Tymon runs down the left were largely ignored by Paterson and that was why I preferred Paterson on the right side of the middle of midfield and Cooper on the left, Cooperj often covered for Manning well the pre ious year, with Eom in the team wonder how to partnerships on the left will develop

Žan Vipotnik : Agent urges caution but there is a link to the Swans
at 11:31 2 Aug 2024

Lowe did some valuable tracking back last season using his pace to counter opposition surges through the middle hopefully Franco can negate the need for forwards to track back so much as we know both Grimes and Fulton struggle once a pacey player has got past them, Downes ended up from looking like a good prospect going forward then spent a lot of his time covering although in his time here Fulton was sidelined initially in Martin's first year.
Be interesting to see who Williams uses in the midfield during the 90 minutes, Fulton had been used quite often as a defensive player defending leads, useful given his height to defend set pieces.

You still need other players getting in the box to support his movement rather than having two or three players sitting on the edge of the box who are not pulling defenders about to create space.
Must remembering you have to have enough players with pace to counter any break away, right players in the right positions so we have the right balance to support our forwards while keeping our defence solid

Difference of opinion I'm afraid about players on loan most for only 6 mobths or less and club in different circumstances to Robbins Coventry who are still in the sane league as us. Will agree about Cooper and parachute payments, Guehi was 100 percent needed after the loss of VdH but the misuse of good player who were ours because loan players were drafted in.

Demblė caused our full backs problems and scored against us in our home game, Parker in that game played against a good pro of a full back won a number of corners, one we scored from and in the second half Parker changed tactic and cut inside and again we scored from one of his crosses, we conceded late in that game as players were sucked in towards Demble with the ball ( I seem to remember?)releasing Jordan James in too much space.
Would be happy to add Demble to our attack.

Pre season prediction on final League position
at 07:53 1 Aug 2024

Hope for a top 10, dream of a top 6 going onto win promotion, predict and expect mid table, hope I'm.proven right, really don't want a bottom half dog fight and dread the thought of the drop.

But hey ho it's football and we have very little control of the owners dreams all we can do is pray at the alter 🏟 come 🌨 or ☀️ and pay our 💰 or not.

Fully aware Gallaghers 6 month stint with us was before Gibbs-White two are three game stint the following year so neither on them were world class at the time and say the only one who made an impact eventually was Guehi in his second season with us.
Brewster again was with us only Six months or so again world class and how much impact.
VdH was in his last year with us and in his last few games you could see he had dialled back his commitment levels didn't he get injured towards the back end of that season.
Woodman world class? Not exactly pulling up trees at the moment a good goalie yes but.

The following season Guehi with world class players Gibbs-White don't think so as Gibbs-White only played a handful of games, injured and was gone by January, Gyokeres three months gone by Jamuary. Ayew struggled to make an impact on his return to the club and was unable to keep us in the Premier league, still an excellent player bit in the end it was Connor Roberts who ended up having to help his game as well as Naughton's with his workrate in both attack and defence.
Grimes has been covered and it is all about players strengths and weaknesses and how they fit into a team.

The last Straw for Cooper was he knew he would struggle with the squad he would have at the end of the season and he left, bit of a shame because the team ended up with the quality up front and the midfield he was looking for.

Shouldn't we have a look first, the small amount of first team game time isn't enough to see what he can do at this level but he scores goals.

Gyokeres said he didn't want to stay at Swansea because he wasn't getting game time in the short 3 months he was here being back up to Lowe and Ayew so he asked his parent club to recall him, he was also aware of two new loans coming in from America, so wanted out, Cooper wasn't happy to lose him as he didn't want the Americans given they had no experience of the EFL Spin it anyway you want.

Maybe the final straw for Cooper was the lack of replacement for Gibbs-White who had the unfortunate injury and the loss of Gallagher being replaced by Hourihane who wasn't the needed dynamic box to box midfielder to compliment Grimes and Fulton.
The club got the type of player Cooper wanted in Downes but Cooper, gone.

Is it a case of the club staff getting the players that managers wanted but at times the owners not being prepared to stump up the cash, as was the case with Clucas the deal wasn't going to go through unless to make up the cash short fall we added our only left back Kinsley.Such a poor deal.

Deals not being made because of cash issues but poor descions are being made.

Are managers feeling they are not being supported which in Martin's case he needed to prove himself after an abysmal run improving later in the season but not enough to push the club to extend his contract which they might have done a couple of months into the new season if results were positive but Martin was not prepared to take that chance, gone.
Perhaps Cooper and Martin knew they were going to lose vital players and so couldn't build the teams they wanted within their contracts time scales, Gone.

