No, that's wrong. All farming uses pestecides regardless if it's for crop or fruit production, plus nitrate feeding to maximise production. These chemicals are not only destroying insect life but also affect the water table.
Regarding organic farming...highly commendable but as the NFU and Organic Society agree that these methods cannot feed the UK population as it stands never mind if the majority decide to convert to veganism. I am fortunate in that I always try to buy organic, but it is undeniably more costly and not everyone can afford to.

Aye, i worded it wrong.
I meant, the high intensity farming used to produce crops to feed our livestock, far outweighs the same for human consumption.
If we didn't raise so many cattle, we would use far less pesticides.

SOme very interesting references:

Movies/documentaries:

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret:
Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret tackles the tough topic of environmental conservation through a new angle. Instead of focusing on things like deforestation or a lack of recycling, filmmaker Kip Andersen argues that animal agricultural practices are the primary cause of environmental issues.
Cowspiracy is able to make a compelling case that a great deal of modern environmental damage comes from the unsustainable practices of those supplying people with their meat, dairy, and eggs. It offers some hope in this time of global warming by suggesting that the burgeoning population of Earth can be fed in a more sustainable, plant-based manner.

Earthlings (narrated by Joaquin Phoenix):
EARTHLINGS is a 2005 American documentary film about humankind's total dependence on animals for economic purposes. Presented in five chapters (pets, food, clothing, entertainment and scientific research) the film is narrated by Joaquin Phoenix, featuring music by Moby, and was written, produced and directed by Shaun Monson.

Trace gases are 0.1% of the atmosphere, and carbon dioxide makes up 3-4% of these trace gases, so therefore CO2 is 3-4% of 0.1% Man contributes 3% of this and Britain produces 1% of this. So cows farting is really a non issue

Where is Mysore?

It's a tenuous link but I didn't like Portillo the politician. However I like Portillo the tv presenter. His train journey across India was a great watch.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?
