Anyone had Heart surgery on 22:14 - Aug 14 with 1780 views | DavieQPR | Had heart attack 3 years ago. Four stents, Scar tissue, kidney damage. Second one 6 months later. Still got leaky valve. I was in Barts.First time I had been in a hospital in my life, not even born in one. The thing that got me was other patients taking off their monitors at night to go to the fire escape for a fag. Take it easy you will get better just a bit slower ( or is that 'cos I'm 70). Modern medicine can work miracles. Keep your chin up.

Thanks Staff in the hospital were great, care was great at St Thomas's just been a bit unlucky I can't say the same for my own Doc or practice, been fecking useless, won't even give me an appointment for a month, Computer says no, if I want an on the day appointment Que up at 7.30 am outside the practice. Thankfully the hospital sorted out getting me a distinct nurse after the practice said they could not. [Post edited 14 Aug 2019 23:10]

Patient waiting times to see a GP are increasing: NHS patients waiting over two weeks to see a GP, shows survey https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/aug/12/nhs-patients-waiting-over-two-we Branson has taken over my local practice on the quiet and the main GP who was there for years has left.

Which of course has nothing to do with freedom of movement and the huge increase in our population in recent years. My last non urgent appointment had me waiting 4 weeks here in Plaistow and when I had it it turns out it was urgent!

Freedom of movement for EU workers has had immense benefits for the NHS - 65,000 EU workers as of last month, one-third of whom work in London. 9.5% of doctors and 6.4% of nurses are EU nationals. Sadly, some of them are choosing to go home now, because of the uncertainties of Brexit.
Anyone had Heart surgery on 18:58 - Aug 16 with 1497 views | dachiltern | Not myself but a numbers of friends and colleagues have over the years. I’m with the nurse on this one, modern surgery is excellent, 4 spine ops over 30 years and the last two were excellent, plus bowel cancer with surgery, in and out in three days and as grumpy as ever. There is only one thing to be wary of and that’s the food. Good luck fella.

I'd suggest this is actually due to the demographics of an aging population, which is what the UK and most of the Western world now face. Although the UK population has indeed increased, but a key part to this is that we have seen a significant increase in those who are over 65 as part of our population in past 10 years (up 15% in that time according to the ONS) and will be over 20% of the population by 2027.. We also have a significant increase in average lifespan over that time as well. So we have more older people who are living longer and these traditionally are one of the highest demographic groups of users of UK health services. Sorry to be an anorak, but its quite an interesting subject when you get into it.

Anyone had Heart surgery on 15:05 - Aug 17 with 1398 views | 2Thomas2Bowles | This will no doubt pizz some off. I think there should be an NHS insurance policy requirement for all none citizens that come to work/settle in the UK for the first 5 years. In just about every country in the world, you have to have health insurance. We know that the NHS is abused by visitors, getting treatment they are not entitled to for free and then not paying. From my NI and tax over many years (as have most done ) helped pay for my heart surgery, I don't think it unreasonable for those that have paid little or nothing to have some kind of health insurance if they want treatment by the NHS. *going to be rushed by the** liberals any moment now....* ** The middle-class ones with Bupa that want immigrants to serve them coffee.
