On the platform, roundabout where the covered waiting area is now

What was the Bus station pub called, run by Mike Ratu for a time?
Just missed paying in pre decimal coinage in pubs, but remember 2d bus fares.
12 pence a pint if I recall correctly, and my Part time job at Tesco paid for some good weekends.
Anyone remember the Oldham Rd Charity Beer race?

Prinny royal was a fantastic pub, Monday night pool matches had to be seen to believe .

Not sure how old you are but did you ever play pool in the Regent with the oldest land lord ever. Looked like farther Christmas. Also the Lesbian team from the white lion. Used to go to their lock inns as it was also a thwarts pub ( I played for Sawyers arms). Great nights . Agree Prinny Royal was good ( Did they do Chip butties after the game

Been out of Rochdale 15 years. Is the Monday night pool league still going

Travellers Rest. The original licensee was Tony Livesey who had the Entwistle Arms.

It's on the first list. Closed 1973.

It was lost under the new development of the Police Station and dual carriageway.

I'm reliably informed the Red Rose is still operating...as a swingers' place! Clue's in the new name (which escapes me), I believe.

The Red Rose has been refurbished as a 'private members' only premises. There is an outdoor balcony overlooking Oldham Road (?). all doors can only be opened from inside and there are no windows.

There is a large banner of a scantily clad woman adorning the balcony.

Draw your own conclusions from that, but I doubt if you can nip in for a half pint of mild before carrying on to the bus stop. !

There are pubs in the wider Rochdale areas or Milnrow and Newhey etc that have also closed.

As your sad but splendid post-1980 listing said "LICENSED PREMISES CLOSED SINCE 1980" I thought the railway bar and the Hamer could have come under that banner.

The ' Grosvenor Arms' question came up in conversation at my local recently - people wondering what it's official title was, which you have confirmed. Remember Tony Gourley running it as well.

On a slightly different tack. Places I saw good live bands in the 1960's-

The Carlton
Lea Hall
The Pyramid.
The Cubi-Klub
The Lower Chambers
Turners Dance Club
The Champness Hall
The Fire Station
The Post Office Club
The British Legion Club

I feel sorry for kids today, all they're got is hanging around street corners getting pissed.

I remember loads of those pubs and I have never even lived in Rochdale! It is a national tragedy of epic proportions what's happened to our British boozers! There must be at least twenty to add to the list in Middleton and Langley too! Didn't spot the Woolpack on Drake Street? My Grandma ( R.I.P.) bought me a half of bitter in there when I was about 13! God knows how! I looked younger than that even! Got in a punch_up in the Travellers Rest with some Biffos prior to the FA cup game in 1979 (?) and got a massive rip in my strides! I spent the rest of the night making sure I didn't flash my town halls to the good people of your borough!

Is it Nathan Stanton?

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?
