Matt Done scores again on 09:39 - Feb 18 by ColDale | Tutte never played last season against us. (not that we'd be particularly worried about him). I know that was a Hill and Flicker thing, but gut feeling says that Clough will honour the same agreement with Hill. Could be wrong. |
Hill and Flicker are best mates though and that would have been a gentleman's agreement between them both - he was a free transfer. Sheff Utd have paid (500k rumoured)for Done and still could get automatic promotion. Besides we need them to go up to get more cash in the pot so best he scores to help their cause. Matt Done scores again on 09:36 - Feb 18 by lurker | I wouldn't. He is in scorching form and any "gentleman's agreement" will be negated by Nigel Clough being a prize nob! Unless such an agreement was made at a higher level I can't see any way he won't line up against us |
If Col's right, it wouldn't be a 'gentleman's agreement'; it would be included as part of the transfer deal. [Post edited 18 Feb 2015 10:38]

Matt Done scores again on 09:37 - Feb 18 by dingdangblue | Why? Alf did, Lambert did and both scored goals to help beat us. They are going for promotion and he's just won them their last 2 games. [Post edited 18 Feb 2015 10:01]

We played at Bristol Rovers the week after we'd sold Lambert and he didn't play in that game as part of the deal, even though he had appeared for them the previous Saturday. I know he played and scored at Spotland the following January and ALF appeared against us twice for Rotherham, but every deal seems to be different, so it will be interesting to see what happens on Tuesday.

So anyone who has a contrary opinion to yours is a 'deluded mong'?

Matt Done scores again on 12:10 - Feb 18 with 1945 views | JimmyRustler | With regards to the loyalty thing, (and putting aside the fact that he's started like a house on for for a moment) there is an argument, just like there is with Keith Hill, that Done has seen that the grass isn't always greener on the other side and that it's sometimes better to be at a club that's familiar to you and where you know you're loved. Where was Matt Done before we signed him first time? I'm aware that Palace were allegedly after him for a brief spell but after Barnsley, he was once again almost on the scrap heap before we snapped him up and ONCE AGAIN rejuvenated his career. If Hill was approached by a Championship bottom dweller (as Barnsley were) and then fooked off to double his wages, what would be the consensus? Hill and Rochdale is a good fit as is Hill and Done and Rochdale and Done. Glad he's doing well though, seems like a nice lad. Thing is, it's incredibly important that he hit the ground running or else he could have easily been plucking splinters out of his arse and tbh he may still have to get used to doing that if he dries up - those massive clubs over the border are fickle bunch at the best of times.

Its the stuff of dreams for Matt Done. 3 games, 3 wins, 4 goals and scoring the winning goals away at Bristol City and Notts County. If they had bought Aguero for 50 million they might have expected a start like that! Brilliant move for him - he is flying at the minute. Nigel Clough must think all his Christmas's have come at once.

I think the potential Palace move had a big impact on this. In a very short space of time, he went from Palace wanting to sign him for £625,000 to being out of work. Missing out on that move robbed him of the chance of being set for life, and will no doubt have influenced his desire to leave.

Hill probably feels a bit of guilt about that also. Pretty sure he blocked the move having just sold Vaz Te and lost Butterfield and Drinkwater. Whitey may elaborate if he reads this.

Regarding a couple of things... * there is no agreement in place that he cant play on Tuesday, he will play if fit & selected. * regarding the fee, a board member has told me the fee was less than 400k, he didn't mentionany add ons for promotion/appearances etc

Funny how many people know board members and how these board members are quite casual about revealing undisclosed fees.

If that's the case, that board member has disclosed an undisclosed fee. Name the board member or never return. Tedious.

Thanks for posting but I would be astounded if your 2nd statement is true given Done's contract situation and our board being obsessed with add ons

To be fair, a board member who has bought a player isn't going to make out his club have paid over the odds.

No, thanks for coming on here. Your input is very interesting and I'm pleased Done is doing so well, especially after reading some of the derogatory comments on one of your boards when you signed him. However, what you've been told may or may not be the truth; that's the point we're trying to make. Given the transfer was 'undisclosed', I'd take things with a pinch of salt as some directors are very good at telling their audiences what they want them to hear.

That's a fair point. Obviously he's an SUFC director and I'm not going to disclose his name as you would imagine. The reason, as stated our transfers are are undisclosed is so future selling clubs don't over inflate their fee. I asked him about the 1.5 mill banded about on here on deadline day and was told less than 400k. He as no reason to play down a fee as we're very critical for not spending a lot!! A further example is when we signed John Brayford the fee was reported at 1.5 mill, he actually told me this was wrong and we paid more

Thanks for the information Ben but it means bugger all really. Anyway, without trying to inflate or deflate any figures what sort of away following are you expecting to bring over the hill next Tuesday? Just to confirm, you've got a good un with Matt Done and just like you i will be very surprised if he doesn't play in our upcoming fixture.