William's may be able to build on what he has but the owners need to ensure he can in the time span he is here, first season(excluding his brief tenure last season) to make the foundation and next season push on to promotion. Quite a big ask given that previous promotions have been build on the gradual rise through the leagues with the teams quality being improved over a number of years.

Would take a Danny Graham type CF at the drop of a hat, surely there must be a couple of good players in the lower leagues who would jump at the chance to play for the Swansea whose contract is at a pivotal point in the terms of that contract, a case of would or could Swansea put up the funds needed.

I'm not suggesting getting the ball in willy nilly which some of our crosses last year seemed to be last season but then again if a winger is getting the ball in you would expect forwards not the singular to try and get across defenders or in behind you cannot expect a lone striker to terrorise defenders, unless you are Toney or Halland and even then their team mates benefit off the problems caused It is those problem, we are not causing by not getting enough players and the ball into dangerous areas quick enough.

A word of caution though you have to make sure that you have cover in place at all times we have seen us caught out so many times over the last three seasons and the friendlies so far which has shown we are not defensively strong, with no cover for mistakes because of players not quick enough to help their team mates or so intent on attacking they forget their defensive duties and over commit which is a worry so close to the seasons start.

Swansea City 1 FK Vardar 1 : Report, Stats, Teams and more
at 10:51 29 Jul 2024

How many times have we seen forwards making runs that aren't spotted players taking too long to get the ball forward also when we get on the edge of the box, shaping up to shoot then as defenders come out to block the shot the easy pass is made to the side but the closing down player usually has come from just inside the box so there are spaces where they have come from so if the passes are quick the space can be opened up but not with slow passing . OK in a densely packed defence it can be hard to find those spaces but unless we get the balls quicker into the box, be it driving with the ball or passes nothing will open up, defenders have very little room for errors. We have seen both Franco and Kuharevich benefited by the problems cause by getting the ball in the box but you have to support the forward or forwards. So is the problem the forwards or the players around them?
Piroe and Ntcham even Paterson were very good at creating chances in very little space but they needed players around them to create that space and at times.
Lowe was a different play to when he was here the first time his hold up play for Key's goal was excellent and his defensive work was excellent and yet he kept on getting caught off sidewas that his bad play or not getting the ball to him first time.
Hope we get a quick , taller, strong centre foward but it is a while before the end of the transfer window closes and Williams will know his team but it is a squad game now especially with five Subs let's hope we don't get the last minute outgoings of players coupled with the injuries that caused chaos last year.Hope Williams has readied enough youngsters to step up to have an impact when needed.

Quite nice to see the ball being played inside the full back to what seemed like good effect on the highlights, didn't get to see the game but it seemed to be a tactic which we have not seen used into a crowd box for quite some time.

Eom was considered fully fit at the time of arrival to the club, didn't the season just end for him? William's has said Franco wasn't fully up to speed. yet.

Unless I'm mistaken both Allen and Ronald haven't seen any game time since the Swindon game, is their cause for concern with Ronald, both Abdulai and Parker have been getting lots of game time?

Didn't Franco get game time with William's "First Choice" agaibst Köln, coming on and getting 25 minutes at the end of that game in which Cooper came off, maybe the one to make way for Franco for the first game of the season, the other one to go off in that game was Parker but coming back after a serious injury and the role he plays you would expect him to be used carefully.
Not forgetting our new goalie

Against FK Vadar it was about resting the first choice but getting minutes under their belt for Franco who will be first choice and Abdulai, who you would expect to be in getting a lot of game time this season as back up on the wingers or full back even starting when the heavy fixtures arrive.

So I think we have seen Franco in the more or less expected first team and he could start on Saturday if Williams thinks he is ready.

So I think the team you will see at the at the start of the season

The selection for today may makes sense resting the majority of players that played against Koln giving playing time to fringe players to give them game time , yes what you consider to be a weak team was selected but Franco needed game time and it gave a chance for other players to prove their worth, Franco not listed in second half team but scores a goal?

It was more important to give him game time than worry about the set up being used for the first game of the season, similarly is it better the like of Ronald, Allen, Ginnelly are not rush back into the first team at the start of the season so they can be available for more of the rest of the season.

Haven't seen today's game so can't judge Eom's and Franco's contributions but happy to wait and see how we preform at the start of the season.

More players needed? Maybe but we don't know what is going on behind the scenes but would any new signings be consider fit or able enough to slot into the first team.

Cannot judge the team or the management until the season starts.
