Comparison with Wolves! 23:10 - Feb 4 with 1983 viewsburryportboy

I'm from W'ton but moved down here last year and have a ST at Swansea.
Hearing the news tonight and reading all about it I'm getting ominous feelings of deja vu.
Wolves sacked McCarthy in early February (8th?) in their 3rd Prem season with 14 games to go after a bad performance, following a generally poor season. With no replacement lined up the Chairman ended up appointing Terry Connor (MM's assistant) who did not win any of his last 14 games and Wolves were relegated.
What's even more scary is that I see Glen Hoddle is a candidate for the job. He was at Wolves before MM and he presided over 2 of the most boring seasons ever suffered by Wolves supporters - if you thought ML played tippy-tappy sideways football he learnt it all from GH!
This decision can go one of 2 ways - the new manager energises the players who rise to the challenge or like Wolves, the whole thing is a total FU and the team goes down. Let's hope and pray the former happens.

I'm sure Wolves were beyond help by that point anyway?

They were actually playing some pretty good stuff in spells and had some grit, which is one thing we lack. I don't think the comparison is unreasonable. We COULD go the same way. Massive gamble with Garry.

Wolves were already in the bottom 3 by this point.

Thank you, goodnight and bollocks

We are not far off, it's so close at the bottom. Lose to Cardiff and we could be anyway.

Well if we're in the relegation zone Saturday I can guarantee you Cardiff will be as well.

IMO, our squad are quite capable of playing a higher standard that they are at present, and think other teams have sussed out how to beat us.

Hope there is enough fight in them to stay up this season and we see the likes of Pozuelo, Amat. Shelvey and Bony etc. show their potential and excel.

Wolves were in a similar position to Swansea when they sacked MM. Always a dodgy decision to sack the manager after the window closes and with so few games left. Imo Swansea are too good to go down but better teams than Swansea have dropped through the trap-door so don't get complacent . A good win on Saturday will be a massive boost and we have several games against many of the lower teams. Keep the faith!
