Why do people deny mass killings?

I'm sorry Jelly but your emotional wobbling is too much for me.

You made your choice and it didn't work out. Them's the breaks my gelatin friend.

We don't believe in large scale conspiracies because, as franniesTache succinctly explained, we know that the world is too complicated, random and unfair for a conspiracy of any more than let's say a dozen people to survive contact with the world for more than a few days.

So it is pretty binary. You either believe in impossible things or you don't.

Why were they 'coercing' young people?

Were they intending to kill them, was that the plan?

Should you take him on?

It's a definitely 'no' from me.

Steer clear of nutty clients is my advice. It's only a matter of time before they turn on you. I'm sure you're not that desperate for the work!

There's one interesting thing with conspiracy theorists...

They all think that we are gullible fools for believing what 'the man' tells us to believe.

And we all think that they are gullible fools for believing the conspiratorial nonsense.

In the words of Ralph Brown/Danny: "Why trust one drug and not the other? That's politics, innit?"

Every individual is different, so understanding motives is not easy but there is some interesting stuff here:

https://www.apa.org/news/podcasts/speaking-of-psychology/conspiracy-theories

A bit like those with fundamentalist religious believes, there is also an element of conspiracy theory thinking that always has an answer to any counter-evidence. Pure Popperian unfalsifiability. Jelly, for example, will dismiss those talking in the link as undoubtedly in the pay of the lizards.

Southampton Board Said To Have Set Deadline Day For Russell Martin
at 12:14 22 Oct 2024

I still cannot believe that we conceded the same last minute goal two games running.

After Ipswich, that should never have happened for (at least) the rest of the season.

For it to happen again in the very next game is mind-boggling.

Everyone in the ground was thinking about what happened the last time, so how come the players weren't.

Downes was captain. He has to identify the threat.

There's no point swapping a manager for someone worse but this shouldn't drive the decision to stick or twist with the current manager.

Rarely (if ever) is a current manager sacked just because the board think that there is someone better out there. If performances are OK, they are going to stick with what they have. That's just how it works.

So it should work the other way too, if a manager is failing, the fact that someone else might fail too shouldn't be reason to stick with the failing manager. He should be sacked and then it's up to the board to find someone better.

Granted this board has a poor recent track record of appointments but I don't think that matters. We can only hope that they will do better next time and if they don't then the new one can go too.

'messing with' doesn't have to equate to a foul in this context. And I nearly typed 'interfering with' the keeper but that has other connotations.

The trouble with your proposed solution, pragmatic though it is, is that it would mean that goals would be chalked off because of offside players who were nowhere near the play. And ffs VAR is getting enough kicks out of ruling out good gaols as it is.

In this case, I'd say if the linesman flags it's not a goal and if he doesn't it is. I know it's a crazy idea and God knows how it would work in practice...oh wait...

Commitment and confidence have gone missing

Derby won 1 game that season. Game 6 at home to Newcastle.

They got 5 points from their first 8 games. And 6 draws and 6 points from their remaining 30.

By this stage of the season then, their only win was behind them!

That even Nathan Jones got one win in his 8 PL games.

Even a stopped clock gives the right time twice a day.

At some point, even for Sports Republic, the results will force RM's departure.

He was in an offside position when the header was made and about a second earlier he was messing with the keeper.

And the flag went up, which wasn't clearly and obviously wrong. Had the goal been chalked off, Boring would have been disappointed but couldn't have complained (too much).

The problem with the Boring FC equaliser was the linesman flagged and VAR overruled him.

It wasn't clearly and obviously a wrong decision because clearly Silva was in an offside position and clearly he was trying to mess with the keeper and did distract him.

The fact that he distracted him maybe a second before the header, does not make the linesman's decision clearly wrong.

And, yes, in our game VAR just unbelievably inconsistent, as ever.

VAR has gone beyond ruining the game. It's ruined the game.

Football without VAR is a million times better than with it.

Desperate Tories - or tactical masterstroke?
at 22:08 20 Oct 2024

The government could reach a deal with France/the EU to return all people arriving on small boats to France on the day of arrival.

And, of course, if that happened, the economic model for the small boats would end immediately, as would the cross-channel traffic. Problem solved.

Why doesn't it happen?

Because to reach such an agreement the UK would need to agree with the EU to take (by safer routes) a share of all the people successfully claiming asylum in the EU. And because the EU received far far more asylum seekers than does the UK, the share we would need to take would far exceed the numbers arriving by boats.

So we can stop the boats, but only by taking *more* asylum seekers safely.

And politically that it is suicide at the moment, so it won't happen.

And that tbf is what would prob stop anyone decent accepting the job.

But the points and the opportunity is there if anyone feels that they they can get more out of these players.

The only way now to find out whether the problem is the players or the manager is to let an experienced PL manager see if he can get a better tune of them.

Still plenty of games left.

RM has had a fair crack of the whip. He's not been lucky, but 1 point from 24 speaks for itself.

A good appointment. At least it shows a bit of ambition from the FA for once.

Wonder how many decades before an English manager takes a German team to a major trophy !?

Is Carsley The Man For England ?
at 13:26 15 Oct 2024

After the Greece result, he can't be appointed.

Which is good, because he is neither good enough, nor experienced enough a manager to lead the national team.

The FA are going have to break the habit of a lifetime and appoint someone talented and successful.

Wouldn't it be nice if an England manager could actually use the considerable talent available to fashion a team that is even better than the sum of its parts. We so often get so much less.
