Exactly. Isn't it also a bank holiday weekend, when travellers would get home for a Saturday game? It's a pity the club persisted with this Bottomley*-inspired tenuous nonsense, but they have. *The Consultant still known as SLT

I've a ticket for the 4th Day of the India test at Headingley on the Saturday so personally I can't believe my luck with this decision. It's worked for other clubs in the past to play Friday night games (Tranmere I think?) so as to not compete with bigger clubs on the Saturday. Not that United and City are ever playing on a Saturday at 3pm anyway mind.

That is a spot of luck! Regular Friday night fixtures have worked for clubs, as you say. Having this change made as a one-off is a pretty big call by the club, and there's bound to be people (exiles, for instance) who're either hugely inconvenienced by it or unable to make it. Plus, Colchester fans, whose numbers (and money) will likely be reduced As i say, its a big occasion and i hope its a success. It would've been without the change

That Colchester game! I’m sure the crowd was given as just over 1,000 But it felt like a lot less on the night

Colchester home game on 11:01 - Aug 4 with 2769 views | 49thseason | Talking to a neighbour yesterday, he is a City ST holder but has deferred his ticket for this season due to covid fears (and the £750 tied up in it). Says he will come up to Spotland occasionally and thinks Premiership clubs should have done more pre-season to play friendlies against clubs like Dale. Maybe there are more like him that could be enticed to watch on a Friday night and Saturdays too if the Premiership habit gets broken a little.
