Saints Tracking Ian Harte ! Why ? Wednesday, 25th Aug 2010 19:23
Sky Sports are reporting that Saints are after Ian Harte from Carlisle, the big question is how many more defenders do we need.
Harte undoubtably would be a decent signing and was in the league 1 team last season, but surely this is scatter gun transfer dealing, put bluntly Saints already have three left backs, Harte's preferred position and four centre backs, all of whom are chasing a first team place, so why should we also want Harte it just doesnt make sense.
Surely Alan pardew transfer dealing would be called into question by the Chairman in the fact that he (the manager) signed a left back in the summer in Ryan Dickson, who now appears to be completely out of favour with barely a chance to prove himself
Saints supporters would rather see the team strengthened with a wide player or even a striker, the arrival of Guly in midfield has caused raised eyebrows in some quarters as to whether this is a Pardew signing, the manager seems to concentrate on the areas he knows well ie the Championship and league 1 when it comes to bringing in players and some would think it strange that he would be aware of a serie B player in Guly, likewise last season the arrival of the completely unknown Papa Waigo, Pardew's reluctance to play him suggesting that this was a transfer he didnt have the casting vote on.

Remember last season when AP had just taken over. His big complaint was that he had to spend too much time on the telephone talking transfers instead of coaching. This was the reason he stated that he would not object to a director of football to relieve him of thiat problem

Ian Harte could be a quality signing for us, do you not remember him playing against us last season? Or even bothered to look up his stats?

I agree with you about he could be a quality signing and im well aware of his stats, but you have missed the point, in the summer we have already signed a dedicated right and left back, plus a player who can play full back in Butterfield, we have another two left backs in Harding and Mills and we have four central defenders who could play in any other team in the division, its not about his quality its about a squad that will be top heavy in defenders but short in other areas, we should have bought Harte before we signed Dickson

remember its only speculation untill you hear it from the OS. Has Pardew said he is interested in Harte??......everyone seems well up for latching onto any negatives just lately

Six games in just four weeks, with four of them against sides also in the bottom six. By March we should be either well clear of danger, or even deeper in the sh*t. With Danny Cowley’s U’s still unbeaten, and looking stronger game on game, I’m sure it’ll be the former, but first we have to do our bit to consign Steve ‘Sour Grapes’ Cotterill’s FGR back to non-league. After our shambolic 5-0 defeat at New Lawn, nothing would give me greater pleasure, even if it meant losing one of my closest awaydays in the process.
