Why do people deny mass killings?
at 22:43 24 Oct 2024

I learned long ago I could never understand or explain everything. The only thing I know as I get older is how much I don’t know.

So I tend to not always need a reason for why bad things happen, they often just do, and even more often they’re informed by the history that came before them.

Not quite chaos theory, more cause and effect, but that cause and effect is so complicated that unravelling it is nigh on impossible.

Take the old favourite 9/11, you could point to the start of that as being the CIA backing the mujahdien with weapons and training, but that would over simplify the Cold War and religious and historical threads of the Middle East.

The thing that makes most conspiracies work is there’s always a grain of truth in them, again with 9/11 globalisation definitely played a part, but not in the way the conspiracy says, in the far more boring way that it was part of social and economic upheaval in the world, and contributed to various wars.

So yeah the simple answer is a conspiracy, the reality is just that the world is complex and all actions and have a reaction somewhere

I've always had a fairly simplistic view of conspiracy theories.

They exist, and people believe them, because facing the reality that the world is complicated, random and unfair is hard for many people. So find a conspiracy to explain the reality of nature and humanity is far easier and more comforting.

I doubt we'll ever change that, and deprogramming those who've fallen down the rabbit hole is really, really hard.

A Rough Guide To Manchester City
at 13:13 24 Oct 2024

Gutted i can't make this game.

Not because of the football which is bound to be painfully f*cking sh*t, but because Manchester is the best city in the north for pubs and nightlife, and arguably in the top two in the country in general

Heard from a slightly less reliable than normal source the other day that Martin was genuinely surprised not to be sacked after the Arsenal game.

If he himself is surprised then what hope do we have

A collectivised st Mary’s?

I mean they’ve already built the gulags outside and martin has his reeducation courses.

Plus the red army banners too.

Maybe the truth is finally coming out

His appeal is to the stats nerds and students, not young or old.

My mates i go with who are younger find his brand of JFK football just as dull as the older lot, and his arrogance and stubbornness annoys them just as much as it does us

I think you're missing the point Pat

1. He has a beard
2. He gets us to play football THE RIGHT WAY
3. He sounds like a nice bloke
4. Being a Buddhist means he can never die so he can be here forever
5. Lucy Pinder has great tits
6. We are top of the passing stats league and everyone knows that's the one that maters

Frannie had a pretty good record of netting in his own net, including the diving header to the bottom corner for Oldham

Wolves away sold out
at 12:40 16 Oct 2024

To be fair in the current scheme of things Wolves is a big game so you'd expect it to have sold out pretty quick.

On the flip side it's probably one of, if not the, worst away days in the country.

Leicester beat us comfortably in both games last season, they've obviously started badly and don't have that confidence but i can't really see us getting anything more than a draw, and have a feeling it'll be a 2-1 or 3-1 loss.

The current pissing around at the back style is utterly suicidal and it's going to damage the confidence of the team.

A couple of early mistakes and heads will drop, and if i was the Leicester manager i'd be telling their attack to bully our defence early and force that.

Le tiss’ personal views are completely f*cking insane but they are his views and he’s entitled to them.

He is also one of, if not the, greatest player our club has ever produced. He was also loyal when he had absolutely no need to be.

Assuming his involvement is about football and nothing else then I doesn’t make a difference what he believes privately.

Did Saturday's game buy Russell Martin time?
at 16:45 7 Oct 2024

Personally i'd much rather have Moyes over Potter what we need right now is someone to stop us leaking goals and teach the players to stop being scared to get the ball into the box.

We are obviously the worst team in the league, but even then we should have a chance of staying up if we did the simple things well.

At the moment we're responsible for our own collapse, p*ssing around at the back which gives away goals, and over complicating attacks so we're too slow to counter.

I'm not saying we should be playing long ball into the box to a big man (though sometimes that wouldn't be the worst idea) but we do need to be quicker going forward and stop putting ourselves under pressure

True but he'd been actively sounding out new managers long before that, and the reality was Adkins was on borrowed time (even if many didn't know it)

I'd like to think SR are doing the same thing right now but i really struggle to believe they are.

I don't see a world where martin turns it around to be honest and my thinking is every game he's in charge is lost time.

As much as i hated the mad midget (both for over spending and his impact on personal friends) i'm sure he wouldn't have twiddled his thumbs on this one and Martin would've been booted already.

We need a bit more ruthlessness from the club, cut our losses and try and rescue the season

Those sorts of non compete clauses are pretty standard across industries at top levels. Interestingly the US sort of just banned them as being anti competitive

Because i've got more of a life than just football and will chat to them when i see them next down the pub, it's interesting to find stuff out but ultimately makes little to no difference to my life so i'm not exactly going to go chasing after it.
