

It’s up there with the most idiotic thing I’ve ever seen on a football pitch.

Poll: We all dream of a managerial team of Alan Tates?

They upped the press from the off of the second half and should have been the time to push the defenders up and squeeze the middle as we seems to compete better at the end of the first half.
Substitutions to protect valuable players given their work rate and success in the last game.
Changes didn't really help until later in the game playing more direct balls to feet to Congreve who was able to make space for others. A little more composure when we got in good positions.
Like to see the Cabango's pass which lead to free kick was it too heavy or was Darling caught unaware?
Overall another better performance along with the Watford game. Four at the back is the way forward let's the centerhalves attacking the ball more keeping us further up the pitch.

I wouldnt say we were crap Doc watching from high up in the stand it was an excellent first half of football with both sides literally playing the same way. Yes we made a few errors Manning missed a crucial tacle and i will reserve the GK errors untill i see ithem back again.

It was pretty obvious they had faster WB's but we handled them well and hauled ourselves back into it. As soon as Joe and Jay went off we couldnt win back posession as easily and suffered. Dont know what is going on with Piroe but he is lucky to have stayed on, looked way of the pace and his touch was woeful. Overall i thought we were worth a point.

Just seen the goals back and I've no idea what Benda was doing for the 2nd, a real howler unfortunately.

Well that was a case of a decent manager tweaking a few things at half time and a poor manager not having a clue what to do about it.

Dont understand? we played really well against the top of the table side who play exactley the same way. Ill grant you that they do it with a bit more pace but if i was Kompany it wouldnt be Obafemi id be after.

Decent enough first half performance unlucky to go two down from Burnley's only two shots. First an error with an under hit pass leaving the defender with no option but to concede a free kick in a dangerous position. Well struck free kick. Second goal we gave to forward to much space he hit it well Benda did not react quick enough unless it moved in the air. Pulled one back .

Second half Burnley played much higher up the field denying our defenders and midfielder time and space to play. Tried a few changes but Burnley controlled possession and slowed the game down.

No disgrace in our efforts today but Burnley are a class above this Division.

Disappointed with today's attendance less than 18,000 but not helped by ticket Web site showing very few available seats despite 4 empty blocks in North West and North East corners.

First half we pressed cautiously exposing their defence, second half they pressed and squeezed us into our half,. They were better at dragging our players to one side of the pitch and switching play to opposite side of the pitch causing mismatches. We needed in the second half to play longer to push them back, only at the end of the game did we tried and caused them the same problems we did in the first half.

It’s up there with the most idiotic thing I’ve ever seen on a football pitch.

It’s design is simply to get the “innovation” tag for the coaching team.

It serves absolutely no positive footballing purpose at all, it just carries huge risk.

Has it ever led to an offensive goal? Not remotely.

Has it ever led to us conceding a goal? Yes.

Scrap it.

Well seeing as we have failed to win in 9 of the last ten games it could be the quality of those other nine teams starting 11 and subs if your going down that route.

I didn't notice it as much 1st half, but due to where I sit, it was blindingly obvious during the 2nd. Is it something he decided to insist on during his half time talk or were we doing it all game.

No was a case of Burnley having a better bench than the players who were starting for us.

Be nice if we had a Harvey Barnes type of player to come off the bench

Nobody is as hapless as us moving the ball sideways across our six yard box.
